I rented with gauler from June 2019-June 2022. My roommates and I put down a $1800 deposit and were only given back $125. The lease says they will only take out $300 for cleaning fees and they took out over $1000. The property was a mess when we initially moved in and we almost had to take the landlord, Yugo A***** to court. He only fixed the “essential” services while we were there and we ended up getting charged for everything that wasn’t fixed before 2019. Heather wasn’t even the property manager at the time of move in and had no clue what it looked like when we moved in. The only reason I haven’t filed in court is because the filing fee costs almost as much as what we got back from the deposit. For reference, here’s what it looked like on the move in day. There was cat poop on the carpets and walls, the carpets were stained and filthy (she spent $500 of our deposit on the carpets), nothing had been cleaned, the AC was broken along with the washing machine, there was a hole in the ceiling, old tenants belongings everywhere, dirty dishes with ants in the sink, and more. Heather even stated we should get at least $200 back in cleaning and once I got a lawyer involved she got defensive and said no. My roommates and I left the place MORE than better than “as is” which is what the lease requires- leave it as it was, we got the carpets cleaned twice while being there and should get our money back. There was also a period during 2020 where we had to withhold rent because the landlord would not fix the leaking dish washer.
