We hired SPO to install a solar power system for our house in December 2021 for around $30K. We based this decision on the company's longevity and good ratings at the time. The install went great and they were always very responsive when I had questions after the install. There was even an issue where there were a couple of bad panels or inverters that they replaced without issue and even went above and refunded 3 months of our loan payments to make it right.
In November of 2024, a leak in our roof was discovered and determined by 2 roofers that it was caused by the screws from the solar panels not being properly sealed. I have reached out by phone to both the Edmond and Tulsa office multiple times and received no return communication. The only response I have received was from the rep who was my contact when purchasing the system however he was no longer with the company but he was able to provide phone numbers of individuals in the company that I have since reached out to as well and have also not received any reply.Initial Complaint

Roof leaking. I've had roofers out, & they all say the leak is caused by holes drilled by the solar company's install.Customer Answer
Date: 11/23/2024
I had a Solar system installed by this company, & have had numerous roof leaks, The first leak, was addressed by the company, in May 2023, this newest leak, they have not returned my calls or emails. I had a roofer come out & inspect where the leaks are coming from, & they found 2 holes, that were drilled for solar panel brackets, were never sealed, & never used for a bracket. I bought this system, because of the company's, so called longevity to honor their 25 Year Warranty, & they have apparently breached that contract. I have since, stopped paying on this system, & am also contacting my state's Attorney General's office. The company's website, & phone number are still working, but they will not return my calls or email, thus rendering my warranty as worthless, sticking me with a $30k + bill, and a leaky roof. I am not sure what other information that is needed, or that I can provide, but this issue is making me physically ill. My house is only 4 years old, & I should not have this issue.Initial Complaint

We contacted Solar Power of Oklahoma (SPO) back around March 2024 about adding two Telsa Powerwalls to our existing solar power setup for our house. They did send someone out to inspect the current solar setup and said they could do the installation with a price quote.
We went with their recommended preferred solar bank lender, ****** *****. The loan was approved through ****** ***** and we were told around June/July will be the targeted install date.
We haven't heard anything from the company for a while and tried calling them with no success. We then received a generic email from them saying they were going through financial difficulties and to reach out to them through email. We sent multiple emails with no response back and tried calling them with no answer still.
At this time, the ****** ***** lent out just over $13,000 to SPO, but SPO hasn't done any work or delivered any Telsa Powerwalls. We sent an email that we wanted to cancel this order and have the loan money returned to ****** ***** to close out the loan a few weeks ago with no response again. SPO is also not answering any phone calls again.
We have been in contact with the ****** ***** Solar loan department to cancel the loan and reverse the loan payment from SPO, but ***** ****** is having trouble getting in contact with Solar Power of Oklahoma.
We want them to refund the loan money to ****** ***** and cancel the order with Solar Power of Oklahoma. At this time we are looking at other options with the ****** ***** team and with the Oklahoma State Department.Initial Complaint

On 3/4/2024 my husband signed a contract with this company against my wishes and without my signature. The company then sent him to a credit union to finance this project and on 3/5/2024 the credit union sent Solar Power of Oklahoma over $12,500.00. The work never started nor do we want it to start at this point. (I never agreed to ever being done). We contacted Credit Human Credit Union and advised we wanted to cancel this project and they advised money was already sent to Solar Power of Oklahoma and that the funds need to be returned to cancel. We contacted Solar Power of Oklahoma and told them to cancel this project. They then say we have not started this work and we would not be held to contract and we would need to contact Credit Human credit union to cancel. We then tied all emails together with Solar Power and Credit Human and now there is no response from Solar Power.Initial Complaint

On February 21, 2024 I executed an agreement with Solar Power of Oklahoma to provide and install a 12.3 kW system consisting of 30 solar panels, 15kW inverter and 30kWh of batteries, a 24kW back-up generator. The cost of equipment and services was $64,000. Just prior to the installation period I made a deposit of $32,000 for the equipment as agreed to in the contract. That deposit was made on May 30, 2024. On or about June 18, 2024 all attempts I made to communicate with Solar Power of Oklahoma to confirm my installation have been ignored. I left several voice mail messages and emails starting on or about June 18, 2024. My wife left a message to the personal cell phone to the owner (***********************) and we have received no return communications. We have left at least 8 messages and 3 emails requesting contact. Solar Power of Oklahoma and the owner ***************** have not been in contact with me. Based on social media posts, (LinkedIn) all employees were terminated on Monday June 17, 2024.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: My request was for a full cash refund of $32,000. That was never provided and **************** indicated that he and the firm did not have the money to provide me with a refund. He did provide solar panels but the monetary value of the solar panels was less that $10,000. That was all he was able and willing to provide to me for compensation. As **************** stated Solar Power of Oklahoma was not able remain in business I accepted the panels to get something for the deposit I made of $32,000.

