We hired Hervas Remodeling upon the recommendation of our Home Owner’s Insurance, ***** ****, due to a house fire. The fire was in November of ‘22 and we didn’t get back in our home until the end of July ‘23. A 3 month job took 8 months and the majority of the work was sub contracted. The workmanship was sub par. Our walls were plaster and lathe. It was replaced with 1/2 inch drywall - needless to say, nothing matched up properly. Their solution was shims behind the trim around windows and doors. The trim around the floor just doesn’t match up. I have drywall around windows with gaps, walls that aren’t “live in” finished (waves, globs of mud that was not sanded), a fireplace that has unfinished edges, paint on my hard wood floors, damage to my hard wood floors, etc. I could go on. However, We decided to settle and move on. After all, why would we want a company to repair/fix/replace these things when the didn’t complete the job right the first time. Think long before hiring this company.

    Hervas Remodeling, LLC Response

Hervas Remodeling was hired by *** ******* to repair her home after a house fire. Fire repairs frequently involve the county’s building department which always adds time to the repairs due to inspections and code upgrades to the home. The original contract was signed by Mrs. ******* mid-January 2023 for Hervas Remodeling to begin work. This project ended up tripling in size from the original scope adding to the length of repairs and Hervas Remodeling did not receive their first payment to get this job started until early March 2023. Towards the end of the project the homeowner also added additional work to the scope that was approved by her insurance company adding more length to this project. Mrs. ******* signed a completion form, stating she was happy with the work, at the end of July 2023, but we did not receive the final payment until the end of December 2023 after several requests and attempts to close out this file. Hervas Remodeling filed a lien after Mrs. ******* ignored several requests for payment. The lien has been released since we received payment. All drywall and plaster work was discussed with Mrs. ******* before we began work. There are very few contractors that still install new plaster and we do not have that option in house. The homeowner chose to use drywall, with over a $20,000.00 credit for Hervas Remodeling to use drywall, rather than plaster. All of the trim that was replaced matches up better than the existing trim in the home. The framing in Mrs. *******’s home is not straight; the house is an old farmhouse so there was a struggle to get the stained trim work to line up with the existing framing in the home. Hervas Remodeling took three separate trips to address any issues the homeowner had with workmanship for punch out items at the end of the project. The gaps around windows are on walls that Hervas Remodeling did not do any drywall work on. The hardwood floors were not paid to be refinished by the insurance company, but Hervas Remodeling cleaned them to the best of their ability over multiple trips. These floors were scratched before the project began and since we were not paid to refinish the floors we could rectify the existing damages. Mrs. ******* took the fireplace mantel down and reinstalled it. Hervas Remodeling was not paid to do anything with the fireplace mantel, and unfortunately it appears to have broken when it was taken off the wall by the homeowner. After several attempts to make this homeowner happy, we decided to settle and give her more money back over her credit for using drywall. With the money off, Hervas Remodeling felt the homeowner could get this work done to their satisfaction. Or if the homeowner still has concerns about the plaster meeting with the drywall, we are happy to re-skim the walls using the $20,000.00 plaster credit she received. Mrs. *******’s insurance company found her difficult to work with and would approve additional work rather than arguing with her towards the end of the project. She was dropped by her homeowner’s insurance company during the repair process. Both Hervas Remodeling and the insurance company found Kim to be a very difficult customer to work for and work with. The most difficult we have had in our 20 years of business.
