February 6th, I took my laptop to Cleveland Heights PC because of some issues I was facing after seeing online that the place is advertised to have free diagnostics. For context, this is a very advanced laptop with higher than usual specs, which is what I need in my line of work. The issues I was facing was that sometimes it wouldn't start and shows an error code that means RAM failure and I explained all of that to Dominic on the 6th, and I explained that I tried replacing the battery and it didn't help and that Dell can help with diagnostics but it would take time which I cannot afford to lose, he was nice and said it'll take him a day to fix all issues, and that he'll take $120-$150 to fix it and if it's a problem he cannot resolve, he'll take $50 for his time. I specifically asked, what does this $120-$150 include, he answered everything, parts and anything needed to replace so I agreed and left the laptop and when he was filling out his paperwork and taking my info. he was not sure what to call the problem then he wrote down boot issue and told me I'll remember the rest. Please note that while talking he turned the computer on twice trying to see the error, it started up fine so it was only my words he took for the issue. On my way out he started talking about that this is such an expensive machine, which made me uncomfortable. After walking out, I went back in for a drop off slip when I realized he didn't give me anything and he seemed very bothered by my request, so I tried to lighten the mood by saying for in case you're not working tomorrow when I come pick it up. February 7th, 1 pm, Dominic calls, tells me he fixed the issue and the computer works perfectly now and proceeds to tell me that the problem was a bad RAM slot ( which is part of the motherboard and he cannot fix) and he fixed it by taking out one of the RAM sticks, then he asked if I ever looked at the RAMs and if I know what they looked like because he knows I opened the computer before, I didn't think much into it and answered "No", so he proceeded with saying that the RAM he removed might also be bad and that he'll take $120 for this fix. I told him I am at work, and we'll talk when I come in around 5. February 7th, 5:30 pm, I went in, started talking to Dominic about the issue and what’s wrong and whenever I questioned how come you said it maybe a bad RAM, he said I don’t know it might not work, I asked did you try it in the other good slot he would change the subject and try to distract me, which leads me to believe that the RAM stick he handed me is a replacement that he had around and that he took my perfectly fine 16 GB RAM. I then started talking about how he said over the phone it’s $120 and it should be $50 according to what he told me that day before, he started yelling it’s 120 and he kept raising his voice, I was intimidated but I kept trying to talk and told him that removing something didn’t fix my problem, he responded with screaming that’s your problem not mine, you came with a startup issue and I fixed it and starting fine now and you’re trying to cheat me off my hard earned money. I proceeded with being mindful of my tone with it won’t function the way I need it to, and I still need to go fix it, you told me $50 if you cannot fix it, he kept getting more aggressive and yelling so what are you going to do, not pay me? ( bare in mind my $2000 laptop was in his possession) I responded with I would never do that but I kept questioning how come you’re asking for $120 when that was including parts not for your time, he screamed that he never said that and that $120-$150 was for diagnostics and then he was going to quote me a price for the fix and he was getting too angry and changing everything he said and I was afraid, after all I was all alone in a shop with a man yelling at me. I told him I will pay, he said $120 cash, $129.6 card. I chose the card option and paid only to be able to leave the store with me and my laptop unharmed.