Solar Power of Oklahoma (Company) was hired to design and install a solar panel system that that would provide all essential electrical needs of the house off grid while pulling grid power only as needs exceeded solar production - not a net metering system. Once they were paid, they informed me the system could not support my HVAC and they found a provider to fix my gas fireplace for alternate heat. That remains inadequate and without AC. Then they applied for OG&E permits because they were installing a net metering system. They assured me that it would save me electrical costs and the batteries would provide the off grid back up for my house. When OG&E replaced my meter last fall without notice, the solar production dropped from the previous 4+ kWh in full sun to under 0.5 kWh. While the Company assured me OG&E had no access to my system, this loss of production was fixed with reprogramming alone. When annual records showed my OG&E bill was barely reduced (0-40% savings even with my usage reduction) I realized the batteries were being kept at 100% and all solar power produced was being diverted to OG&E, while all house usage was purchased from OG&E. Programming again changed this so the batteries were utilized down to 35% charge. Because my home is 90 miles from the Company, in February 2024, they asked to install a remote monitoring system, which was done. Unfortunately the system failed almost immediately and they informed me that their provider wanted $300 to troubleshoot. When I declined that charge, they went silent, even when I lost all solar power after the grid went down in the April 2024 tornadoes although the batteries still had 27% charge.I also discovered I had no power to two items they insist are on the solar panel, and realized further that fully charged batteries are drained to 35% in 12 hours without full sun. This system was not designed to meet my stated requirements and now they won't fix it to provide power when the grid goes down.Business Response

We are going out on Monday to confirm the setting on her system as well as check her circuits to make sure it is all wired and setup correctly.
However, we will not have that information until the crews get back.
There are several inaccuracies in the complaint but I want to make sure the system is correct before responding.
When must we reply by?

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because the company claims my history of service is inaccurate and because the product installed is inadequate to provide the backup power I requested them to bid from the beginning.
I need at least three days of back up battery power when the grid goes down.I was told this system could power all my essential home functions when the grid was down. It cannot power my HVAC to keep plumbing from freezing in winter.
We can now see that the battery charged during the day is completely depleted overnight, which happens each day there is sunlight. Without daylight, the battery is depleted after one night.
Even if the grid goes down at 100% battery charge, it will only power the most basic functions for 18 hours- refrigerator, freezer, internet and a couple lights and outlets. It can't power any other appliances, heat or cooling, oven or hot water. Running the fireplace or one fan doubles the draw and depletes the batteries twice as fast, so 100% battery charge will only last about 9-10 hours without sun. This was misrepresented to me.
Storms in Oklahoma regularly block sun for 3 days or more and if the power goes out, it can take days to restore.
It is true that the company sent out a team of two techs this week to fix the wiring issues with one circuit and the wifi, which they did. They reprogrammed it again, and we will see if it's working correctly. The team could not correct an insufficient system design, but indicated the company would like to make things right.
I am resigned to having a net metering system connected to OG&E, and not having HVAC backup power, despite those disappointments. I believe the system will require a propane generator to charge the batteries on cloudy days because there is not room for six times the batteries, additional panels might be required to charge more batteries and that would be prohibitively expensive.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because the ProPV monitoring system is down again. Last full day of service was **** 3.Company was notified and no response has been received. While I appreciate that the company has reprogrammed the unit and connected the garage fridge and water heater to the back up panel, only the grid going down will confirm the unit is functioning properly as designed.
Last issue is the biggest. This system was not designed to do what I requested from the beginning and as I was repeatedly promised. The battery capacity is too low for a back up system. Even when I have reduced household consumption to under 1kwh, and even if the battery is 100% charged, it will only last one night without sunlight. I need at least 3 days of backup because that is how long a storm can last without sun and how long it can easily take OG& E to restore service. From the beginning, my instructions were for a system that would support the essential needs of my house off grid, using OG&E power only as needed for extra uses. This system's batteries are drained after one night on the at minimum consumption - no furnace or AC, much less any non essential appliances.
I am pricing backup propane generators which seems to be the only real solution and expect the company to cover this cost to meet their ongoing representations. This still leaves me with a net metering system that doesn't include backup of my HVAC, but which can't seem to be corrected.
Sincerely,

On August 30th another attempt was made to communicate with the *************** Attorney. The original contract was sent and the offer of the appropriate refund was proposed. To this point, we have not received confirmation of receiving the email or an acceptance of the refund offer.
Originally, we were contacted by several of the family members about getting the refund sent to them in their respective name. It was explained every time that we could not do that but if the estate attorney would contact us, we could release the refund to the estate attorney.
We are unsure what else we should be doing at this time.

Since the time of installation we have struggled to get any assistance on how to operate our system. We have tried to contact them repeatedly. They did eventually send a tech out to look at our system and was told a part needed replaced, was told they had it fixed enough to use u til the part came in. Was told they would come replace the part once they received it. Has been months with no word from them. When we call, no one answers, when leaving voicemails, no one returns them. Overall I feel that we were taken advantage of. They were quick to take our money, but once they installed the system we were no longer a priority.Business Response

I want to apologize for this situation escalating to this level of concern. Upon receipt of this claim, I had our team reach out to the Homeowner to figure out how we have missed the opportunity to service his system. We have 23 people that work in the office and our voicemail system is documented and received by various departments within the office, but we are putting in additional checkpoints to prevent any oversight in the future. I think the homeowner was possibly calling either an old tracking number that was used to track the incoming source of the call or an old employee, but either way. It is concerning, being one of the owners, that we have a customer that was looking for a service call and couldn't get a hold of us.
We have reached out and made contact with the homeowner. We have confirmed with him that there will be a service crew coming out on Monday to get his system diagnosed and running.
