Per NRS 706.4477(2)(c), a residential complex May not have a vehicle towed solely because the registration of the vehicle is expired.The Avondale, despite this law, has tagged my vehicle for towing, in my assigned, numbered spot twice. The first time I raised this issue they acknowledged their understanding of this statute and apologized. The second time, however, they doubled down. First I was told they had no record of me having a car. After I disputed this, noting that I have lived here and parked in my assigned spot for more than year, a second argument was raised. This time, a picture of my car was taken at a very extreme angle saying that I was encroaching on the other spot and this was unfair. I indicated that I was parked completely within (not on, not touching) the lines of my allotted space. After this they finally returned to the expired registration. I was told that the ****** state law did not apply to them. I indicated that the law did in fact apply to them and at this point was told that I had to talk to their attorneys. I was directed to submit my complaint on an unbranded website that I had never seen, nor heard of. It was only after I searched a fax number on the page that I was able to determine it was associated with the law firm that the complex utilizes. I submitted a detailed complaint including all of the communications with the complex and after several days I received a letter from their attorneys stating, effectively, that yes its illegal to tow a car for expired registration but my car wasnt towed so they had done nothing wrong and that they will keep tagging my car for towing because the lease says they can. TLDR: this complex engages in predatory towing practices because they get kickbacks from towing companies despite the fact that this is illegal. When I raised this issue and followed their required complaint process the response I received indicated that yes this was illegal but they will keep doing it.
