I hired them to replace my driveway. They did the work while i was at work and i came home to a terrible driveway from day one. I let them know right away i wasnt happy with the work they did. About 6 months after the new driveway was done it started to break apart on the edge. they sent about 5 different employees of the conoany to come look at the drive way. They sent a repair guy but not long after the driveway started falling apart again.Business response

Driveway was installed 11/22.One month after install, what they call -graveling- started to happen. This is when the asphalt they put down starts coming loose creating gravel spots.Pretty much the driveway is falling apart.Graveling eventually leads to holes.I made the company aware. They came one time before they closed for the winter, in the dark, which they couldnt see- no lights. The repair was as poor of a job as the first install.I paid $12,200 for this driveway and it is falling apart one month after install. They told me they would come back in spring to do more repairs.By then my 1 yr warrantywill almost be expired. I can see they will keep coming to do repairs until my warranty is up and then disappear.I have pictures and videos of the driveway falling apart- and several emails with the company regarding the driveway falling apart/needing repairs after a month.I am not sure I want more repairs. The driveway was put down so poorly needing repairs in one month, what will repairs look like after my warranty is up(which will be soon).I was supposed to have a brand new driveway. That is what I paid for.Not one that needs repairs.I do not trust this company to do further repairs,I think I would want most of my money back, and them to remove the pavement they so poorly put down.I will have another company pave it again, costing me more money, whatever I cannot get back from Atlas. My old driveway needed repairs. I could have just kept my old driveway that was falling apart, been in the same place, and saved $$.I paid over 12k for a new driveway thats falling apart. The graveling is not happening just in one place. It is happening in several places. I would greatly appreciate the BBBs help here. This was an expensive purchase for me, and they do not seem to concerned about it, which concerns me more. This driveway was supposed to last ***** years. It lasted 1 month.I have more photos to upload-but it will only let me upload one picture.WouldappreciatetheBBBshelpBusiness response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:[Your Answer Here]
You company- and also ***** has my phone number. Your company is the one who should be setting an appointment up with me. Your company has already assessed the situation. ***** already has come and supposedly looked at the driveway, that is why he sent a repair crew before the winter. He needs to re assess the same situation? Sounds like more of a waste of time. My first complaint states that I do not want any further repairs from atlas. The Installation was poor enough- so was the first repair. If you would like to contact me to return the money you have stolen- and take back your pavement- you know my number
I paid $12,200 for a horribly poor paving job- and I have to call you to set up an appointment. The driveway will be all loose and a pile of gravel soon because of the poor installation job- it should be really easy for you to rake up and put in your trucks. In order for the BBB to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

This is YOUR ISSUE as well, that you created with your poor workmanship. You keep ignoring my message that I do not want your company to do any further repairs. You are just repeating the same thing with no answers of what you would do - not that I want your company to do anything but return my money.

My job was started on 8/22/22 & consisted of removing & replacing a driveway & adding pavers to encase the new black top with an apron of pavers. The job cost was 27K. I immediately noticed that the pavers were placed too high and voiced my concern to the company. I was ignored and the work continued. Asphalt was put down on an improperly graded base & this has caused water to run onto my patio. Because of the height of the pavers, it prevents water running off my driveway and this will lead to icy spots and dangerous conditions. I am getting water running into my garage(also due to improper grading). **************** *** came to check out the job and said poor grading is my problem. The Atlas *** ***** checked the job & said that the pavers are too high & causing my drainage issues. I alerted the sales person at the paving company and after being blown off several times, he and the owner came and agreed there were issues. They walked away and have to this date not responded to any calls or messages. I am most worried about ice due to the drainage issues and someone falling. My gate is also not able to properly open and the sales person showed up unannounced and started to walk around my property and play with the gate when I was not home, which is trespassing. The owner has personally been told of my concern of ************** falling but has no concern. The owner was quite obnoxious when viewing my job and rather than solving the problem just stormed away. The salesperson for the job indicated that his boss was a hot head & would talk to him. This person will now not accept my calls. I can never understand why people think money is more important than someone's safety. I dread the onset of winter arriving and worry about slipping & falling. I also had a neighborhood ***** look at my job & again grading is the problem. I paid for a quality job and certainly did not get what I was promised. And now have a gate which does not open properly & worries of falling on ice.Business response

