Business Name: ************* Business Address: ********************************* Date of Transaction: June 30, 2025 Amount Charged: $758.36 Complaint:On June 30, 2025, I was charged $758.36 by the ************* location on *********** in *****, ********. Upon reviewing the invoice, my husband and I noticed that we were charged nearly a 200% markup on the parts used, which is excessive and far above standard retail pricing. Additionally, we were charged for half an hour of labor to perform a spark plug replacement, which was part of a larger servicethe valve cover gasket replacement. Since the spark plugs had to be removed during that repair, we believe this charge constitutes double billing for labor already covered in the main service. The following day, my husband visited the location to address the $350 in what we believe were unjustified or excessive charges. Unfortunately, staff informed him there was nothing they could do.We feel misled and taken advantage of by this pricing and billing practice. As consumers, we expect fair and transparent chargesespecially for automotive work where trust is critical. We are seeking a refund of the approximate $350 in overcharges or an appropriate adjustment to reflect fair market pricing and labor practices.Desired Resolution:Partial refund of approximately $350 due to excessive markup and duplicate labor charges.

Customer picked up vehicle on 6/30/25 at ******. Customer called back next morning indicating he had a relative who works in the auto repair industry and could have done the repair at a different price saving customer money. Customer was explained the price is standard industry pricing and what he had agreed to pay was an experienced technician performing repairs as well as the 2-year warranty on OEM equivalent parts installed. Customer was quite verbal about the price he had agreed upon 3 times initially.

I have reviewed the business response and even though I feel like there was no resolution there is honestly no point in fighting with them to try to get my money back. I just know now for the future to never use them again and to never send business their way.

      Hi Eli,

Here is the most current update I left on the Tate Boys website https://maps.app.goo.gl/As4pcM4hamQLaKoQ6

I have not had any luck resolving this issue. My car is still not working. At this point I would like a refund, so I can use that towards getting a new car.

Thank you for keeping me up to date.

      Update 5/7/2025:
No more response from Tate Boys. Car is still pulling off the road. Apparently they are not interested in resolving the problem. I will keep updating. Need to look for options, small claim courts or lawyer.

      Update 5/2/2025 - 1 pm:
The same manager, Juan Hernandez, that caused me the issues with the car to start with, called me trying to make excuses and wanting to work on the price for the new repairs they suggested. This is not acceptable. I told him to call my husband to discuss further. I was expecting a call from the regional manager to solve this problem which is obviously not happening. I want my money back, so I can take it to another shop or have he problem fixed by them since they caused the problem. The car was not drifting before they worked on it. They keep wanting to find things to fix. Again, would I have know all this, I would have gotten a new car and not invested in repairs. Or I would have taken it to my regular shop for a second opinion.

      Update 5/2/2025 - 9:30 am:
I was supposed to be contacted within 24-48 hours. Nobody has gotten back to me. I had to call their complaint department again (877-201-6586). I was told they would check with the district manager again.

      4/30/2025:
I do not recommend Tate Boys on 8121 S Yale, Tulsa. This was the first and last time.

After replacing Michelin Defender tires, bought at Discount Tires after 40000 miles and worn tires again after only 20000 miles, I wanted to find out what the problem was and went to Tate Boys on S Yale.

They replaced all tires with suggested new Kumho tires and did a front wheel alignment. They said replacing front brakes and struts and re-aligning would take care of the drifting of the car that started immediately after the first visit. But the same problem with dangerous drifting continued after the repairs.

I took the manager on a ride to experience the drifting. After another inspection yesterday, they now suggested replacing subframe parts/bushings for another 2,300 dollars after I already spend $2,800 on tires, breaks, struts, and alignment.

They should have seen all of that the first time they inspected the car and put in the struts if that was the actual problem. At this point I don't even know if struts were needed. I had the car in for an inspection with RC Auto in July 2024 as the car was about to be paid off to see what repairs might be coming. Other than the front bakes, none of this was an issue mentioned. Neither when I had an oil change in January and 10 point inspection with my usual dealership.

My husband went in to pick the car for me and told them he did not appreciate them taking advantage of a woman and putting his wife in danger.

My guess is they are trying to get you a couple thousand dollars at a time. Since I do not want to spend more money and time exploring, I am now forced to finance a new vehicle.

If anything, I can recommend RC Auto and Mainor Ford Bristow. I should have went to my usual places and now wished I had. Live and learn.

      More Information...

      Update 5/15/2025:

I never heard back from anyone. Meanwhile I took it to another shop today. I found out that the wheel alignment was not done correctly and damaged the front lower control arms and joints which need to be replaced now.

Again, the problem did not exist before they did the alignment. Then they talked me into struts which I don't know if I really needed them. Then they wanted to replace sub-frame parts which the other shop today told me do not need replacing. So they would have replaced more parts without correcting the real issues.

