We hired Dan R********, President, and company to build a 900 s/f addition to our home. After viewing the formal plans we agreed to $150,000. An error regarding the roof line was discovered with the plans so the price was renegotiated to $180,000. I became suspicious after I had given them nearly $100,000 in cash deposits but no work was being done, for months, beyond the concrete foundation. I found out from the bank manager that most of my cash had been withdrawn, yet no material had been purchased for my addition. He admitted to having financial troubles and agreed to begin framing the house if I purchased the materials. He said he would do other things to the house (like installing a new roof on the rest of the house, for the cost of material only, building me a slate fire pit, etc) to make up for the deposits that was taken. Against my better judgment I went along. 4 months later, the house is still not fully framed, and none of the work performed passed a formal inspection. So, again I question him about being months behind schedule and tens of thousands of dollars over budget. His response was to pack up his crew and his trailer, leave my property and cut off all lines of communication with me. I am now left with an addition that’s 75% finished, except the electrical, the plumbing and even the framing inspections ALL failed. I have since paid a plumber $6000 to fix the plumbing and gas lines, an electrician $7500 to fix the electrical issues, and am currently working with the architect for a solution to address the structural issues that the inspector pointed out which is estimated to cost $10,000+ to bring to code. So, I currently have $280,000 invested in this addition, and I’m still about $60,000 away from a finished project. I want the $150,000 in overpayments back and for this company to be stopped from building unsafe homes! Lastly, the majority of his crew came to work either high or drunk on a daily basis. I watched them smoke pot right in front of me
