Today, I attempted to schedule a routine dental cleaning, but my request was denied. Instead, the office insisted that I undergo a deep cleaning first before they would consider a regular cleaning.
During my visit on December 23, 2024, I was informed that a regular cleaning was not an option and that a deep cleaning was necessary. While I understand the importance of periodontal care, I believe I should have the right to choose a regular cleaning, especially given that it has been over six months since my last one. Preventive dental cleanings are an essential part of maintaining oral health, and I do not believe it is appropriate for the office to refuse this service outright.
I am covered under my wife’s dental insurance plan through the University of Nevada, Reno. Based on my understanding, my annual dental benefits total $2,000. After previous treatments, including a root canal, I estimate that I have $184.40 remaining for the current university calendar year, which runs from July of last year to June of this year. If my estimate is correct and the remaining credit is sufficient, I would like to schedule one regular cleaning in February, 2025.
It is important to note that Sala Family Dentistry quoted their suggested deep cleaning for $1,439, which I believe is a very high price for this procedure. In order to address my deep cleaning need at an affordable price, I scheduled a deep cleaning session in Taiwan to be performed during my upcoming visit in April 2025, where the cost is approximately $200. However, I would still prefer having a regular cleaning completed here in February before proceeding with the deep cleaning abroad.
I would appreciate your assistance in addressing this matter with Sala Family Dentistry to determine whether their refusal to provide a regular cleaning is appropriate. Additionally, I would like clarification on whether I should be allowed to proceed with a standard cleaning under my insurance coverage before undergoing a deep cleaning.
