Steven H*** came to my mother's home on Aug 15 along with a trainee named Cameron. Someone from his office called her and led her to believe they had been referred to help her with her health insurance. All of the info they had was my dad's info, that passed away in June. She has dementia and is easily confused. He took all of her health info from her and told her he would help get her cost down on her insurance payments. She told them about my dad's passing and trouble we were having with a life insurance company. He offered to help her and made a phone call to the company. After seeing how difficult they were to deal with, he offered to help her with it. He took my dad's life insurance policy that was hand stamped "paid in full" with a signature. He said he'd work on it and call her back Friday to schedule a follow up visit the next week. She didn't hear back from him. On 9/29 I started calling his office which told me to call his cell. So I started leaving him messages requesting to pick up my dad's life ins policy from his office. On 10/4, he answered my call but said he'd have to look into it. He didn't remember it so he wasn't working on it. On 10/7, instead of calling me back he called my mom's phone. I happened to answer it and was told he had mailed it. Never received it. On 10/20 I started calling him again requesting to pick it up. I left this message several times. On 11/1 he finally answered my call to tell me that he mailed this irreplaceable piece of paper worth $1000 from a company that is going to require proof and did not send it where it can be tracked. That was irresponsible. I asked him who referred him to my mother and he would not tell me. I think they read death notices and take advantage of grieving widows. He basically stole $1000 from an 83 yr old grieving widow with dementia along with her personal info. I don't want this to happen to anyone else. But they owe the $1000 or the original policy.

      Business response

      02/23/2023

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/11/30) */ Important to know that the "Consumer" that put forth this complaint is not a consumer at all. No business has ever been transacted between SFF and the "Consumer". Nothing has been taken from this individual. SFF, nor any SFF affiliate has ever received any money or compensation in any form, from this "Consumer". Help was offered in an effort to assist with a claim that was denied by an insurance carrier with no relationship to SFF. The claims made in this complaint are baseless and false. They are slanderous and irresponsible. Perhaps the "Consumer" here should take issue with the carrier that business was actually transacted with. Consumer Response /* (3000, 10, 2022/12/01) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Nothing I stated is false. Their agent made a cold call to my mom claiming it was a referral. I asked who the referral was. No response. So there's lie #1. He came to help her with her health insurance. Took all her personal info. Was supposed to call her the same week to set up an appointment. Did not call her back about that. So lie #2. Then it took many calls after a month and a half to get a response. He also took my dad's life insurance policy that he was supposed to help her with, but did nothing with as far as we know. So lie #3. Then I requested to stop by to pick up the policy but he put it in regular mail. No tracking info. A hand stamped document that I needed to file the claim. That was what was irresponsible. So how is anything I say slanderous? It's all facts. Maybe we need to have an attorney put your agent under oath if this is how you choose to respond instead of an apology for taking advantage of my mother and accusing me of slander. Business Response /* (4000, 12, 2022/12/08) */ We do not "read death notices and take advantage of widows". No one "basically stole" anything. We did not "take advantage of your mother". Absolutely no business exists between us. No transaction, no purchase, no monies exchanged, and no change in you or your mother's position. Neither party has gained or lost anything. We haven't stolen anything and we don't owe you any money. You state that we have stolen from you, you state that we owe you money, you state that "we read death notices and take advantage of widows", and you state that "we took advantage of your mother". These statements are not true. That being stated, SFF would be happy to get your feedback on any experience you have had with one of our agents. We are not defending or condemning the interaction you may have had with our agent. We simply can't do that, because we were not present during any interaction. We exist to help people avoid financial stress and devastation. Perhaps this would be evident to you if you were actually a client of ours. The fact that you are not a client of ours, still doesn't prevent us from hearing what you have to say. We welcome your call, or even an in-person visit at our office. We can always listen, we can always improve. We still remain faithfully at your service. Consumer Response /* (4200, 14, 2022/12/16) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I never claimed any money was exchanged. I stated that a cold call was made claiming that it was a referral. When this agent showed up at my mother's house (yes, they go to your house), he only had my dad's information. Where did he get that? So the agent then took my mother's personal information claiming he would save her money on her health insurance with a follow up call later that week, but never called her in over two month's time. Then he "offered her help" with filing a claim on my dad's life insurance policy....in which he took the actual policy.... again claiming to get back to her later that week. I called many times leaving voicemails each times requesting that I wanted to pick it up at the office. He didn't return my calls at all. He finally answered after two months of voicemails only to tell me mailed this legal document of life insurance money that was hand stamped and had a signature on it that we needed in regular mail....knowing that we were having issues with this company. So I hope that this goes on the Better Business Bureau website. I hope it saves someone else from doing business with such a sketchy company that instead of accepting responsibility for their actions, they choose to deflect and place the blame on me. We didn't call and ask for your business. You weren't referred as claimed. I've asked everyone and no one has ever heard of this company. But they do now and they know how you choose to do business. And we know if there are any issues in the future with my mother's personal info, where to start looking. It just amazes me that a company would not just have at the very least apologized for their lack of responsibility. But to actually try to turn it around on the daughter protecting her mother. That just disgusts me!
