I made an agreement with Allstate Movers that I would pay $14000 to move my household from AZ to WI. They later raised the rate to $17500. I paid them $8011 as a down-payment. Fair Rate Movers came into the picture when they called to say they would come on the agreed upon day, Feb 14, 2022, but they said they would like two days to get the job done. I suggested they could come the afternoon before, Feb 13. Instead they came in the morning while I was not home, and began loading my possessions into a rented Uhaul truck. When I arrived home, they told me they were raising the rate about $5000 because they said I had more stuff than they were told. They wanted me to sign a many page document saying I had more boxes than my daughter-in-law and I counted, and I didn't approve of the increase in price. They continued to load my things, taking one truck away and bringing it back either emptied or a different one. They were very rude and intimidating and left items behind that were difficult for us to deal with. I tried calling Allstate to find out if this was a legitimate company, but they did not answer. I didn't pay them. They drove away with my things and when I called to know what was going on they said they wouldn't deliver until I paid half of the increased amount, $14555.66. My bank in AZ refused, my bank in WI reluctantly wired money to these people, making sure to call first and talk with ***. He was a smooth talker and assured us we would get our stuff within 21 days. Now, it is seldom that I can reach anyone at the phone number on the receipt, ************. I called the police on April 1, and that evening *** called to say they would bring my possessions in 5 days. The call turned ugly, however, and at the end he threatened that he may never deliver and that I had dimentia. My daughter tried calling repeatedly, hearing a click and no answering machine. My son tried calling and someone told him it would come in 5 days. It is April 5 today.
