Was given an emailed quote to get a roof replaced by JBL roofing salesman, Kyle. Was quoted at $10,000 and opened a claim for insurance based off of ****** suggestions. Once I was denied the insurance claim, I was ready to move forward with the complete replacement of the roof shingles. New price was $12,750 now!!! At this point it had been approximately 6-7 weeks and at no point was I notified that the original estimate was incorrect. This is after **** being on the roof approximately three times. A few weeks prior to this when submitting part of the claim to my insurance Jbl Roofing submitted a quote to the insurance that was $10,980 that did not include what they had originally missed, (rolled roofing). Still never conveyed to me Even though they knew that the original quote was incorrect! So not only is it going to cost me a denied insurance claim, but I’m having trouble finding a contractor thats reasonably priced now when the only reason I went with Jbl Roofing was the original quote of 10,000. I have spoke to ****, the receptionist, of Jbl Roofing multiple times and she let me know that they cannot honor the original quote or even the second quote of $10980 (which i was willing to pay). I have an emailed quote showing the original $10,000 price to back this up. If I was quoted the eventual price of $12,750 originally, I would’ve never initiated the claim nor went with this company as I had quotes lower than this early this year that are no longer valid since we are in peak season. I gave Jbl Roofing several attempts at honoring the $10k or even the $10,980 price and was willing to compromise and pay that, however, they wouldn’t even honor that price! I understand people make mistakes but when O pit my trust in a company, I expect them to hold up their end of the bargin. **** said they would lose money but without starting the roof, I have already had my insurance raised and still no Roofing contractor! So Im the one paying the price for their mistakes!Business Response

We are sorry to hear that Mr. ******* is dissatisfied with his experience and appreciate the opportunity to respond and clarify.
The initial estimate of $10,000.00 was for the 14 squares of the roof, that is the measurement of the shingled portion of the roof, and included an extended warranty. At that time, it did not include the 9 square feet of flat (rolled) roofing, which was unfortunately overlooked in the initial assessment. This was a mistake on our part, and we sincerely apologize for the confusion that caused.
The second estimate of $10,980.00 was submitted to his insurance company and also covered only the shingled portion—again, not including the flat roof. As was explained multiple times, the flat roof portion was not eligible for coverage through his insurance claim due to the absence of storm-related damage.
The final estimate of $12,750.00, which we provided directly to Mr. *******, included the full scope of work: the shingled roof, the flat roof, and the extended warranty. We made every effort to explain the differences in scope and pricing between the estimates. At no point was a contract signed, and all pricing provided was in the form of non-binding estimates pending insurance resolution.
As the office manager, I (****) spoke with him several times and explained this thoroughly. Mr. ******* made it clear that unless we completed the entire roof—including the flat portion—for $10,980.00, he would leave negative reviews. Despite this, we continued to offer assistance and remained willing to work with your insurance company in good faith. As far as the length of time it took to go through this process, this was because of Mr. *******s insurance company. Mr. *******s roof was much older than what he initially told his field rep and his policy did not allow for complete coverage of a roof replacement based on the age of his roof. The process of working with insurance companies can be timely.
He also mentioned having a separate quote from another contractor for $16,500.00, but indicated that he was unwilling to proceed with us on principle, even though our complete quote of $12,750.00 was significantly lower. We even offered to complete just the shingled portion for the originally quoted price, but he declined unless we included the flat roof at no additional cost.
We understand the frustration and respect the decision to go in a different direction. However, we stand by the accuracy of our final estimate and the fairness of the pricing provided. It was substantially lower than other companies because we were aware of the error we made by not including the additional square footage of the flat roof portion in the initial estimate. We strive to be transparent and thorough, and we regret that this situation did not meet your expectations.
Sincerely,**** **********