After several days of rain, the driveway was inspected and no major flooding or pooling of water was apparent. There were several drops of water on the floor of the garage however this is attributed to wind driven rain or another source since the apron in front of the garages are properly pitched away from the doors. There are a couple of wet spots on the surface, immeasurable as far as depth goes, and dry ** in a short period of time. The elevations chosen are designed to pitch water off the driveway, there are several different pitch points that were created to get the water off the surface, and it works. The patio has it's own issues, one being that it has settled over the years and has some low areas that collect water, although this water quickly dissipates. The owner claims the gate was damaged during construction and a new gate has been ordered per the owner, and Atlas gladly paid for this said gate.Customer response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:[Your Answer Here]Atlas Asphalt never came to inspect the driveway during any rainy weather. Photos have been taken by us to substantiate water running onto our patio towards our house. The biggest concern for us is improper grading or draining of water away from the house. This also creates large puddles of standing water, which can and will freeze into icy spots. The possibility of someone slipping and falling is a serious and real problem. A delivery person slipping and being injured could be a potential lawsuit against me, but also against Atlas Asphalt for improper grading of our driveway. I had an independent Architect check the driveway grading and take photos and his findings were that the driveway has improper grading and that is why water is running onto my patio. I have a written document from the Architect detailing the problem, which I had also provided to Atlas Asphalt. Atlas Asphalt seems not willing to be responsible and stand behind any mistakes made during their work on my driveway. Thank you for your time.

On July 6, 2022 Atlas Asphalt seal coated my large driveway . Approximately three weeks afterward a blemish stain had developed on a small portion of my driveway. I have contacted the receptionist nearly half a dozen times since then, and sent a photo. She proceeded to tell me that, after FIVE weeks of my trying to amicably resolve this with the company to have the small patch resealed, that the owner refused to have the area sealed claiming the stain was fading. This is entirely false and untrue, as the blemish stands just as evident as originally stated, and after paying them with a check theyve since cashed, This is extremely poor customer service from a Long ********************** ** local company who is not being put out of their way when asked to repair something they should be.Business response

A blemish does not just appear out of nowhere after doing a sealcoat. A sealcoat is a simple painting over the existing driveway and any imperfections prior or directly after this service is performed will be visible immediately. ************ hold no warranty & the cause of anything like this happening is not due to anything Atlas did, a car leaking oil in this are is a common problem that would cause this.Customer response

Company contracted in August to replace driveway and put Belgium block apron in. Driveway ripped out 9/21/21 I had to call repeatedly to get work done. It was finally completed 10/23.It rained the next day. Whole left side of driveway filled with water. I contacted company who assured me they would come back to correct.Numerous phone calls and no shows and told they have other driveways to do. Told me I need to be patient. It is now end of Nov. I think they purposely put me off knowing it can't be done in the cold. Was told this wasn't a priority. They have no intention of making correction. Now I am afraid if it rains and freezes someone can be get hurt on black ice. If they don't fix they should refund some money so I can set it fixed before someone gets hurt.Business response

I have had my driveway ripped up and new asphalt put down as well as concrete pavers trim around the driveway and a walk way to the front door. With the pavers the ***** put poly sand between the pavers but did not put it into the trim around the driveway.Initially they told me they would come back to do it and so I paid in full. I have repeatedly called to get it scheduled and have been given many excuses as to what why they missed the scheduled dates. Now they are saying as soon as the have a crew out in the area. I have had arguments with ******* the office manager who seems to be claiming that she has too many other jobs to do.Business response
10/12/2021
It has been explained multiple times to **************** that he did not pay for polymeric sand, the ***** installed it for him as a cutesy. The ***** installed this sand where he felt fit and we are not at the liberty of giving more free materials away. It is standard to NOT install polymeric sand in paver borders but if he would like this service and material it will be at a charge to the customer which he is not willing to pay for. This complaint is unwarranted and Atlas is requesting this be closed immediately.

I used this company to remove/replace a driveway, walkway and patio at my house in May 2021. They damaged my property, used inferior materials and poor craftsmanship and tried to shrug their responsibility to fix the problems they created. They broke part of my retaining wall next to my driveway and did a poor job fixing it. They sold me on a level of expectation at the time of sale that they never planned to live up to. I was hung up on many times by receptionist, the sales person Tyler would set appointments to look at the damage and wouldn't show, they delivered my asphalt to start work on my driveway only to leave before it was completed leaving it all a mess. The sales person Tyler told me directly that “not everything aspect of the job going to go well - that’s just how it is”. I questioned a visible gap between the pavers and my front door on 7/24 I was told that was normal. I now have water damage by my front door and in my basement. The whole door needs to be replaced now tooBusiness response

