I took my dog ****** to the Southern Oregon Vet Center on July 23 2023 because of a mass that appeared on his neck. The vet did fine needle aspiration and a cytology on the mass she said it looks like an abscess and they wanted to drain it. They gave us a quote of the procedure $1840-$2140, for the procedure to be performed we had to pay the high end of the quote. I had a care credit limit of $2200 we paid and waited for a call. 30 minutes later we got a call from the vet saying the results came back from the mass and it shows possible signs of cancer (lymphoma) and that we need to come pick up our dog. They gave us a refund of $966 on the Care Credit because they didn't do the full procedure. The next step is to follow up with SOVSC internal medicine and a referral memo has been submitted they will reach out to make an appointment. 4 days later we get a call to make an appointment the only appointment they had available was August 9th we had to save this spot with a $180 consultation deposit that we had to pay over the phone so we did. later that night ****** was having trouble breathing so the next day we took him into our primary vet in Eagle Point. She checked him out and was very frustrated she explained that the 9th was to far away with how fast the mass was growing he wasn't going to make it. She then asked if we were given referrals to other clinics or put on cancellation list I told her no even more frustrated our vet called Internal Medicine expressing the concern. The lady on the phone said they had an opening that same day and would call with more detail, she called and said they have no openings tell the 9th and there is nothing they can do. So with the help of our Vet ****** was able to be seen at a Clinic in Spring field he ended up getting the mass removed all together and there was no signs of cancer. We called SOVSC 3 times to cancel our appointment and get a refund all 3 times they said they would call us back and still no call very unprofessional

Very unfair and deceptive practices. They would not tell me the costs until after they separated me from my cat. Then when I refused the course of tests they were requiring just to treat my cats UTI. Ultrasound(s), they wanted to admit her to the hospital for monitoring, additional bloodwork and X-rays, just to diagnose what seemed to me to be a pretty obvious UTI- and then they would be able to decide on treatment after thousands of dollars. I said that isn’t normal practices for a cat, she has had a uti before and her doctor would attempt to get a urine sample and if unsuccessful, would offer a round of antibiotics and if she doesn’t improve- THEN, would suggest additional testing. They refused & said they wouldn’t give her anything until they ran all these tests. So I said that’s fine, I’ll just take her to her normal doctor. Them- that will be $180. It then dawned on me why they separated me from my cat, bc now I won’t be able to refuse them payment bc they are implying they won’t return her & they didn’t return her to me until after they collected payment from me. I tried to dispute their practices but all they did was gaslight me and make me feel like I wasn’t getting my cat back unless I went along with their game. Someone needs to do something about these business practices. They felt wholly unfair and deceptive & I left feeling extorted. They should be required to be clear & upfront about their fees just as my regular doctors office was the next day. They quoted the price before even seeing my cat, then they quoted the price for the urine sample and when they couldn’t get a sample, they didn’t charge me for the attempt and then offered antibiotics and if it didn’t get better, then these are the tests we could do. Normal, fair and ethical business practices one should be able to expect from all practitioners. I feel they are preying on people in distress about having an urgent matter pertaining to their furry family members.
