    BBB files indicate that this business has several complaints concerning delays in delivery, poor customer service and refund issues. On July 14th, 2022, BBB submitted a written request to the company encouraging them to address the pattern of complaints. California Exodus detailed to the BBB their operations process and steps they are taking to improve customer service such as issuing refunds electronically, and making courtesy calls before and after the move. The BBB will continue to monitor this file

    In March 2022, it was brought to BBB’s attention that California Exodus was requesting individuals to remove negative reviews as a condition of resolving concerns described in the reviews. On June 22, 2022, BBB continued to receive similar requests and notified the business of our concern. On July 11, 2022,  BBB again addressed our concerns with the business and the potential consequences of similar requests in the future. In light of recent requests and the questions that this practice raises regarding the authenticity of reviews, BBB has removed all positive reviews posted as of June 22, 2022. Furthermore, BBB will not post positive reviews for California Exodus until such time as BBB is confident this practice is no longer a concern.

    Advertising Review:
    In March 2022, BBB contacted California Exodus Moving & Storage regarding claims in its advertising. 

    On its website, the business states "See why 1000's of families have trusted us to move them and their valuables for over 15 years."  According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the company's household goods moving authority was granted on November 17, 2021.  According to the BBB Code of Advertising, the primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. An advertisement as a whole may be misleading by implication, although every sentence separately considered may be literally true. In addition, Ohio law states that it shall be a deceptive act or practice to make any representations, claims or assertions of fact, whether orally or in writing, which would cause a reasonable consumer to believe such statements are true, unless the advertiser possesses or relies upon a reasonable basis in fact such as factual, objective, quantifiable, clinical or scientific data or other competent and reliable evidence which substantiates such representations.  The business did not provide the requested substantiation for the claim that it has moved "1000's of families."

    The business states on its website that "Our company is licensed; a factor guaranteeing you that your moving needs will be sorted by legitimate experts that are recognized by your state" and at its Facebook page "Whether you plan on moving a mansion or a one-bedroom to the next city, across the nation or into storage, we are well-staffed and equipped to make the move completely stress free."  As of July 2022, the business has told BBB that it moves consumers from California to other states but does not move consumers within the state of Ohio.  Household goods moving companies in California are required to be registered with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).  The Moving Guide document on California Exodus' website claims "From your first interaction with one of our certified moving consultants, to your last interaction with one of our pro certified movers." The business told BBB that it would be changing the statement to "From your first interaction with one of our certified moving consultants, to your last interaction with one of our professional movers."  To date, this statement has not been changed, nor has the business provided proof of these certifications or proof of current registration with the CPUC.

    Moving from California to Texas. Before the pick up date they quoted me $2000 after they loaded up everything they charged me $5700. The truck was all loaded up and they pretty much told me pay up or we'll just hold on to your stuff as collateral. I had to pay out of pocket at that time via check. It took them over 2 months to deliver my goods. On the day that we had the movers come to drop off. They left the fridge in front of the door because they were to lazy to move the fridge in. I had to move in the fridge with my wife on our own while trying to take care of 2 children. They tried to drop off ANOTHER CUSTOMERS BED (because we did not bring our previous bed due to it being old and will take up space we were going to buy a new bed once we moved). We said this isn't ours why are you dropping this off? They took it back but afterwards when we were unpacking we noticed boxes missing. Even if it was one or 2 that is bad but it was about half the boxes missing (I have a picture of the missing boxes). I want a refund or compensation for the goods that were in those missing boxes. I specifically wrote down what was in each box so that I knew what was missing. I tried contacting their customer service but only get horrible hold music and never spoke with anyone. Please let me know if there are any next steps that I may take.

    Cali Exodus Moving & Storage is an absolutely fraudulent company where my move with reference number CE4512399 was overcharged at the time of delivery than the agreed upon price at the time of pickup about which I was told that it will not change. On the day of delivery at an unexpected 2am time, I was charged extra for a shuttle fee before the delivery when no shuttle was used. Many of my significant belongings including a very large toolbox were lost which makes it obvious that they were stolen and others were carelessly broken and damaged by their movers who were literally throwing my items. After I filling and submitting a claim form for the lost, damaged items with all the details and evidence, Katie Cook from Customer Service responded after several months on the last day of claims processing deadline denying my claim with a wrong reason that section 2 of the claim form was not filled when it was actually completely filled. When I replied to her several times providing all reasoning about the claim being wrongly denied, called her and left her multiple VMs, she never responded. I never got my claim approved and I lost my money on my expensive belongings that were stolen and damaged in addition to being overcharged at the end while delivering with the threat that if the whole remaining overcharged amount doesn’t get paid, my items will not be delivered. The swindling people whom I interacted with who never responded to my email about my claim being wrongly denied were: • ** ****** Moving Consultant. • ******* ******* Moving Consultant. • ****, Pickup foreman. • *** ******, Assistant Operations Manager. • ***** ****, Customer Service manager. This company should be forced to shut down for its unfair practice and all its employees should be charged with severe monetary penalties for scamming people and sent to jail for a lifetime.
