On February 23, 2024, I signed a contract with LJ's Remodeling Inc. (owned by Keith W******) through its representative RJ W****** to remodel the kitchen and bathrooms of my residence. At the request of RJ, a check was written and handed to RJ, in the amount of $30,608 as the first draw. After the plumbing and cabinet selections, Keith came to pick up the second check in the amount of $20,000 on April 18th as the second draw. According to the contract, LJ's remodeling should start the project in the April/May time frame. However, Keith W******, the owner of the company said that they needed more time to complete the project he was working on and that our project would start in June. When June came, Keith further postponed the project to July and then again to August. At the end of July when we checked the status, Keith promised to start the project before November 4, 2024 if not earlier. It did not happen. The company has shown no intention to do the job. We therefore have requested a refund of the money paid, $50,608 in total. So far we have not received a positive response. Therefore I am filing this complaint and asking for your help to get the refund.

    Business Response

    Date: 12/04/2024

BBB spoke to the owner of the business and the following was relayed: I had a heart attack and cancer.  So I'm behind schedule.  I've been in constant communication with this customer throughout all of this.  I can provide all the emails and everything to BBB to show this.  She is the one that broke the contract.  I've been in business for over 20 years and never had a problem.  As you can see, this is my 1st and only complaint- ever.  I've been going through health struggles and have relayed all of this by being in constant communication with this customer.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.

Thank you for handling our case.  We greatly appreciate it. We do not and cannot accept his response. The business owner never told us he had a heart attack or
cancer.  Instead, over the course of the
year, he had said his mother had heart surgery and that the same mother had
lung cancer. And that he had covid.  Another
excuse he kept using to postpone my project was that he could not finish a
project on hand.  This excuse had been
used since May.  We do not know what to believe.  Even if he were ill, he should be able to
schedule his employees to work on the project. At the end of this October, as there was still no indication
that the business owner intended to work on the project, we asked for a refund.
Since then, the business owner has claimed
we broke the contract.  This further indicates
that the business owner has no intention of resolving the problem.  He is trying to blame us so that he could
keep the money and not work on the project.

    Regards,
