bought a used car from this dealership on June 7, 2023. They indicated at the time of sale that if there was a major problem that they would take care of it. The car broke down 2 weeks later, cannot be operated and the dealership is refusing to do anything at all.Customer Answer

Subject: Message from BBB.orgI just filed a complaint against Eastside Auto Sales in ******** **. Some additional details. The car was bought in ******** on June 7 for $3000 and broke down completely in ********** ** on June 21. We offered to ship the car back to ******** for this dealership to look at the car and the dealership will not consider any resolution. If they get the car back, they can fix at their cost and refund the money paid, less wear and tear. This is a sales contract for which the buyer did not get the benefit of their bargain.

This is simply not true. We conducted a third-party pre-purchase inspection ourselves, which did not include an inspection of the engine. Therefore, the pre-purchase inspection and the high miles have no relevance to the issue. What is relevant is that the error code timestamps prove that Eastside knew about the car's internal engine damage, and they still hid it from us. Eastside Auto Sales sells all their cars "as-is." They did not offer us any service options at all, much less one covering the powertrain. On the contrary, we asked them about warranty and service options because we were planning on going out of town and did not want the car to break down on us, but they declined our inquiry. RE: original complaint BBB-20059866 you closed my original complaint on the same day that I received it in my email. I am a consumer that can get nowhere with Eastside Auto. They have lied to you, ******* daughter ******. The owner has lied *********************. On 5/27/23 his reply to you was to take car to Honest 1 Auto at ************************************** phone # ********. This phone number he gave you isnt even for that honest 1 shop at that address. I called then and they said they didnt have car. I called Eastside Auto they didnt have car neither knew where it was at. I said I was going to report it stole and file a police report. They then found my car This was done, I was told it had to go to a dealer because of catalytic converter, then because hole in exhaust had to be fixed. When I had my daughter pick it up ********************* said "the car had to be driven 500 miles for system to be reset, that he drove it 50, ****************** suggested she take the car and drive 500 miles then take it to DEQ which they would pay for. ******* also said he would pay for a rental or $30.00 per day if we had to borrow a car. On 6/8/23 they took it to DEQ enclosed form showing that it still failed.on 6/12/23 My daughter agreed to put 500 miles on it at 200 miles the car started chugging and died on *********************. *********, ** ****** @6:00 calling Eastside Auto got us no where they got rude and said it was my fault, it was 1am in the morning I had the car towed on 6/14/ 2 days after picking it up. I still have no registration, no plates, NO DEQ, no tags or car that is drivable and running. I have not heard back from owner ********************* since when he called on 6/15/ and said to have it towed AGAIN to same shop for repair. 3 times and Honest 1 Auto claims they didn't do work to it that ********************* said. Now all my insurance papers, sales papers everything I had in my glove box is missing since picking it up. I am filing complaint with *********** dealer investigation unit since you have done nothin.Business Response

In regard to ************** complaints. There has to be willingness on both parties to resolve an issue. ************* has not been willing to bring us the vehicle so we can fix or Provide us with a second failed deq slip. I have left several messages for her and her daughter that have not been returned. *************** was provided a second trip permit at no charge. repaired exhaust,cat.
When the vehicle was brought in for repair ************* did not allow us the proper time to diagnostic and repair deq issue. We did offer rental car assistance but she decline to get a rental car. ************* has caused some damages to the emission exhaust system which we have repaired. Our dealership has pictures of extensive damage to the bottom of this vehicle by going off road and bottoming the car out on rough unpaved roads putting holes in the exhaust and converter cat. Also the Vehicle was taken to mechanic after being brought back the second time and the honest one auto car notice there was way to much oil in the motor which could cause other issue.This was noted by the shop and ************** was told of the problem. They said they had put oil in the motor and didn't understand the proper way to check it. If *************** needs copies of any or all her documents we can provide her with copies. Eastside Auto will repair the deq issue which is down to one evap code. Eastside Auto has repaired all deq related issue on all our customer cars. We have a great record. ************** will simple not let us repair her car that she doesnt want.