After a windstorm in May 2023 JBL detailed my neighborhood with fliers indicating that a windstorm occurred and they would provide a free inspection to repair my roof. I had them come and provide the inspection, which indicated that my roof had enough wind damage to merit an insurance claim. They helped me with the insurance adjustor and the claim was approved, which was much appreciated. In speaking with the sales person (****** *******), I informed him that I had a major concern that our house had had a bat removal and proofing done previously, and I was very concerned that everything would be restored to the original condition. He told me in no uncertain terms that everything would be restored to the original condition and that I wouldn't have to worry about the bats. After they completed the job, the bats returned and I asked the exterminators to inspect and they said all of the bat proofing - including ridge guard had been completely removed and not replaced and that it would all need to be replaced at a total cost of $14,000. After engaging the company they said I didn't have that in the contract. I'm not a subject matter expert, my salesperson assured me it would be taken care of and I shook his hand. They have declined to rectify the situation after stringing me along for months while I have bats in my house. The bottom line - I absolutely would not trust them, they will say anything to win the business. They claim to be a smaller family owned business that does things based on values, but they are not. I asked to speak with the owner to seek a resolution and was never contacted. This company isn't about doing things correctly, it's about making their next sale. In my opinion, avoid at all costs.Business Response

In response to this complaint I would first like to mention that I have spoken to Mr. ****** several times via phone calls and text messages and emails starting May 15th when this was first brought to my attention. I reached out to Nationwide, his insurance company on his behalf and I filed a claim with our insurance company that was denied. To say we strung you along is unfair. The initial conversation Mr. ****** stated that the exterminator that came out after the roof was installed said the bats were getting to the home through an area of soffit that was bent, he sent sent me photos of that area. I explained the soffit is not considered part of the roofing system and was not part of the work that we were contracted to do. On the roof prior to our install there were existing bat guards on old box vents, we removed the box vents and covered those areas with wood and shingles therefore eliminating an area for bats to get in. We added two power vents that each has wire mesh around the exterior that prevents anything from getting in through them. As far as additional guards on the ridge vent we do not install those, those are to be installed by an exterminator. With installation of bat guards you negate the manufacturers warranty because you are drilling into the shingle. Because the roof had storm damage the replacement cost was covered by the homeowners insurance company, there was no coverage for the installation of any additional guards and these were not included in the insurance company’s scope of loss that we used to satisfy the claim. Unfortunately the contract makes no mention of bat guards, which again is not a service we offer at JBL Roofing and Construction. Lastly, I willingly provided all the necessary information to our own insurance company and filed a claim that was fully investigated and denied. We were not found responsible by our insurance company for the bats returning to this home as this clearly has been a long standing issue that was a problem before JBL Roofing and Construction put a new roof on the home. I have included the contract and the insurance scope for reference.
Thank you~

I am rejecting this response because:
It's very simple. I didn't have a bat problem before you replaced my roof, now I do have bats directly related to the work you did. I was very candid and told your salesperson I was concerned about the bats returning. He assured me that would not be a problem. It's integrity. I'm a business owner, if my team makes a promise I deliver on it. Do what you say you're going to do. You can make all the excuses you want and say it wasn't in scope. Your team made a promise, and you didn't live up to what you said you would do.

Good Afternoon,
I understand the frustration and did not hesitate to file a claim with our insurance company. Our insurance company found that we were not liable for the damages the bats caused after a thorough investigation. I will reiterate that as a company JBL Roofing does not install bat guards, you are responsible for the replacement of the bat protection. Bat guards are not considered part of the roofing system and are not covered by your homeowners policy. Therefore you would have to pay out of pocket for them, also your insurance claim for the roof replacement did not allocate funds for bat guards so that is your responsibility to pay for those to be replaced. We were not contracted to install the bat guards and the contracted total did not include bat guards. I also want to reiterate that you had bat guards installed on your home prior to the roof being replaced, that would indicate an existing bat problem. Most homes do not have bat guards unless they were an issue in the past. The box vents on your roof that had the guards on them were removed and covered up with plywood and shingles eliminating those points of entry for the bats. Lastly with or without the bat guards on the roof you would still have the issue of the bats getting in through the soffit, soffit is not part of the roofing system and we were not contracted to fix or replace that because it was not part of your insurance claim. This is a matter for your homeowners insurance provider Nationwide. Nationwide informed me, when I reached out on your behalf that you would need to open a new claim. When you contacted Nationwide you were trying to add this to your already open storm damage claim, according to the claim handler and that is why you were advised by them to call us. Your roofing system was installed properly and up to building code standards and this is not an issue caused by faulty workmanship or defective materials. I would like to add that the owner himself has tried reaching out to you and has not gotten a call back.
Thank you~

