This issue has been ongoing since June of 2024, when we received an invoice for $3438 (included tax) for the installation of a 36" door in our garage. On July 24, 2023, we met with **** ******* and were told that the cost would be "about $2500," after which we agreed for them to do the work.

It took until December of 2023 to complete the project due to a number of issues, and in a text from Mr. ******* on 10/4/23, we were told that "...we will figure out a fair way to compensate you for some of the inconvenience you had to endure..." There was never any "compensation amount" given to us.

We received the invoice for $3438 on 6/10/24, along with a note from Mr. ******* that included the statement "Rather than give you some percentage of a discount, I would like to do this job at our cost, with no markup whatsoever!"

Since the cost was a great deal more than what Mr. ******* had told us: "about $2500," we responded on 6/13/24, requesting an itemized list for the individual, specific services rendered and the cost for each. We also said we were open to meeting with him to discuss the issues in more detail. Mr. ******* responded he "...would be happy to meet with you, but I'm currently out of town and scheduled to return on 6/27. I will contact you and arrange a time for us to meet..."

That was the last we heard from Mr. ******* until we received a second invoice for the same amount. On 2/11/25, we sent a check for $2686 ($2500 + tax) and again requested an itemized list of the cost for each service rendered. Once again, we stated we were open to meeting with him.

There has been no response other than another invoice for $750. This indicates, to us, that Mr. ******* has no interest in meeting with us to discuss the issues nor to send us an itemized list of the cost for each service rendered. Thus, we decided to contact the BBB. We hope you can help with this matter. Thank you.

      Business Response

      Date: 06/16/2025

      Dear *******, **** and *****,

Please see the attached invoice. We have issued you a credit that brought your account to a $0.00 balance, and we have no more monetary demands from you regarding this contract.

I do want you to know that we did request an amount equal to our cost only (actually less). I originally told you I estimated this job would cost between $2,500 to $3,000, depending on the amount of work determined to be needed after we open the drywall (not just "$2,500.00" as you stated). The amount of wire that needed to be relocated was extensive, which should have been obvious to anyone seeing it, as I'm sure it was to you.

We had many issues to overcome, which I will not revisit at this time. I will say that when such issues occur is often when some contractors decide to leave a job rather than take a loss, but this never crossed my mind or my crews'. We persisted and stayed with it until we made it right. It was during this time that I wrote to you that we will figure it out and compensate you for your inconvenience, and I hope you'll appreciate it.

Furthermore, we had to modify and put metal coil wrap around your door frame because it turned out you had 2x8 construction, and it was the only professional way to address it after you added the installation of the storm door. A roll of coil stock alone costs about $600 (2023 prices), and that's before the added labor to install it, install the storm door, relocate your yard gate, etc.

I'm telling you all this because, even though we're no longer requesting it, I want you to know that we did incur significant additional costs and that we did, indeed, offer you a very decent resolution, which was, again, at or slightly below our actual total cost of the labor and materials we provided.

I do realize it had taken too long to address this. I take full responsibility for it. Because of this, we choose to forego a prolonged debate over it, and we have issued you this credit. I'm sorry for any inconvenience you have endured. I hope you appreciate the work we have performed and all the accommodations and courtesies that we did offer you.

      Sincerely,
      **** *******
      President