4/17/23 I bought a suv was given 20 day permit, 24 hours later car wouldn't start I called and said I didnt want car. I took it back & **** pushed me into leaving it for 3-4days to fix. 3 days later he said a hose was broken & something with catalytic converter. 7 days I finally got car. Drove 28 miles home, next morning won't start again more lights came on engine light still on. I texted him he wanted me to chk this or that. I was at the hospital doing pre-op couldn't do it then. Next day took it in. **** wasn't there, I called him he yelled at me accused me of stuff. Told me to take it to mechanic next door. The mechanic said (all he did was a engine compression check, & replace hose, unless I was paying for it he wouldn't do it to talk to ****. I couldn't leave the car I had no way home, **** said he wouldn't be back for 2-3 hours. I talked to an employee he said he couldn't do anything. I drove it home , since then it won't pass DEQ I've triied several times. **** has never returned my call. It's past my 20day trip permit now I've been pulled over 2 times by police. I am 70 yrs old and have to have a reliable car. I paid $8,000 for 1 that won't go thru DEQ. I rented a car for the 7 days he had the car for a hose? I had told him 3 times in 72 hours I didn't want this ********* not right that a dealership sells a car and it won't pass DEQ 30 DAYS LATER. I can't afford to get another rental car. Please there has to be something that can be done to help in this situation. I live 7 miles from a store & half the time it doesn't start. I replaced the battery, but the powersteering light comes on, the wipers come on at will which I video taped. Thank you for looking at my complaint. Please tell me what I can do.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:
I have grave concerns without guarantees, he's a liar. I will be glad to show anyone my phone there has been no phone calls or texts from him since 4/23/23. He lied about what the mechanic next door did when he had it for 7 days. The mechanic told me what he did replace a hose and compression chk**** told ** he kept a ladies car for 30 days trying to fix it once, thats not acceptable. Well, it's already been 30 days & I took it there twice 100 miles for me driving. My daughter called him this morning (unaware that I had sent in a complaint to BBB.)
She had it on speaker with 2 witnesses of him ,"screaming & cussing at her because I submitted a complaint. Stating I was just trying to get a new car & money." I already paid $150 for a rental for 7 days the first time he had this car to fix that didnt get done. He told her "he sent the dmv money back to them?" Them who and why would he do that knowing that this car wouldnt go thru deq? So, that shows he's living about reaching out to me because I would have to be a idiot not to have it fixed. I am 70 years old and live remote 7 miles from nearest town. I can not be stranded with NO car again, I have high blood pressure & have a knee replacement that's in recall (I can't bend my knee or walk far). I don't understand my options because I CANT TRUST HIM. HE'S LIED TO YOU & ME. He doesn't offer rental car then he should pay for one because I have no way of knowing if he wouldn't just keep the car longer out of spite. My first payment is due for this car & it still hasn't past DEQ. **** told my daughter " he would fix the problem, take it thru deq & would not get license plates & tags for it, but would guarantee it for 30 days after DEQ but that is NOT IN HIS STATEMENT TO YOU. ON my contract I was CHARGED for licensing, plates & tags. Please can you insure that this would be done? And not take 7 days sitting. He has inconvienced me for 30 days by not reaching out to me to get this taken care of in a professional manner. I'm not paying for licensing, tags & plates & that was his responsibility. This is the 2nd time this man has been abusive to me & now my daughter when we just wanted it resolved 20 days ago. I want it agreed to in writing on license, tags, & plates, also a time frame 72 hrs?. I'm paying $8,000 for this car he should be held accountable. Can someone call me maybe. I'm scared of him, I'm a domestic violence survivor & have over came tremendous issues from years ago, his screaming & cussing terrifys me while bringing back fears I haven't had in years. What are my options? I can't believe him or trust him.

At this time we prefer ************* can take the 2011 Chev Equinox directly to ****************** at **** se ************************************. The contact is **** (owner) *********** to repair related deq items as needed. Unfortunately we cannot give ************** a specific day or time frame for repairs. Estimate maybe 1-5 days if an appointment were set but it could be longer. The last image of a *** certificate was of a non ready for test result do to a new battery being installed. ************* needs to take it back thru The *** test center to see if its now passed or not. If it is not passing she needs to call and set her own appointment for repair at honest 1 auto care. Eastside Auto Sales will pay for parts and labor said deq related items that are needed to pass the emission test. Eastside Auto sales inc.does not cover rental car or other transportation needs ************** may have. ************* title was transferred into her name on May 2nd per ****** state law and a refund of ****** dollars was giving to the lending bank on her loan for plates and registration. Do to the many false claims by ************* and her daughter it is our advice they set up the appointment directly with Honest 1 auto care and have no futher contact with Eastside Auto sale inc.