I am putting my complaint on hold temporarily. I spoke with the owner of the business this morning, and he is going to resubmit to his insurance and handle my concerns personally. If this is covered under insurance, or paid for by the business I'll revoke my complaint.
Thanks,

On 3-18-16 I entered into a contract with JBL Roofing for roof and siding repairs due to Wind Damage. Ventilation system in the attics were also changed during this time from gable end vents to ridge vent (amount $16,332.58 Filed with State Farm Insurance. 3-17-16. December 2022 It was brought to our attention that both of our attics were holding on to moisture and mold has formed all over all walls. In attempting to uncover the issue it was identified that the changing of the ventilation system in 2016 was not properly done and the original soffit vents were packed full of insulation allowing the house to not ventilate/ breath properly for years!! The soffit vents had to be open for air flow to allow the new ventilation system to properly work but this was never checked or verified operational in 2016 along with baffles installed to direct the air flow. None of this was done correctly by JBL Roofing in 2016.
We contacted JBL Roofing and the owner, ***** ***** on Dec 6th 2022. We discussed the plan to address this issue. ***** as well as Mike realized the issues were being created from improper installation of the ventilation system from contractor negligence - the house was not able to circulate air. ***** contacted Iron Dog Inspectors to inspect the attics and mentioned he would cover the costs. On January 20 2023 Iron Dog Inspectors identified that due to improper installation of the new ventilation system and it not being operational for years the attics walls were polluted with mold. No financial assistance from JBL at all. He actually stopped answ****g our phone calls once the problem was identified and took no responsibility for the issue created due to contractor negligence. There have been many health issues stemming from the amount of mold my family had to endure due to this negligence. We are still dealing with this on going issue. All of the exterior walls of this house have been damaged due to this negligent work.Customer Answer

This is the second complaint we have with this company and the work they did. When replacing our roof and siding, JBL unfortunately damaged (shot siding nails) down our main drain stack on the exterior wall from the upstairs bathroom. Its had multiple siding nails down the stack in a perfect row. Over time this has created multiple holes in the pipe dumping water and everything from the drain into our interior walls. It has been identified that there is damaged to our exterior wall as well due to the many leaks in stack. We are currently work with our insurance company as well as a remediation company and plumber to once again fix the issues created by JBL Roofing. I have contacted the owner but still have not received a return phone call

Dear ****** ******,
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention as this is the first I have heard of these issues you are having. Never once was a called made into the office of JBL Roofing and Construction, I would be the one to help coordinate any repairs or warranty issues that may need addressed. Our team works to handle issues in a timely manner. My understanding is that you have been reaching out to the owner of the company on his personal line. As for most of us, numbers that are not recognized sometimes go unanswered, especially out of state numbers. I may also add that ***** *********, who was the contracted party has not made any attempt to reach out to our main office. We are sorry for any inconvenience that you have experienced because of this. Just two days prior to filing this complaint you spoke with the owner on his personal line, I think that needs to be brought to attention as you stated in this complaint that he has stopped answ****g your calls.
Per the original contract in 2016 it is clearly stated that you have a 2 year warranty of full replacements. That was signed 4/2/2016. Your warranty, which includes labor and workmanship expired on 4/2/2018. I have attached a copy of that here. With that being said JBL Roofing has been out to your property several times to address issues unrelated to our work since then at no additional charge, this was coordinated by the owner. In reference to this complaint, it appears that the insulation was installed improperly impeding air flow from the properly installed soffit vents. JBL Roofing did not touch your insulation nor are we responsible for the any damage that was caused by the lack of air flow. We are not sure as to when that insulation was installed. With all of that being said we have spoken to you and made arrangements to do repairs in areas that the mold has damaged in the time since you have made this complaint and that appears to be a satisfactory solution for you. At JBL Roofing and Construction we honor all of our work, even 8 years later. If you have any questions please feel free to call the office at ************. ext. 2.
Thank you~

