On 7/28 my car was stolen in ******** OR, I had it towed to VIP Collision on 8/2 after it was recovered. It was damaged but drivable. VIP told me they could fix my car but were very slow to communicate with both myself and my USAA agent. Several weeks passed and my car was deemed a total loss. I immediately called VIP and let them know Id like to retain my vehicle and have them fix it. VIP told me they could do that and I got a text on 8/30 that parts had been ordered and a mechanic would be assigned to me. On 9/5 VIP called me back and told me they could no longer fix my car. At this point I called a tow and had my car taken to a new shop. When the tow truck arrived I got a call from the tow company letting me know that VIP wouldnt release my car because of unpaid fees. I had not been made aware of any fees previously and hadnt even signed a work release form because VIP had never sent one even though I asked several times. I called VIP and asked them to release my car and was told that if my insurance didnt pay my storage fees, then they would come after me for the money. They did release my car to the towing company on 9/5 and I didnt pay them. My insurance agent called me back on 9/6 and told me that VIP had asked for $7,500 in storage fees for every day my car was there, but then brought it down to only $2,500 from the day my car was deemed a total loss. She told me that VIP told her they would not release my car unless I paid. VIP asked my insurance agent to overnight a check for $2,500 but she declined. This was confusing to me because VIP had released my car to me the day before, I believe they were lying to my agent trying to get money. Throughout this experience with VIP I was consistently reaching out to the shop for updates. I was led to believe my car was there to be fixed and was trying to hurry the process along. I was never told about any potential storage fees. I would like VIP to drop the fees and stop trying to contact me.
