My children's step mother provides insurance through Anthem and I provide insurance through Aetna. For the year 2024 Anthem the primary insurance per the birthday rule is the primary insurance. They have been primary through Anthem since 2013. Suddenly when my adult children have thousands of dollars in claims, Anthem decided for the year 2024 that my insurance through Aetna was now primary, even though they have never been primary. Anthem claims that when they call Aetna that Aetna states they are primary. I, my children have made multiple phone calls, each time Anthem reps will say okay we have updated the coordination of benefits. We tell the physicians and hospital they submit the claims and then Anthem will deny the claims for COB denials. This situation has caused stressed to my children who barely make over minimum wage. My son opted only for his step moms insurance to avoid this situation for 2025 which is sad. Anthem is a multi-million dollar company, one would think they have staff that understands what they are doing and fix this situation. The reasons I can only conclude are
      1. My children are native american and white. since they are not fully white they are treating my children like second class citizens.
      2. Anthem doesn't want to pay.
I would like to address this with an anthem employee that is located in the United States by calling Aetna with myself on the phone. please note that since this is a self funded plan I am not able to file a complaint to the KY department of Insurance. If I am not able to have this issue address I will retain a lawyer.
