The *** Dental School has a terrible billing and patient financial system. I am complaining about the Third Floor dental clinic. Theres a backward accounting system. They tried submitting my insurance and I was told they can't take insurance...can't keep a timely accounting of payments. The patient portal is half-baked. Refunds take months and sometimes a balance due will be sent out months after all bills were seemingly paid.Plus, unless you go in person there's no way to see an itemized invoice.

I asked to have two crowns recemented. But they asked me to pay $420 for x-ray images of all my teeth - that I did not request - and $450 for a second opinion on x-rays and teeth cleaning, ($870 in total) even before having the crowns recemented and before paying for recementing. Based on the information posted on the website of NYU College of Dentistry and on the information that I received during a phone conversation with a representative of NYU College of Dentistry, I scheduled a dental appointment with ********************************* to recement two crowns. I was informed during the phone conversation that the fee for the first visit is $150 and that I must pay the fee myself and submit afterwards a claim to my insurance company to be reimbursed. In his office ******************* told me that it is necessary to take **rays images of all my teeth, and his assistant did this. After the **rays images were taken, ******************** looked to them and told me that before recementing the two crowns it is necessary to have teeth cleaning and root canal evaluation by other two doctors. With this the visit ended and I went to the front desk to schedule the appointments for teeth cleaning and root canal evaluation. The lady who was working at the front desk scheduled the two appointments and informed me that I must pay $420 instead of $150 for this visit, and the cost of the next two visits will be $450 implying that I would have to pay $870 in addition to the cost of recementing the two crowns. I was outraged by this exorbitant amount of money but I paid $420. ******************** and his assistant did not inform me about this exorbitant fee during the visit and the lady from the front desk did not inform me in advance about the cost of the first visit. I received a refund of $105 and I ask for additional $165 (420 150 = 270, 270 105 = 165)

I was left with a bill after ***'s negligence with billing my insurance company by providing unecessary services. I came in for 2 appointments, the first one they did a full xray scan and then did a second full xray scan... but the issue is the only reason they did a second scan was because they "lost" the first set of scans. The first time the insurance company covered the charges but are refusing to pay for the second scan because they only cover xrays once every 6 months. Now I am stuck owing a bill that I refuse to pay because it isn't my fault that they lost the scans. I should have been made aware of the "lost" scans and they should not charge me because they ran my insurance and knew that i would only be covered the first time but didnt inform me that I would incurr an out-of-pocket expense. I've never had any medical bills and I refuse to pay anything additional out of pocket because of a mistake on their end.

I started going to *** dental clinic in October 2017 for a dental evaluation and any work that *** be needed including one implant on the upper right quadrant which had been missing for several years. Five years and many visits later and I need more work than ever, and we are still nowhere close to replacing the tooth I originally came in for. Now that clinic has broken at least three other teeth that later needed to be removed and Im now walking around with three missing teeth, and one half-broken-off tooth in need of extraction. With no treatment in the foreseeable future as their students will not even work on my teeth through no fault of my own.I often see ads for how great NYU College of Dentistry implants is, but they dont tell people that it will take years to actually get one if ever. The students pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for a dental degree at *** and the school charges patients through insurance and private payments so they can practice but it treats the patients like dental training manikins. It takes weeks and sometimes months just to get an appointment and you have a bunch of follow-up appointments that could the rest of the semester to work on just one tooth. They take my blood pressure before starting a session, which has always been low as I exercise regularly and run ***** miles a week but all the damage they caused to my mouth required even more work than before and they wanted me to pay for the damage they caused. This resulted in a spike in blood pressure one time and asked me to leave and see a cardiologist which I did and after a battery of tests was told I was perfectly healthy. However, I refuse to go back to *** Dental Clinic and will be filing legal action.