Just wanted to say thanks for the response to this matter at hand. I would personally like to clear up a few items within the response from JBL. While this is true that we were contacting the owner ***** ***** on his personal line that is the one and only way to date that we have always reached out even during this construction in 2016. We also contacted one of the main estimators who knew about this ongoing situation and had our numbers as well. He mentioned multiple times that Mr ***** would be in contact and like I said never was. It wasn't until after I filed this complaint with the BBB that we were contacted within an hour by Mr ***** and discussed the ongoing issue.
As **** mentioned in her response from JBL, no one checked or ensured that the soffit vents were operational once JBL changed the ventilation system in the our house in 2016. This is the EXACT reason for our complaint - This house was built in 1978 with gable ends vents to control the ventilation system and has original 1978 insulation. It did not matter if the soffit vents were operational back then due the cross flow of air in the attic when the original gable end vent system was installed. In 2016 JBL closed off those gable end vents which made it imperative that the soffit vents were open and operational due to the new system they were installing. As per **** and to our suspicion this was never checked or even discussed with the homeowner. Changing the ventilation system to the ridge vent was fine, but not ensuring that it would work deemed it pointless. In order for a ridge vent to properly ventilate a house the soffit vents have to be open for intake of air and baffles installed. As JBL mentioned in the response they DID NOT ensure the ventilation system they installed was going to work properly. Our ventilation system should NOT have been changed if they were NOT going to make sure what they were installing functioned correctly. We have dealt with on going mold /moisture issues in the house due to the lack of ventilation caused by this.
As I stated to Mr *****, I would like to see the entire house redone or the money refunded in full that was paid in 2016 ($16,332.58). Also any out of pocket costs we have incurred dealing with this damage caused due to contractor negligence. As you will see from the pictures the exterior celetex has been completed damaged due to this lack of ventilation which caused mold and moisture to deteriorate the boards. We also would like to see all of the insulation replaced due to the fact it can house mold as well. Our entire family has been sick and suff****g for years and years with health issues stemming from this. We just want this addressed correctly and done right as it should been from the start. We put a lot of faith in the contractors we trust, we just hope they do the right thing.
I also wanted to mention we just found another issue stemming from the work completed in 2016. This company shot siding nails down our main drain stack from our upstairs bathroom. Over the years the nails have rusted out causing all materials/ matter from the drain to dispose into our interior walls. We are in the process of working to get this replaced with our plumber. Once again costing us out of pocket due to this company and the work completed in 2016. (I do have pictures and estimate but have no more attachments)
We have discussed both of these issues with the owner, ***** *****, and what we would like to have redone to remedy this mess but no work has been completed yet to date as we are waiting for the now plumbing issue to be dealt with. If you have any questions please feel free to reach to me
Thanks

I had my home roof repaired and shingled by JBL due to wind damaged and claimed on my home owners insurance in 2014. I was told recently by another company that there are loose shingles that need to be retacked. I called JBL and informed them of the other companies findings. I spoke with either **** or *****, I don't recall, and they were rude and wanted nothing to do with rectifying my findings. Being JBL's work is less than 10 yrs I would hope it's still under warranty. I hate to have to pay another company to fix something that should be covered and done by JBL Roofing.Business Response

I spoke with Mrs. ******* this morning, as the office manger I am the only person to answer the JBL Roofing & Construction phone and she did not actually ever reach out to JBL directly. If she would have actually contacted JBL Roofing we would have taken care of this immediately. She had reached out to her previous salesman, he claims he has never spoken to her so I am not sure where the miscommunication is. I also pointed out that it clearly states on her contract that JBL Roofing will honor a 2 year labor warranty, I have provided a copy of that and highlighted that area. Therefore her warranty expired 7 years ago. With all of that being said someone is going out to her home immediately to asses her roof as we take pride in the quality of our work.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.I spoke with **** from JBL today. She was very polite and understanding of my mistake not seeing the 2 yr warranty on the 2014 contract. I did appreciate an employee worker coming out today. My husband and I did speak with an employee a few months back that was very rude. I have his business card. Of course he'll deny it but that's ok.
