Worst experience with long term disability. Was denied after 4 months of waiting even if Sedgewick approved and paid for short term. The response from **** will be same automated response to this. Worst company ever. They don't care.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We regret that this customer had a frustrating experience with the *** claim process. The customers claim was received in our office on 12/19/24, and the claim team initiated outreach to both the customer and the treating providers listed on the claim on 12/27/24. While the first successful contact with the customer occurred on 1/14/25, the claim team had already begun efforts to obtain the necessary medical documentationan essential part of the claim review process. Following that call, the claim team continued to actively pursue the required records. Upon receipt of the requested medical information, the claim was reviewed, and a determination was made on 4/30/25. We recognize that the claim evaluation took longer than expected. Unfortunately, delays in receiving the requested medical information, along with limited communication from the treating provider, contributed to the extended timeline. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused. We remain committed to conducting thorough and fair claim reviews and making determinations as timely as possible. We take this matter seriously and have shared the customers feedback with the appropriate parties to help improve both the timeliness of our processes and the overall customer experience. Please note, the customer has the right to appeal the claim decision and should refer to the letter dated 4/30/25 for detailed instructions on how to submit an appeal. Should the customer have any further questions, we encourage her to contact her claim manager, ****.

PLEASE READ!!!! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE: RUDE DISHONEST INFLAMMATORY SLANDERING. Working with New York Life for my leave of absence has been one of the worst experiences of my life. After this experience, I am stunned they are still in business especially as I work in customer service for a high value furniture company, & we would NEVER treat a client as I've been treated. I lost my home & all my possessions in Hurricane ******. This was following other ************* which resulted in 5 yrs of severe depression. Therefore, evacuating in the middle of the night from one of the largest hurricanes to hit the USA & losing my city, home, & possessions hit me extra hard. I needed time to rest & increase my therapy. However, NYL made everything more difficult which increased my stress, anxiety, & decreased my ability to work through this very difficult time in my life. Waiting 2 MONTHS AFTER my leave of absence began, they still had not obtained the *** info from my therapist & primary care giver. ALL THEY NEEDED TO DO was email my therapist and fax my PCG. They asked ME to do their work, they hung up on me, & I had to call 10+ times to get this paperwork completed. The last time I called, I was fed up - short tempered & threatening to share my experience on national new sources. THIS PART IS HARD TO BELIEVE. That night they called my local police department & said I had threatened to 'go to *** with my guns & shoot people.' If you knew me, you'd realize how ridiculous this is; I don't even kill spiders, & I wish all guns disappeared from Earth. THEY WANTED ME TO LOOK UNSTABLE IN CASE I DID REPORT THIS TO NEW SOURCES. The police did a wellness check at my friends' home where I had first stayed after losing my home - humiliating. I've asked them share the recording where they claim I threated NYL & to recant this police report; I never get a reply. This public record is beyond slanderous. YES, I AM ALREADY SPEAKING WITH AN ATTORNEY

We regret that the customer had a poor experience with our **********************. According to our review, the customer was approved STD benefits for the duration of the plan. There were occasions when we required updated medical documentation to extend the claim. We often require updates following scheduled follow up visits, which can lead to delays with receiving that information. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We understand the customers frustration and have shared their feedback with the appropriate parties. We cannot remove any incidents reported to the police and the customer would need to contact the police department correctly. Our ***************** contacted our Corporate security when the incident occurred and we determined the best course of action at that time.

We are a funeral home in ******** that routinely helps families process life insurance claims with a variety of insurers, including New York Life (***.) I am the owner of the funeral home. I can definitively say that *** is one of the most difficult life insurance companies to work with and routinely treats policyholders with a rude, hateful, and uncooperative attitude. Perhaps worse yet, the families of deceased policyholders are often spoken to in an authoritative and condescending manner. We worked with a "customer service" agent of *** today in trying to determine if beneficiaries of a life policy might be deceased. Rather than be helpful, she indicated she would rather see policy proceeds be remitted to the State of Illinois as unclaimed assets. She was amongst the most vile of the *** folks we have worked with. Our funeral warns all people to stay away from New York Life and work with other companies that we have seen firsthand will service your policy in a professional and caring manner.

