I visited a local Auto-zone store today, I needed to purchase a sunshade for my Navigator as they only last one year in this harsh environment. I found the product I usually purchase, Pro-Elite Universal Best Sunshade in a display box as I walked into the store. The box contained all of the same product at least 20 items and one other lessor shade, there was a sign displayed in front of the box advertising $12.99. I picked one up and proceeded to the checkout counter. The cashier scanned the product and asked for $17.33, I replied the box is clearly marked $12.99 and every item in the box is the same as this one. The cashier asked where I found the item and came out from behind the counter to check out my claim. I showed the cashier the display and he picked the sign up and stated that that price was not for that model, I showed him that that was all that was displayed in that box and that the sign was clearly displayed on that box. He proceeded back to the cash register and said "That will be $17.33 this item is $15.99 not $12.99 the sign should not have been put there", I said "You need to charge me $12.99 as displayed on the sign". The cashier got angry and said "Do you want this or not?" I answered "Yes for $12.99 as advertised in front of the display box, this is false advertising." The cashier got even more angry and was getting increasingly louder. "It is not! What do you want to do!" he yelled. I answered "I want to speak with your Manager." The cashier called the Manager that was standing only a few feet away, he came over and sent the cashier away. I explained the problem to the Manager and his response was "There is nothing I can do about it." I replied to him "Of course there is, you are the Manager and are responsible. You can override the price and sell it to me for the price that was displayed, this is a violation." The manager said he could not change the price and asked if I still wanted to buy it, which I did and promised I would report the problem. So here we are.

I chose to report this incident to the local BBB. One thing is certain, they have lost a customer over $3.00. Not only because this store did not understand best business practices, but also because I had to endure a hostile cashier and an ineffective store manager. This lack of support with the customer who was treated poorly because a pricing error was identified, is a poor reflection on the corporation as a whole.

I am sincerely disappointed
