Newsday is operating unfair business practices which should be illegal. Three years ago, I subscribed to digital access to their newspaper for $109/year. In year two it increased to $244/yr, then later that same year increased to $623/year then in year three it became $1038/yr. 10X increase in 3 years. The only notice I received was an email with the subject line "Update to your Subscription". It seemed to have been written to be unimportant, like so many "Update to our Privacy Policy" emails I receive every week. It did not mention a price increase until the 5th paragraph. This email was intentionally written to be overlooked. With the mass number of emails I receive every day, I only by chance read this one. If I had not, I would never know my subscription was doubling in price. Of course when I called to cancel, Newsday offered to keep the subscription at the same price and then the next "cancellation agent" offered to even decrease the price a little. They are price gouging the customer and charging you the most you will agree to pay. Shouldn't all customers pay the same rate for the same service. It seems discriminatory towards senior citizens who may not be up on reading their emails. They are prime candidates to get caught up in this scam. I recall in the '70's Crazy ***** went to jail for charging customers different prices for the same product. Why is it acceptable now?

Dear Mr. ********************* you for sharing your feedback.

We understand your concerns regarding subscription pricing and communication. Please be assured that Newsday operates in full compliance with all applicable consumer protection and pricing disclosure laws. Subscription terms, including upcoming price changes, are communicated via timely email notifications in accordance with our policies. These emails are intended to keep our customers informed and provide them with sufficient notice prior to any adjustments.

Our records show that we sent you notices on 4/9/2022, 4/8/2023, 1/13/2024, 10/19/2024, and 6/28/2025. As noted in these email notifications, price increases are necessary to support our mission of delivering trusted, high-quality journalism to the Long Island community. These adjustments help us continue investing in expanded local coverage, investigative reporting, and digital innovation, while still providing meaningful savings compared to our standard subscription rate - approximately 34% in your most recent price adjustment.

Further, we note that your cancellation request was promptly processed. As part of our commitment to customer satisfaction, we also extended an offer to continue your subscription at a reduced rate, a courtesy we provide to accommodate individual preferences whenever possible.

Your feedback has been shared with our customer care and communications teams. We remain committed to transparency and fairness and are continuously working to improve how we communicate changes to our valued subscribers.

    Best regards,

    Newsday

Unfair, possibly illegal billing practice. Backdated subscription period due to returned check. My bank states check was never presented for payment plus I have a line of credit to cover all checks. Was advised via telephone that the back dating of the bill was to cover returned check fee of $15.00. Check submitted for payment ,which they claim was returned for insufficient funds, was to cover Subscripton Period from 6/22/2023 to 8/25/2023. New bill was sent to with subscription period of 6/17-2023 to 8/11/2023. This is unacceptable.

Ive been a value customer for a long time, I never had a problem until they started to take money from my credit card without telling or notifying me.At one point my charge was $91:00., my next payment was $6:00 more. I thought these were increases so I didnt think it was to bad..When my price went up to $127.95 I made a dispute with my bank Citibank. While the dispute was going on Newsday tried contacting my credit card. When I started the dispute I also notified my credit card company as to what was happening with a dispute.. At no time did Newsday tried to call me.,After trying to get the money from my credit card I closed my account. Many times I tried to call Newsday, nobody picked up..It took Citibank almost 7 months on the dispute claiming they werent able to contact Newsday. They ended up giving me the money back to my account. It wasnt until I heard from you that I owed on or about $196.00. I called your company and one of the representatives I spoke to asked me if I could make 3 payments of $68.95 from January 2023 to March 2023. I agreed and said I no longer wanted to subscribe with Newsday. When you sent me more charges they claim I owed them. I had no knowledge of these charges and at no time did Newsday contact me.