I kept calling and kept being told my claim manager will call but she never called me, never communicated anything with me in the beginning. My claim was sitting for 3 weeks without a decision. I spoke with a lovely advocate who reached out to my claim manager while I was on the phone just to be told the number she had for my doctors office was invalid. I was so upset because you would think to call the member to get the correct information. She had a nurse call me originally and the nurse put down half the information I provided and was one number off on the contact information. I didnt understand this because I confirmed with her. The advocate had a manager reach out to me and the manager did call me the same day my claim manger requested my documents after getting the correct number on 03/20 the manager told me they had enough information for them to approve my claim and that she pushed it through. To my surprise my medication kept being changed and I still was unable to get it due to the medication being out of stock to the point when I was supposed to return back to work I was unstable and not on my medication yet again. My doctors stated I could not return until I am stable. Ive been going back and forth my claim manager argued with me and dismissed me. Ive been getting lied to, my doctor keeps sending whats required but now they are playing phone tag I cant afford to pay anything and now I am on the verge of being evicted, Ive been waiting for 4 weeks now I have 4 children my spouse is deceased, I have no support. Ive been waiting so long that now my condition has went from inadequate to impaired and Im still waiting. I cant reach anyone, customer service just keeps telling me to wait even with the nurse they had called me told me a decision should be made a few days later just so I can find out its just sitting there. I explained they have to fax things to my doctor office but they keep calling instead. Im just mentally tired of this!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We regret that the customer had a poor experience with our **********************. We understand her frustration and hope he can understand it is our goal to administer the policy according to its terms. The policy requires that receive proof that the customer is Disabled according to the policy terms. **************** is extremely important to us and we have escalated the customers concerns to the appropriate levels of management to be addressed. We required updated medical documentation to prove that the customer remained Disabled. Upon receiving the documentation, we requested additional clarification from the provider, which was received on 4/15/25. On 4/22/25, we extended benefits beyond 3/24/25 to 5/8/25. On 4/22/25, we issued benefits for the period of 3/24/25 through 4/27/25. Should the customer have any questions, they may contact their Claim Manager, ******, for further assistance.

****** *. over chat regarding my short term disability claim did not seem to understand my question, and continually spoke about other topics I did not question. When I repeated my concern, she ended the chat. I started a new chat, and got ****** *. again. She continued to not seem to understand my question, and said her system froze. I do not believe that as I got her right back on the next chat. She did not seem confident in her response nor was she clear. I do not feel I can be assured on why I have a reduction of my benefit listed as 'salary continuance' and whether that reduction will be on the remainder of my benefit checks.

This company is absolutely awful. I submitted all the documentation they requested from my doctorevery form, every detail they asked ****** still, I have not been paid. Now, instead of doing their part, theyre asking for even more records, more than what the State of ******************************** requires. Its unreasonable and feels like a deliberate stall tactic. I have no income coming in, and I cant keep paying out of pocket just to satisfy their endless demands. Rather than provide the support Ive paid into, theyre now telling me they cant help me. Its clear that this company is more interested in denying claims than helping people. So if youre thinking about signing up or paying into this company, be warned: you may just be paying them to tell you no. Absolutely do not recommend. Stay away.

Thank you for sharing the customers concerns regarding her experience. **************** is extremely important to us, and we sincerely regret that the service she received did not meet her expectations. Upon reviewing the claim file, we confirmed that our claim team made multiple efforts to return the customers calls and followed up directly with her on several occasions. However, we acknowledge there was a delay in response to the customer, specifically from 3/24/25 through 3/27/25, which may have contributed to her dissatisfaction. We apologize for any frustration she experienced. Her feedback has been shared with the appropriate levels of management to help improve communication and the overall customer experience going forward.
