On July 11, 2022 (contract sent back to Vortex Vaults on July 6, 2022) a $2000.00 deposit was paid to Vortex Vaults for the *************** safe room. I was told that I would be contacted 2 weeks prior to installation, which was expected to be in October 2022 per the individual I spoke with. After not receiving any updates from Vortex Vaults as October 2022 approached, I called multiple times to the main number of the company and the owners phone number (*********************). I also e-mailed the sales e-mail multiple times. Neither avenue resulted in a response, until ********************* answered a call during the week of November 14, 2022. He asked that I call back at the beginning of December 2022 for an update on an estimation of the installation date as they were working on a schedule for installs and expected to know more at the beginning of December 2022. I called at the beginning of December 2022, left voice messages and e-mailed as well with no response. I sent an e-mail on May 23, 2023 with a request for a refund of the $2000.00 deposit and have not received a response.Initial Complaint

I purchased a LifeLift system from Vortex Vault last year with a 10-year warranty for replacement parts, etc. I have had difficulty closing the doors on the LifeLift system and it does not seem to be ready for a tornado. It appears that the doors are not aligned correctly and need some work. The entire system does not appear to be aligned correctly. It takes a long time to rise so I keep it in the risen position and do not use the bed anymore.I cannot get any help from Vortex Vaults just to check out the system and make sure it is safe. I have called many times, beginning about December 2022, to get them to come out just to check the system and see if everything is okay. However, they have not tried to get in contact with me. I went by the office and no one was there.I need someone to check out the system to see if it is okay just in case my house is hit by a tornado or strong winds.Initial Complaint

When sirens sounded, we tried to use the shelter. Raising it took way too long,the grinding, screeching could have been heard in *****. When we finally got in it, the doors wouldnt align so it couldnt be closed. We inspected it and found one of the Jacks came out of the ground. Scared of it collapsing and being crushed Company has not responded to our many phone calls, even the 24/7 Emergency number. Bed is uneven adding to the problem. Also cant be lowered. Please. Before the next tornado, while its still under warranty, can this disaster be corrected?Initial Complaint

***** 26, 2019 Mr. *********************** began installation of the telescoping Queen size storm shelter. It was a long day and he did not finish. The vault cost me $10,752.50. I provided a deposit of $2,000 up front. I purchased this because I saw it on Shark Tank and decided being alone with two dogs (one with diabetes who required insulin shots every twelve hours) it would give me a safe space in my home when threatening weather passed in the area. ***** 27, 2019 **************** spent another long day here installing the vault. ***** 30, 2019 The vault was finally completed after another long day from 1:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. I began experiencing problems with the vault shortly after installation. I do not have the date and details of what **************** fixed, but at one point he changed out the middle hinge stating that was the problem with the middle door not closing properly. He also changed out a motor at one time. May 9, 2019 Texted **************** about the LED lights which in the booklet he gave me showed lights are part of the shelter. May 11, 2019 **************** came to work on the vault and while at my home he put the headboard and foot board on it for me. June 10, 2019 I texted ****** stating Just checking in to see what you found out about the LED lights and the replacement hinge. A tornado touched down not far from me (in Sunset) this past Thursday morning. I had the bed open, but never got an alert so I ordered a ********************** from Amazon. Also installed a tornado app from ************* on my cell. June 10, 2019 Text from ******: I have the new hinge and plan to install later this week. What about the LED lights?My response, You asked me to send you the page from the owner booklet you gave me, which says its standard. I highlighted this in yellow in my appointment calendar. Printed a copy of the email message chat with ****** at Vortex Vaults in ******** (copy attached). I wrote the following notes on the back of the printed copy, Scared to put it down because it appears to be falling apart due to improper installation. There should be a record of the motor issues. Hinge in middle part replaced, but its worse!!! One red pin wont fit into place. Scratches on it from who knows what. All red pins have paint chipped! Good thing its not my regular bed or Id be out of luck!! Cant have overnight guests now. December 24, 2020 My text to ******: Good morning and Happy Christmas Eve. Do you still work with the ********* Systems? Last night after the vault was open I had trouble opening the middle door. I had to crawl inside and wiggle the silver metal gadget that lifts to release the door. If you recall there were problems early on with the middle section. My concern is as I age I wont be able to crawl inside to release that door. I did not receive a response via text, but believe ****** called me on the phone. January 1, 2021 Text to ******: Are you still a rep for the vault system? Mine is now stuck and wont go down.****** did not reply via text, but I believe he left a message on my voice mail because my next text on January 2, 2021 states: Thank you for your message. I understand and am also trying to avoid COVID by staying home as much as possible. I called the company number in ********, and a rep called me back. He said h*** give the message to a tech who will call me on Monday in hopes of walking me through fixing the problem. Take care and stay safe. I told her about my issues and began a message thread via ******** Messenger.My first message via ******** Messenger was on ***** 17, 2021 at 1:45 p.m. The bed is awesome except when its installed by someone whos not an engineer then he loses the contract with this company leaving me with a product stuck in the upright position. Im very unhappy at the moment. Someone from this company was scheduled to visit my home to fix the vault on Thursday, but nobody showed up at my house nor did anyone call to let me know they changed their schedule. Ive called the company several times, spoke with **** and today I spoke with the new administrative assistant who promised to get answers. Every week weve been having a storm. It appears the top part is going down too close to the middle section and rubbing against the side. Im afraid to force it. Im hoping theyve filled you in on what was done. My fears were answered. The guy who installed it didnt get it right. The question I had about why the bottom part has a gap unlike the top when it joins the middle part. Its not at a 90 degree angle. Im concerned about it jamming again especially when I need to raise it. Should I make plans to reorganize my rooms and plan to leave the vault up indefinitely? I joke about it, but would prefer to have it down when theres no severe weather threats. I put it up yesterday due to severe weather again...4th week in a row. Just put it down a few minutes ago. The top part made a little clucking noise as it neared the end of its lowering in place. I did not receive a reply from **** or the company. December 14, 2022 Vault issues again! Clunking noise. On April 8th, I sent a $2,000 deposit for purchase and installation of their product. I was told it would be installed in eight weeks. I did not hear anything from them so I emailed them on June 16th, and they told me it would be mid-July. I emailed August 1st and was told they received a bad shipment of steel and they did not know the new timeline. On August 11th, I cancelled the order and requested the $2,000 deposit be refunded. The asked for the address to mail the refund. On August 17th they said they could install it on August 19th if I wanted, but I said to proceed with the cancellation. I am not sure how a unit was available to be installed right away once I cancelled the order. On September 19th I had yet to receive the refunded deposit, and I emailed them again. On the 21st of September I received a response from them that they would respond that day. They never responded, even though I have emailed them on September 28th, October 10th, and November 11th. I am looking for Vortex Vaults to refund my $2,000 as they said they would back in August.Initial Complaint

