I took my Great Dane **** to the vet on 3/17/2022 for a dog bite on the tip of her ear. The bite was a week ago and she was still bleeding. I told the vet that I glued her wound but every time she shook her head it broke open and blood would be flung everywhere. That was a Thursday, the appointment was made on a Monday where it was determined I would be given meds to calm her down before the appointment. They called me on 3/17 to tell me her medication was ready 30 minutes prior to her scheduled appointment. We go in the room and the vet comes in and barely looked at her and said she has fleas really bad and those need treated right away. I saw no fleas. I even stated my concern to the vet tech who said that they are sometimes hard to see and that she would get a flea comb and show me. She then combed and combed and not one flea was found. I then told her I did not want to get her the flea medicine since she didn’t have fleas. She said they would double check her when she was more calm. He stated I should have gotten her medicine the night before so she would have been calmer. I told him they didn’t call me until 30 min before her appointment. He said well you need to give them a day or two notice, I said I gave them 3. I was called back to pick up **** after they said they cleaned out the wound and glued it. I was told that she may need to have it redone in a few days which I said ok. I was given the bill and the flea medication was on there. I told them that I didn’t want her to have those and that I told them that earlier but they said they already gave her the pills and there was nothing they could do.
That same night less than 2 hours after I got her home she shook her head and blood flung everywhere again. I called the office the next morning at 8 am stating her ear was bleeding again and I wanted her seen again. I asked what the cost would be since I just had her there. She put me on hold and said I could bring her in for them to look at her. She also stated there would be no charge since she had the exam yesterday. They wanted me to drop **** off so they could fit her in. I dropped her off and again asked about a charge. She said there wouldn’t be one but if something were to come up they would call me first. I got a call saying she was done and I could come get her. I go in to get her and they tried to charge me for another exam fee. I told them she was just there and that I wanted to speak to somebody. While waiting for somebody to come out ****’s ear started bleeding again. I told them I wasn’t paying for the exam fee because I was told there would be no charge and because her ear was already bleeding again. Her response was “well yes, these kinds of wounds on the end of the ears need to just heal on their own.” I then asked why I wasted my money for something that should heal on its own. She questioned why I said wasted my money. I showed her my bill and brought up the flea medication. She said the room had to be “bombed” because of all the fleas on her and jumping off of her. I told her there was no way that was from **** because there are no fleas on her. I asked to speak to the tech that told her that but they were unavailable. She then said I was told that it would re-open and it would need to closed again. I asked to speak to the vet himself since I saw him standing in the back, I was told no he was busy. She said the vet gave me the option to put her to sleep, cut the wound open since it was so old and stitch it back up. I then told her the only thing he said was that if the meds didn’t work to calm her down, they would sedate her to do the same thing (clean it and glue it). I was never given that option of stitching the wound. Again, I asked to speak to the vet (who was still standing in the back) so he could tell me why he didn’t offer me that second option or even to tell me it should just heal on its own like that other lady told me, she said he was busy.
I spent 177.33 for nothing. Meds given to her that I didn’t
want given and a wound that was still bleeding before I even left the vets
office.
I have attached the 2 treatment plans with this. The one is
the one I was given on 3/17 with the only options given. The second one is the
treatment plan offered the next day.
