I called ***'s Lawnmower Service on 4/8/22. I spoke to *** and told him I wanted an oil change, oil filter and mulching blades. He told me pick up was $89 but that the full deposit would be $135 which included the oil change. He also quoted me $20-$30 for the oil filter and $60-$75 for the mulching blades. He told me of no other fees or charges. On 4/12/22 I put down the deposit of $134 and *** came and picked up my Cub Cadet. Once at my home *** tried to turn on my lawnmower. He gave it about 1-2 seconds for the engine to turn over before he stated I also needed a new battery. It was running just fine for me. He said the battery I had was the wrong battery for my lawnmower. He quoted me $130 for a new battery. I decided to go ahead and replace the battery because it was from 2019. He said that would make my total due $400 max. *** did offer at this point to refund my deposit and call the whole repair job off if I wasn't prepared to spend $400. I said I was comfortable spending that because he was very clear with me on both occasions about pricing. $130 for the new battery, $60-$75 for the mulching blades, $20-$30 for the oil filter. Again he did not mention any other fees. During the week he had my mower he never called me to let know of any issues or additional parts that needed replaced. On 4/18/22 he called, I could tell he was outside because I could hear traffic and could barely hear him. He said the repairs were ***e and it would be $415. *** delivered my mower, told me it was running great, gave me the keys and had me sign the receipt. He told me to have a nice day and left, he didn't even put the brake on. The whole thing took 2 minutes. Once I saw the receipts I was stunned. The total came to $647.28. I'm not sure what other services he performed but he clearly did more than I wanted. I was charged for parts and $170 for "technical services" that I was never told about. It all adds up to $250 over the $400 max he quoted me.
