Crane Heating and Air Conditioning Co., Inc. performed an incorrect HVAC system installation that may have contributed to damage within my AC unit. On July 21st I called Crane for a service call to address the unit not cooling, since the company was the original installer in 2023. Their technician noted the unit was low on refrigerant, performed a leak test, and diagnosed the problem as a leaking evaporator coil. I was initially quoted a labor charge of $3,200 then $3,000. I asked for an itemized quote but was refused saying it would take two technicians 8 hours to do the work. I had already paid for a service call and leak test. On July 22nd I obtained a second opinion from another HVAC company and was quoted a range of $500 to $600 for the replacement, but the company couldn't get the part from their distributor under the warranty. On August 5th a third HVAC company also quoted installation labor of $500 to $600 with the manufacturer warranty included. Their two technicians arrived at 1pm and completed the complete installation by 3:15pm with the final bill totaling $600, which was 1/5 the price of Crane. In addition, the technician noted the original installation of the condensate drain was incorrect and likely caused the rust observed inside the unit's cabinet as a result of excess moisture. I'm concerned with Crane's quality of work and oversight of their installers under their Master HVAC licenses in Kentucky and Ohio. I would like the business to refund the $185 paid for a service call that didn't even notice the incorrect condensate drain installation and rust in the cabinet.
