I am writing to file a formal complaint against Jack Waringa, owner of Waringa Works, regarding an unresolved issue and unsatisfactory conduct during my most recent remodeling project. Mr. Waringa previously completed kitchen and bathroom renovations in my home with professionalism and care, which led me to hire him again for a third job. This job included replacing my bathtub and tile, performing deck repairs, and updating the pet screen in my sliding screen door. He committed to completing these tasks with the same standard of workmanship and reliability.

Unfortunately, this project was handled quite differently. Mr. Waringa frequently missed scheduled appointments, arrived late, or canceled with short notice, causing me to miss work unnecessarily. His attention to detail was lacking, most notably when he damaged the waterproof laminate bathroom floor by placing a drop cloth with wet primer on it. Rather than repairing it correctly, he used a shortcut that left the floor visibly damaged and no longer waterproof. He later refused to fix it properly but issued a $1,200 credit, which I used to hire someone else to complete the repairs.

The most pressing unresolved issue involves the sliding screen door. I asked him only to replace the pet mesh in the existing ********* ******** door. Instead, he discarded the entire door without permission and replaced it with a $125 universal door that doesn’t fit, falls off track, and doesn’t lock properly. He attempted multiple fixes, all unsuccessful. When I asked him to replace it correctly, he canceled a follow-up appointment and ultimately refused further communication.

I am requesting reimbursement of $394.20, the cost to replace the screen door with a standard model that fits. I feel this is a fair resolution for the item he improperly replaced and failed to remedy.

    Business Response

    Date: 07/14/2025

I am responding to **** *****'s complaint against me (#*********). I appreciate the opportunity to share my side because Ms. *****'s is not completely truthful. I take this matter very seriously, as it is my namesake and livelihood. I have professionally done home remodeling and repairs for 12 years. Four of those years I have been in business or myself. I pride myself on the quality of my work and my flexibility to do what needs to be done to my satisfaction and my customers satisfaction. I have never had a compliant as well as I have many repeat customers and referrals. I have completed three separate jobs for Ms. *****. The first job went well, with Ms. ***** adding several jobs on top of the original quote she had agreed upon. The only issue was at the end of the project she didn't have the money to pay me. With time, she eventually did pay in bill in full. The second job was installing a bathroom floor, a new vanity, vanity lights, mirror, toilet and plumbing, everything went well and according to plan. The third job I was contracted to repair the bathroom work that was done by another contractor some years ago. While on this project Ms. ***** asked me to complete some additional projects such as, Deck repairs, several interior home repairs, replacing the sliding screen door and demo of the shower tile. I sourced and purchased all the materials myself for those added projects. In the bathroom I had already formatted the plan the tile work, and she changed the original tile plan to a totally different larger and longer tile which was more difficult to work with and install. I had agreed to install the new tile as well as procure the flooring for her. During the rough plumbing stage, primer had leaked through the drop cloth about a quarter size on the floor tile. I tried everything I could think of to clean the spot without damaging the tile. I was not satisfied with the results. At no time was the tile "no longer waterproof" as Ms. ***** had claimed. It was simply a cosmetic issue, as I had installed the flooring for this project, I was able to contact the distributer to obtain the exact dye lot and were able to procure two boxes of the flooring which I paid for and had shipped out. After attempting to remove one tile out of the floor, the results did not meet my satisfaction. I told Ms. ***** the next step would be the remove the floor and reinstall using the existing tiles. She then contacted a separate contractor and received a quote to replace the floor with a completely different tile. I never indicated that I wouldn't be fully responsible and willing to redo the floor which would only take a day or two to complete. I did not dispute the quote from said additional contractor. I paid the full amount by agreeing to take off $1,200.00 off the remodeling costs. I do not know if she hired the additional contractor, but she was content with the jobs I had completed and the money I had credited her. I have been completely professional with Ms. ***** and feel! have been beyond reasonable working for her. I did miss a day's work due to illness. I arrived later to the project when I needed to pick up additional materials for the job. Ms.
***** always had to be present when I was working so there were times, she cancelled or changed the work schedule. I met all my job specific timetables. I feel I have been very flexible and accommodating for Ms. *****.
As far as the sliding screen door, she asked me to replace the door, not the screening which is written in the estimate provided to her. I replaced the battered sliding screen door with a universal adjustable screen door because the door was an older style that was not the standard size door. After the door was installed, Ms. ***** said she only wanted the screening replaced. Ms. ***** was present the whole time I was completing this project and did not say anything until after it was completed. She also at no time stated to keep the old door. I clean up my jobs each day. In addition, I explained that the screen door should be stored for the winter to avoid damages. Ms. ***** contacted me about the screen door getting damaged by the heavy winds this past winter. I came and adjusted the door the best I could. She then contacted me again about me replacing the door. I could not make it work and at that point notified her that I no longer felt comfortable continuing to provide work for her. Several weeks later I received a screen door quote from Ms. ***** from ********* ********. She stated that she would pay $100.00 of the quote and stated I should be responsible for the $394.20 balance. I did not respond to this request as I felt Waringa Works LLC was not liable for this damage cause by weather. I did contact the original contractor as I didn't understand why she was resorting to me on this matter instead of the original workers. I than spoke to him regarding this BBB complaint Ms. ***** filed and he told me to add in that he supports me in this claim and to use his name, Scott N**** as a reference in this case on working with Ms. *****. I am sorry that this situation has come to this, and I wish Ms. ***** well, but I will never work for her again.

I have learned a hard lesson from this experience.
    Best Regards,
    Jack Daniel Waringa
