Hired marc zieselman to build a deck with stairs and lighting because he was referred by another contractor. Found out after it was only bc he was a recovering alcoholic who begged him for work. Had him sign a contract that work would be completed and pass inspection by 5/15/24 and failure to do so forfeited final payment. Deck failed inspection six weeks later on a Tuesday. Marc said he would fix the 3 violations, fix steps and do other cosmetic touches before reinspection that friday. He came that wednesday and did half the work, said he'd come back after lunch to finish everything. Never came back and ignored our calls. We warned him we wouldn't pay him unless he came the next day, Thursday to finish. He came Thursday only to pack up his stuff and leave. He then sent us a message demanding full payment bc he was done. I Had to hire two other contractors to finish work and pass inspection. I have pictures of all his slippy work and damaged trex decking/corners. Also have pics of drinking beer and smoking weed during job. Whole six weeks was a nightmare. He never came when he said he was, or would leave at lunch and not come back. Never answered calls or texts after doing so. We made him redo so many things bc they were done wrong. I had to run out on 10 or more occasions to pick up materials he forgot or miscounted on my dime. He even let my indoor cat out and never told me which resulted in a 12 hour search after which he admitted to. Now after being abandoned and betrayed I found out from a woman at the BBB that Consumer affairs website says his nj license expired in 2022. So he's not even licensed and prob not insured which makes sense bc he never showed me proof of either. He gets high and drunk on job, does sloppy work, abandoned us in 11th hour without finishing, took 2x as long to do job as he promised, is unprepared with materials/planning, and relied on me to be his assistant for weeks and make trips to buy tools/supplies for him. Unprofessional liar