They should refund me the money for the repairs since I need to get this repaired now. The least they could do.

I have been calling Tates Boys customer complaint line several times by now. 5/2/2025, 5/20/2025, 5/29/2025. Every time I am told my message has been sent to the district manager and vice president and someone would get back to me. Nobody has. I want at least be reimbursed for the money I had to pay to get their mistake fixed.

Also, I am not getting any response from the BBB. What would be the timeline on that? Just wondering.

      Thanks!

      Petra Allen

On Jan 29th, 2025, It appears that Mr. ****** visited this store for repairs with admitted knowledge that there was no reverse.  The then store manager over the phone told Mr. ****** to park on the side of the shop and would be easy to push the vehicle since there was no reverse in it.  Mr. ****** parked in front of the building which has a decline from the crown of the road.  Mr. ****** came in and a sales associate not knowing the situation said that with no reverse we would not be able to work on the vehicle.  From there the situation got rough and the then store manager got involved and tried to heal the conflict.  Mr. ****** did not want to proceed and left.

I took in my 2014 mini ****** turbo for an oil change. Drove it to work in *****, On my way back home the hot light came on on dash so I pulled over at the Dollar General in between ************ and *****. All the antifreeze had leaked out and oil was dripping on the pavement. Had it towed back to ***** downtown ************. They determined that the person that changed the oil did not reconnect the antifeeze/coolant line that runs in front of the oil filter. When oil filter was changed, coolant line was not reconnected so the motor overheated. ***** had the car towed to VAP auto in ***** to be repaired. ***** said they would take care of the motor and get the car back on the road and *************** got involved and wanted to total the motor and put a salvaged motor in it. Note there was nothing wrong with this car until this oil change and the motor only had 60K miles. ***** further damage was determined to be done all the way down to the pistons, tates insurance wanted to total my car and not pay for the additioanl work based on the value of the vehicle. I signed a release from insurance after VAP auto said it would be a couple of hundered dollars out of my pocket to take care of the additional costs that insurance wouldnt pay for. Come to find out that wasnt all that needed to be done, by the time everything was done I owed an additional $8000 to VAP over and above what *************** paid since I didit let them total my car out, all for a $50 oil change! I had to take out a loan on my Jeep to pay VAP auto and I am now strapped for money! I dont care what the value of the car was based on what work needed to be done on the motor. I completely expected them to fix my motor whatever the cost based on my car being in perfect condition before the oil change! The cost to fix the motor should of had nothing to do with it. This was my transporation and they wanted to total my car, make me buy another car, loan, tag, tax, etc. THIS WAS NOT RIGHT ***** SCREWED ME OVER!

To Whom It May ******************* matter was handed off to our insurance company. The insurance company wanted to total the vehicle, but **** didnt. She accepted the amount they gave towards the repairs and approved the shop to go above and beyond what insurance was giving her. The customer states that she signed a release with the insurance company and that VAP told her it would only be a few hundred dollars more than the insurance settlement. The customer made their own decision to go above what would be originally covered.

      Sincerely,

      Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:   Thats not quite the story. ***** manager took upon himself to send the car to VAP AUTO shop without ***** approval and he said the cost would be taken care of since it was their fault, disregarding what insurace would or would not do. ***** admitted compete fault and **** owed over $17K on the car at her bank and insurance was not going to give her $17K for the car to pay it off and then pay for tag and tax for another car, thats ridiculous. She paid for an oil change and nothing was wrong with her car until they changed her oil. ***** ins would not give her $17K for the car when the book value per insurance was only a little over $11K. She got screwed by taking her car to Tates to get an oil change due to their negligence at no fault of hers no matter what insurance was going to pay or not pay. You dont take a car somewhere and then lose it becasue of an oil change. Tates over above the insurance company should of paid for her car to be fixed. What is everyone not understanding here? Insurance wanted to total her car but not pay her loan off and not pay for the tag and tax cost to get another car of the same make and model and year. Serioulsy?! Her car was in mint condition before it was taken in to Tates and insurance has nothing to do with it b ased on their s**** up! They f'kd her out of her car over an oil change that they screwed up! Everyone is blind if they think ***** did the right thing with their insurance company when they did not. She should of only been out the money for the oil change, not another car! Insurance was put aside and the manager told her they would fix her car no matter what the cost! The release like I said before was signed understanding it would only cost an additional $200 to fix her car at that given time since she needed her vehicle and then that fell apart after they said more was wrong with it so insusrance washed their hands of it and ***** didnt want to pay any out of their own pocket to take care of her car like they were supposed too over and above insurance like a good business owner would when its their fault. She was used and abused and cheated out of her car due to a $50 oil change, you know it and I know it. You have caused her mental anguish, stress, and an additonal payment of $400 per month to take out a loan to pay for the additional work done on the car to completly repair the motor! TATES IS AT TOTAL FAULT! TOTALLY NEGLINENT! What was she supposed to do if insurance was not paying off her loan of over $17K? That $11K offered was worthless! **** still would not of had a car unless it was paid off at the bank and another one purchased! The service manager at the store told her in person they would take care of her car no matter what the cost sinice they fried her motor over an oil change.

