Subject: Formal Complaint Against National Asset Recovery Specialists (N.A.R.S.)
To Whom It May Concern at the Better Business Bureau,
I am submitting a formal complaint against National Asset Recovery Specialists (N.A.R.S.), located at 6880 Pearl Road, Middleburg Heights, OH 44130, for deceptive, unethical, and potentially illegal business practices.
Complaint Summary:
Unauthorized Repossession:
N.A.R.S. repossessed my vehicle six hours before I received official notification from Santander Consumer USA at 2:10 PM. They were instructed to notify me, request the keys, and allow me to retrieve belongings. They failed to follow these procedures and acted prematurely, captured on my home security camera.
Misleading Address:
N.A.R.S. provided me with the same incorrect address twice. Police confirmed the business at the location is not affiliated with N.A.R.S..
Financial Loss:
I incurred losses totaling $647.24 from unsuccessful attempts to retrieve my vehicle (Uber rides and additional charges).
Loss of Personal Property:
Valuable items remain in the vehicle. Due to N.A.R.S.'s improper actions, I cannot verify their safety.
Suspicious Business Practices:
N.A.R.S. is registered as a collection agency in Buffalo, NY and a towing company in Cincinnati, OH, operating under the same name across states without proper disclosure.
They claim revenue of $1 million annually, yet are not BBB-accredited or properly registered with oversight agencies.
Requested Resolution:
Investigation into N.A.R.S. operations as a collection agency and towing company.
Clarification on the status of my belongings and reimbursement of $647.24.
Formal response from N.A.R.S.
If not resolved, I will escalate this complaint to the CFPB, FTC, and Ohio Attorney General’s Office, and pursue legal action.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,

We are at that address. We have been there for over 10 years. No one else has had this issue. There are three business at that address. If you had gone further down the parking lot you would have seen our signs or seen tow trucks go back there. You could have called or if you look at the map you would have seen a fenced in lot with cars. I am not 100% sure you even came as there is no proof. Where are the uber receipts? You have failed to identify yourself as an attorney bc your email represents you are but you never answered the question. Your laws and information you googled are INCORRECT. If you know anything we did it the right way. Show us the Santander response? They have not called us to complain or tell us we did anything wrong.Customer Answer

I am writing in response to the business’s message. Their statement is misleading and does not reflect the facts.
I visited the address on two separate occasions and could not find any signage or indication that a towing company operated there. It appeared to be a parts store with no visible signs or guidance. Only during a recent phone call was I told to “go all the way behind the parts store and call if I get lost”—instructions that were never given before.
The business claims there is no proof I came, but I have Uber receipts documenting my travel to their location, and I will submit them upon request. I have also attached Google Maps photos clearly showing the parts store as the main front-facing business, with no visible signs of a towing operation.
The business’s repeated assumption that I am an attorney is false and irrelevant. I am a consumer exercising my legal right to file a valid complaint.
Lastly, I have a time-stamped email from Santander Consumer USA confirming I was notified at 2:10 PM, hours after the towing company had already taken the vehicle. Santander told me that procedures were to be followed — such as notifying me and allowing me to remove personal property — and none of that happened.
I now have an appointment scheduled for April 15, 2025, and will update the BBB with documentation of what I find. Until then, this matter remains unresolved.Initial Complaint

On 10/04/2024 my car was repossessed. On 10/2322024 Upon retrieving my car it had a broken windshield that wasn't there when it was repossessed. I was instructed to file a claim with photos of the damage. Once I submitted my claim I received a message stating it was approved and given an appointment for the repair. On 10/24/2024 the windshield was installed but I was told that they weren't going to calibrate it which is necessary to restore the windshield back to the condition it was in before they repossessed it. I immediately contacted the person who handled the claim and they responded that "You don't need that". Calibration is essential when replacing a windshield that has it for safety issues.Business Response

The vehicle is new and the camera system on the windshield should not have to be calibrated since it was not in an accident. The windshield company puts the camera system back in the same spot. They do a good job of this. You did not state the car was acting different since Friday from the repair. No issues means the system is working good.Business Response

Car was towed with NARS for a repo. I was out on hold for 1 hour only to be told that they didn’t have my car and laughed at me cause I didn’t know its location. But the loan company said it was here but the lady I spoke to said it was t not was I able to speak to a supervisor as it wasn’t urgent. Then gave me 2 long distance numbers to call to find the car. The car is at the facility but I’m worried they damaged it dragging out of the spot it was in at work. It looks like it’s stored in a junk yard parked right against another car.Business Response

You did not speak to us originally. You spoke to a third party that your finance co used to outsource the account. We have no control over that and was responsible for just picking your vehicle up. I would say get a professional mechanic to look at your vehicle.Initial Complaint

My 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 was repossessed on January 12th without my acknowledgment I retrieved my truck on Thursday January 19th and my tire was flat and my Fourwheel drive no longer works! I bought this truck less than 6 months ago and EVERYTHING worked on it . I would never purchase a vehicle that is not in properly working condition. I was made aware that when my vehicle was towed they removed the linkage. Something was done to damage my Fourwheel drive and I want it fixed!Business Response

We picked the unit up and towed it to our yard without removing the drive shaft. The auction is who sent the transporter to our yard to pick the unit up. They are the ones who removed your drive shaft. Contact the auction where you picked the unit up from.Initial Complaint

There was nothing wrong with my 2012 Chrysler 300 before the company repossessed my car by dragging (not towing my car) down the alley. When I picked up my car Saturday all the lights was on inside the car and it kept pulling to the right causing me to almost hit a mail truck. I'm scared to drive the car cause it isn't running right since it was dragged by your repossession company! You are very unprofessional and I'm not happy about getting my car back that had nothing wrong with it until it was dragged! And now it's not running right!Business Response

Your car is a rear wheel drive vehicle. It was pulled in. He picked it up from the rear and towed it out of the alley very slowly. Did not have to drag it. We have reviewed the video from the truck cameras. He was very careful. We do not know what would have caused the car to start pulling to one side. We even showed it to a mechanic and he does not know what would have caused ti to do that. I would advise you have a mechanic look at it as we do not know why it would be doing any of this. He towed it the way your suppose to. As for the lights are you talking about the dash or the interior lights?
