I contracted Eugene in June 2024 about renovating the
bathrooms in my multi-family home that I was moving into
after my divorce. I found him through word of mouth from an old neighbour and he had already done some other work for me and my ex that was fine. We agreed to a late-july start and that it would take a couple weeks. The deposit was provided and work paid for in increments as it was completed but the first bathroom took 5-6 weeks instead of 2 and despite not being perfect, I had to move into the apartment and didn't have time to get him to work on the incomplete details for several more weeks. This was costing me money to be in hotels and Airbnbs, which he was aware of. Then he rescheduled the 2nd bathroom which was in my lower apartment several times until February 2025, constantly inconveniencing me and my tenants, all while having my money for the materials. He again took longer than estimated and in the end showed me a bathroom with cheaper, lower quality finishes than agreed. Most importantly, he didn't grout the tile surround of the bath and stuck the tiles too close to each other to be grouted. He insisted it's a new tiling technique. In only a few weeks tiles have come loose and had to be repaired. After the walkthrough he asked me for even more money than was owed and when I tried to remind him of all the payments I already made he started yelling and threatening. I stood my ground, in a home full of only women and kids, and did not budge. He stormed out angrily to cool off and came back. I explained the math repeatedly until he finally let me finish the explanation and then when he realized he was wrong he apologized and tried to hug me. Mind you, I'm a young thin woman that he can easily overpower, I don't think he would have tried intimidating a man or asking a man for a hug. I refused. Paid the balance owing and he did not return my key so I changed my locks that night. He now refuses to fix and grout the tile.
