The BBB Serving Central Oklahoma became aware of Corporate Events Sales and Rental in October 2011. According to inquirers, the company represents itself (among other things) as a timeshare reseller, and consumers in contact with the BBB state that an initial mailing from the firm offers to arrange the sale of the consumer's Mexican timeshare property. The agreement included with the mailings includes the commission rate and fees to be charged for the sale. The OKC-BBB urges extreme caution when dealing with any company offering to resell vacation properties. Complaints filed against other firms making similar offers state that the timeshare seller demands up front fees other than the commissions suggested in the initial agreement, sometimes involving thousands of dollars for "administration fees," "transfers" or other expenses that may or may not result in an actual sale. Property owners are strongly cautioned against paying advance fees of any type in this situation; consumers have invested thousands of dollars in the sale of the property -- sometimes through escrow companies or directly into Mexican bank accounts -- and saw nothing in return and have little chance of obtaining a refund.

On October 5, 2011, members of the OKC-BBB staff attempted to locate the physical address of the company as stated in its agreement. The staff members failed to confirm the address; the physical location of the firm is unknown at this time.

Consumers have associated Corporate Events Sales and Rental with Calderman and Smythe Holdings, said to be the escrow company working with the reseller. Staff members of the BBB in Kentucky where Calderman and Smythe is supposed to be located have identified the stated physical address for that company to be an empty lot. The report on that company can be found online at: http://www.bbb.org/lexington/business-reviews/escrow-service/calderman-and-smythe-holdings-in-lexington-ky-9104352?language=1 or by searching for the company name at www.bbb.org.

This report will be updated when more information becomes available on the company.