I resently had an oil change at **** Boys in ************ ********. Everything seemed to go well until I reviewed my bill. At the bottom of my statement it reads These Parts And/Or Services Were Declined by the Customer: Free Alignment Check, Air Filter, Cabin Air Filter. My complaint is that I was Never asked about ANY of these things and they sent me away with the DIRTY filters! Still there. The other issue was that my tire pressure sensor light came on just a few miles down the road. I have always had great service from them in the past but this is unacceptable.

This happened Saturday october 22nd, at Tate Boys in bartlesville oklahoma on **** SE Washington blvd. i went in for an alignment on my truck and they said i needed a new ball joint for my passenger side. So i had them put it in and after i left it was still pulling to one side so it didn't fix the issue. i called them and notified them about this and they said they could try to realign it again and take the new ball joint out and put the old one back in and give me a full refund. so i drove back again monday and they said that they didn't have the old ball joint. i called them today October 25th and spoke with Ricky i believe the manager. He was a bit rude and unprofessional and said that they don't even do refunds on ball joints like that, then why was i told you do? He also asked why i was putting more front end parts on it and asked if there were more issues with the front end, even though that's their job to find all the issues they come across and report them to me, which they did NOT. All i'm wanting is a full refund and it to be done with.

8/4/22:I went in to get the oil changed and told them I had two tires that might need fixed. When finished with the car, they told me all four tires were "good to go!" Not even a month later I took the car back because one of tires I asked them to check was completely flat that morning and they tell me I need to replace two tires. The exact same two tires I had just asked them to check and they said were, "good to go!" I asked them to just replace the one that was flat and said I would be back later to replace the second one. They did not replace or fix the flat tire. They didn't even bother to put air in it. They replaced the other tire, didn't rotate them leaving the new tire on the front end so now the car pulls to the right. They charged me $130 for the tire that should have been free with TPP that we paid for when we bought the tires. The tire was going flat because they didn't replace the valve stem. 10/14: My husband took the car to get the tire I asked them to replace two different times and the Store Manager was rude, disrespectful, childish, and downright unprofessional. He refused to fix the flat tire and said that even with the TPP it would cost $51 to have the tire replaced. He ultimately took the flat tire off just to put the same flat tire back on. He threatend my husband, told him to come back after closing and he'd be waiting. They tried to say TTP didn't cover the tire because it was bought in 2018..I didn't even buy the car until 2019 and just bought the tires 2 years ago. My husband was going to buy another tire to replace the flat that isn't any good now until they found our account (that for some reason they couldn't pull up) and could see when we bought the tires for sure but the manager refused to sell it to him. 3 different times they just us drive out of their shop with our 8year old son on unsafe tires. Reached out several times but have yet to hear anything back. Been loyal 10 years. Think I'll throw my Tate Boy's credit card away.

Went there to buy new tires, after they pulled the car out of the garage and I looked at it, the wheels were damaged. I believe they switched wheels with a set that had been curbed and damaged.

On Friday, August 19th, my sons father took my car in to be serviced. This included getting new air filters, checking the brake pads. I also had a nail in my right rear tire, which this is key. my sons father was told, I needed to ditch the rear two tires. They would move the front tires to the back, and put new tires on the front. I consented. Their paperwork also stated this plan.
So imagine my surprise when I have 2 tires on the front, and the same bad tires on the back. This Tate Boys in Catoosa trashed my good front tires, one being only 4 months old, and kept my bad tires. I did NOT consent to this. When it was brought to their attention today they stated: we will get it fixed. They PATCHED the nail whole, when they were told two replacement tires OR my old good tires are needed to fix this. Instead, they are going to make me end up replacing all 4 tires because they cannot fix THEIR mistakes.
If this is not fixed, I will either dispute that portion of the charges, or I will take this to small claims. They are liars, as they knew I wanted replacements OR my old good tires back, and they patched it instead. They checked all 4 tires and were the ones to state my front tires are good. They refuse to actually talk about the issue, and insist they will fix it but they did not find a solution of equal value to what they did. A free patch job does not equal me needing 2 ADDITIONAL new tires now when I had 2 perfectly fine tires before.

BBB Business Profiles are provided solely to assist you in exercising your own best judgment. BBB asks third parties who publish complaints, reviews and/or responses on this website to affirm that the information provided is accurate. However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.
