On the evening of 9/28/2024 at around 9:30 PM, we received a call from the ***** ****** Department to say that they had our 16 year old daughter, ******* ******* on a street in Salem, OH. Our daughter drove onto a curb, and the car behind them called the police. Police arrived to assess and address the situation, and they called us. Unbeknownst to us, the Emergency Medical Transport Inc. also arrived on the scene. When we arrived on the scene, we spoke to the police and the police spoke to us and released our daughter to our custody. EMT Inc asked us if we would like service, and we signed refusal. The police did not cite her, and there was not damage to the car or property. We took our daughter and the car, and drove home.

In November, we received a bill from this EMT service for $298. There was certainly no discussion of a charge or cost on September 28th, when we signed that we did not want their service. To charge a family this type of money after the fact, without notification on the evening in question, for a service that was not needed, let alone used, is preposterous. I can not justify paying this kind of money for a service that was not called for by us or used by us, and furthermore by a service that scans police calls and arrives on the scene of any fender-bender and will get $300 regardless of their level of need or use. Please help us to rectify this as the company now has issued a $9.11 late fee, and sent us to a collections agency who ruled against us. Thank you.

We were sent to this  accident by the county 911 system.

What was billed was an emergency response fee not a medical treatment fee.

This is covered by implied consent.

We are not tax supported, but rather only fees collected for our services.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I am again requesting this "fee" be waived or removed. At no point during the interaction were we informed that a fee would be assessed simply for them being present, and a "fee" in the amount of $300 is excessive. A fee is $25, or some nominal amount, such as when someone doesn't show at a doctor's office, not $300. The lack of transparency is concerning, considering we were cooperative, respectful and made a clear, informed decision to decline care.

We understand the importance of emergency services; however, billing individuals who neither requested nor received treatment, without prior notice, is problematic. The justification of "implied consent" does not apply in this situation, as consent was never given and, in fact, expressly declined at the scene. Implied consent applies to situations where the individual is unconscious or unable to communicate. We believe the charge is unjust and request it be dismissed.

      Regards,

Was involved in a not a fault car accident on 10/28/2023. Emergency Medical Transport Inc was dispatched to the scene I refused treatment or any service they was trying to provide. Fast forward 6 months I receive a bill for $306.96 so I call to dispute and explain their provided nothing and I'm told it has already went to collections and if I want to dispute the bill I have to write the owner of the company and was told it's up to him if I'm still going to be charged.

      Business Response

      Date: 04/23/2024

This is an Emergency Response fee, that the at fault parties' insurance typically pays.  This was a result of a 911 call to our service to respond and treat and transport if required.  This is a usual and customary charge for Emergency Services in many communities. Had the complainant simply submitted this to the at-fault insurance company it would never have been turned over to collections.  It appears that the bills were just ignored.  We incur fuel costs, equipment wear and tear as well as risk to both our crew and the public when responding to these calls for service.  We have no other mechanism to be reimbursed in these cases for our costs.

This company claimed that they transported me from **** **** ******* *********** **** *o S** ********* ******* ****** ****** ******* **** Campus) on 3/19/2023. On 3/19/2023 at 11:29 pm the hospital called my daughter and asked who she was and if I was her mother. They then asked for verification of my date of birth. Once my daughter verified those things, hospital administrator asked when she would come to pick me up as I was brought in after having wandered around on the northside of town. While my daughter was on the phone with the hospital contact, we were BOTH sitting at our dining room table eating a late supper. My daughter stated that it was impossible that they had me under their care as we were both eating supper at the table. The person hung up the phone. Two months later, a bill was sent to my home from Emergency Medical Transport for services rendered on 3/19/2023. After several phone calls to the hospital, it was verified that no bill had been generated by the hospital because they were notified by my daughter that the person they had in their emergency room was not me. I also was told to convey to the EMT service that they needed to reach out to the hospital to correct any financial errors as the EMT service had gotten the information from the hospital in order to send a bill. I initially spoke with a ******** at Emergency Medical Transport and then eventually spoke with a ******* her manager. I also reached out to ********* as Emergency Medical Transport billed medicare for services that I did not receive. Medicare retrieved those funds back. I am still getting bills from Emergency Medical Transport as of 1/29/2024 and then again as of 3/4/2024. No services were rendered to me at all in 2023 by this company. I do not want any further contact with this company, I do not want any more bills generated or services I did not receive and I do not want my credit negatively impacted. Please help me!