In response to this complaint Atlas has made great effort to satisfy any issues. The asphalt was not done poorly nor was the workmanship. When a customer does not want to do any borders such as *** ***** wanted on his driveway it is impossible to get a straight line as the asphalt is made of rocks so the customer was not happy with the edging. We did try to install a asphalt burm but the customer did not like that so we offered to install pavers as a border at a cost and the customer did not want to pay for them. As for the retaining wall you can see in the photos attached it is not a retaining wall but a rail road tie border which not only did Atlas take $250 off because a small portion of it was accidentally removed on excavation we install a new pressure treated piece for the customer. Atlas has gone above and beyond to address any and all issues to satisfy this customer and I appreciate you looking at all of the photos and and documentation regarding this project to see the beautiful job Atlas has done here and all repairs to satisfy.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:[Your Answer ]
Although I do wish a resolution has been met, unfortunately it has not. I have been promised a lot from this company and very little has actually been delivered. They are quick to say they fixed the issues at hand but I am still having major problems from their workmanship. And just to clarify the claims made by Atlas, they did have to come back to fix the left edge of my driveway and the edging by the street. However I would like to point out that even Melissa agreed with how badly this job was mismanaged to that point and tried to offer a FREE boarder for the left side of my driveway as repayment. Apparently that request was denied by her hierarchy and that’s when I was given a $250 credit. That was the same time she told me the area by front door would also not be fixed. So although they did fix those two specific issues and they did bandaid my retaining wall- yes it may be a railroad tie but it still is a retaining wall- I still have a major issue remaining. The area surrounding my front door has allowed water to fill into the gaps that were left by Atlas and are the same spots I clearly pointed out in an email to Melissa back on June 24th. I was denied a permanent fix by Atlas and now I have water coming in through my front door and down into my basement. I had to bring a contractor in to look at the area to see what could be done. He definitively told me that the area was never sealed properly, that poor materials were used and now I have water damage on the door frame and under the door sill. The door needs to be replaced. Apparently Atlas neglected to fill this gap even though I requested they did so. They also used regular sand in all the joints and along the borders of the patio instead of a poly sand that dries hard to wick away water and keep pavers firm from moving. It was never given as an option to me to even use or purchase. Because of that, I can physically lift pavers up around the areas surrounding the front door where the biggest gaps exist. My contract with Atlas agrees to warranty the work done for a year as well. When I called Atlas to discuss these issues earlier last week, I was told someone would come back to re-do the work with poly sand at no charge to me. I was supposed to receive a call no later than today to confirm an appointment for tomorrow and I have not heard anything. I have no idea if anyone is even coming. I also asked for them to discuss the cost of a new door with management because I have to replace the damaged door now too. I was supposed to receive a call for that as well that I am still waiting on. It calls to a pattern when your promised answers, promised appointments, promised proper workmanship and none of which is actually delivered. There are more details to go through of how I was failed as a consumer on this job on every end but all I want is for someone to finally own up and fix what they promised to deliver in the first place. I am left with on going issues, I am still under my one year warranty and I now have property damage. Once we can reconcile those issues then we can shake hands and part our separate ways.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:[Your Answer Here]
I would just like to note that I agreed to the use of the poly sand on Monday 9-13-21 and I was told by Meghan that I was put on the schedule for Friday 9-17-21 weather depending. The weather Friday was fine all morning and afternoon here in Rocky Point. No one called to confirm that appointment as promised either nor did they show up. I called Atlas on Friday Sept. 17th in the morning to see if anyone was coming and I was informed by the receptionist that no one ever actually put on me on the schedule. She said she would ask Meghan or Melissa to get back to me to answer when someone could come out to me and no one got back to me. I also asked on Monday the 13th about what they could do about my front door. I was told they would talk to the owners who were working in New Jersey that day and call me back later in the week. No response. You can clearly see a lack of communication despite multiple efforts made on my end to resolve these issues. I never demanded that they needed to replace the front door - despite it being my belief that it was ruined by their own neglect back in June. I just simply asked what could be done and was awaiting an answer. And again, I also agreed to the use of the poly sand and I am awaiting their arrival to fix that issue. The fix date of 9-17-2021 that was promised by Atlas clearly did not happen and was admittedly never even put on the schedule as confirmed by their own employee.
The amount of time and effort I have had to put into this project to make sure it was done properly is beyond exhausted. I have a contract with Atlas that covers any problems I incur for up to 1 year after the work was done. I am still under warranty and I was promised an appointment date to install a poly sand. At the very least let’s get that part done. I do not understand why no one can give me any definitive answers or even return a phone call. Dragging this out is only going to make matters worse for both of us.
Please call me with a date to correct the poly sand issue.
