    Business Response

    Date: 10/01/2024

****** **** came in on 3/8/2024 and met with **** ****** regarding his 2023 taxes for both his business and his wife and his partnership business and their personal tax return. *************,  ************************* and ****** and ******** **** individual tax return. Once we received all their information in June we began working on their returns. ************************* was completed June 18, 2024, ************* required *********** services in order to get financials. This return was completed July 5, 2024 and their personal return was completed July 16, 2024. At this point **** had talked to ****** several times including on July 8, 2024 recommending switching to an ************* due to his income. At this same time we discussed the increase of his return due to the bookkeeping services and discussed how to decrease his fee next year. August 15, 2024 ****** called to make payments to his accounts and shared with me that he was not happy with the results of his personal return that there was no way they owed 9K to IRS and Oregon, How could he owe that much as he can barely live month to month . **** told ****** that if he had concerns that we can work with him and review the returns with him. That she was happy to rework the return if he had concerns he said that he doesnt know if they are wrong but feels they are because of the amount of money owed.

On Aug 19, 2024 ****** said that he got another preparer and said the bookkeeping was done incorrectly and that is why the returns were incorrect. **** told ****** she was happy to rework the return based on these new financials at no charge, but ****** said he had the other preparer file all the returns. **** thanked him for letting her know but he was still responsible for the fees assessed as she offered to fix everything at no additional charge.

****** then sent in the same financial reports as he gave us to do the bookkeeping with highlighted numbers for ************* prepared by the other preparer.August 20, 2024 ****** and **** reviewed what was given since she wanted to see the difference.  They couldnt see anything different. **** emailed him and asked for a copy of the Tax return in which he gave page 6 only. He kept saying the Accounts Receivable was the same amount as the cash in the bank.  We stopped at this point since it was a mute point for his return.

On September 25, 2024 when **** contacted him regarding his unpaid accounts ****** said that he had issues with the returns prepared and went elsewhere for a 2nd opinion and that person prepped the tax returns and came up with a different end result.

On September 27, 2024 **** called ****** and spoke with him at length regarding the returns and that they were prepared based on the information I received from him, she asked several questions when he originally gave her the reports. Our Bookkeeper prepared the financials based on those reports. ****** kept telling me that if a mechanic doesnt fix a car correctly how does the mechanic expect to get paid.Using his analogy **** said so the mechanic says the car is fixed and charges for his time/labor but if car isnt fixed normally people go back to the mechanic and states the car is still making funny noises,  can you please relook at it.  **** said he never gave me the chance to fix it he just went somewhere else. She did the work, she offered to relook and even make changes for no additional charges. He said ok so lets negotiate, That is when **** offered to go down 35% off the total bill and remove the $250 bookkeeping fee. He said he needed to talk with his wife.  That was the last we heard until now.

I am rejecting this response because:

    Sincerely,

    ****** ****

The job was done incorrectly. Tax Minimizers came to concussion I owed irs ****** dollars in total, I sent **** the page 6 form of where the main issues where wrong information was filled in with regarding my taxes. As a consumer I have a right to have a second opinion on work provided. With the amount incorrectly put into my taxes. I had lost all confidence in **** and tax Minimizers in their ability to do correct tax filings.

The new cpa that did my taxes received same paperwork I turned into tax Minimizers and have since recieved a return on my tax filing. Not me paying in ******

I am willing to go to a third company with both returns and have evaluated and if they come to conclusion tax Minimizers has incorrectly input my information I would like to be reimbursed for the 3rd opinion as well as recogize their mistakes and wave fee for incorrect job done.

I was informed when I picked up my tax paperwork that is was done and correct by tax Minimizers if there was reworking that needed or could have been done why wasn't it done in first place. The work was far from complete or correct.

BBB is unable to locate the business.
March 2024. We've been using this firm for years. When we called to ask when we could pick up our tax returns, we were ambushed by the information that their fee had jumped by $275. We asked to speak to manager. Three days later, my husband and I were both on the call, so we both heard the information. We were told we'd been receiving a "courtesy discount" they were no longer giving. We were never informed in previous years that we were receiving a "courtesy discount." We weren't told in advance about this jump in fees, and were unprepared to pay that much. We would not have used them if we'd known. We asked for an itemized invoice showing how long it took to prepare our return. *********************, the person who did our return, who is also the office manager, had just completed it ***** hrs beforehand, because they'd held it for 3 weeks w/o working on it and we had to call and remind them to do it. But she claimed she "didn't know how long it took." She stated our fee was "based on an average of 5 hours to complete returns similar to ours." I consulted with 3 other accountants for information, and there's no way our return took 5 hours. Also, based on other accountants' fees, this firm is overcharging by about $300 with this fee increase. ********************* stated they were increasing the fee to "make clients appreciate our time and expertise in doing their taxes." We said, "So you just want to make more money?" and she replied "Yes." We had filled out a booklet with all of our info, and all they had to do was input the figures and check for errors. They are charging "based on an average" and not the actual time spent preparing the return. This is unethical. ********************* offered to reduce the overcharge by half, and said it was the best she could do. We accepted this because it was all they would offer, but we should receive ALL of this unexpected fee increase back. We are seeking a refund of $137.50

We hear your concern and frustration.  Our fees are based on the overall time it takes to prepare certain types of returns, it is not by form or by hour. I don't know where the 5 hour comment came from, but you have been receiving a sizeable discount for years.  We notified the available discounts this year in our year end letter to you, some of which you chose to utilize.  I cannot disclose specifics of your return, but I can say that the fee charged is a fair fee for the work and time involved in the complexity of your return.  Your personal accusations calling our staff "greedy" is unacceptable and unprofessional.  We choose not to continue in the conversation.  That being said, it is not our intent to surprise or shock anyone.  I understand from speaking with staff that we failed in having a direct conversation with you regarding the fee prior to the preparation, and solely for that I apologize.  Due to that reason, I am refunding the $137.50 you requested.  We wish you a more positive working relationship in the future.