I put a $2000 deposit down on a Vortex Vault Work station storm shelter on 3/11/22. After we finally got the OK from our HOA, an installation date was set for 9/14/22. About a week before that date, I received a call from the girl in the office saying the metal was dented and they had to cancel our installation date.A new installation date was set for 10/12/22. This shelter was being installed at our vacation home in *******. We live in ********. We made the trip to ******* and on day of installation, no one came and no one would answer the phone. The main office number would not answer nor the Salesman/Owner ********************* would not answer his phone either. I left several message. ********************* finally returned my call that afternoon and said they would not be there and he told me he would call me back within 2 days and try to get me on the schedule as soon as possible. Well 2 days went by, I called, text, messenger, etc without any response. That was back in October. I have tried every form of communication I know to reach **** since then without any response until I decided to call his local Chamber of Commence 10/20/22.. They were very nice and tried to see if he would answer the phone when a local number called him. He answered right away twice for them. Then I received an email from **** that day saying I would get my money back within 10 days that they had production issues. I have not received a refund. I decided to post on ******** my experience and 2 others contacted me and have had the same experience. They both put a deposit down and no product was delivered. I called the Chamber back to let them know and they suggested I contact BBB, Channel 4 News or the Attorney General. I left **** a message then saying I was tired of his games and I was going to call the news or the Attorney General and guess what, **** immediately called me back. I put a deposit of $2000 down on a storm shelter (future project) and I was quoted that is is refundable. Because the storm shelter is not able to be brought in on my property, they gave me the option to pay more to have it built here on my property or cancel the storm shelter project. I chose to cancel. Levi told me approximately three weeks ago that he would get my $2000 full refund in the mail to me right away. I did not receive it and I’ve called, texted, and emailed them numerous times. No one will answer or return my calls. Now they have apparently blocked my number because when I attempt to call, it won’t even ring in. I have all of my correspondences documented. I need my $2000 refund now. The resolution that I am seeking is my $2000 full refund to be refunded to me immediately as promised.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. In the event that I do not receive the payment I will recontact you. Vortex Vaults told me over a month ago that they were issuing me a refund immediately and fif not go it.

Im very happy to say that I reached out to the ** Sow, Shark Tank who financially supported Vortex Vault's and they got my $2000 back for me! It appears that ********************* knew at the time he collected my deposit that their company was going under. They definitely scammed me. I wasnt going to settle for that! Im very blessed! Shark Tank made certain that I got my money back! Thank you as well for trying to help me.Respectfully,***************************
