We hired American Eagle HVAC to replace our full HVAC system on 4/25 for $12,480 and paid in full. Key items were not completed—including connecting the bedroom duct and suspending attic ductwork, which was agreed to verbally. After posting an honest Google review, we were sent a “courtesy” contract demanding we remove the review and void our 1-year labor warranty before they would complete the job. We consider this coercive and unethical.
Details: • The duct serving our bedroom was never connected to the new trunk line—no cutout was made, and no flex duct was installed. That room has had limited airflow since. • Another duct, which was supposed to be lifted off the attic floor, remains on the ground, restricting access. This was verbally agreed upon before the job started. • These issues should have been caught with a basic airflow check before marking the job complete. • We supported the install fully: cleared garage space, purchased extra plywood, ran an air scrubber in the attic, and made the job easier for the crew. • When we raised these concerns, we were sent a revised contract requiring us to waive protections and remove our review in exchange for completing already-paid work. This appears to violate Google and NJ consumer protection policies. • A crew member made inappropriate comments that made my wife uncomfortable. When reported, the concerns were dismissed and we were accused of dishonesty.
The company replied publicly to our review, but much of it was inaccurate or misleading. Despite follow-ups, they’ve gone silent.
    Desired Resolution:
We are hiring a licensed HVAC contractor to complete the work and will pursue recovery through small claims court. This complaint is to document a pattern of poor workmanship, unethical behavior, and failure to fulfill a paid contract.

Mr. ***** claims that two key items were not completed. (1) Attaching a supply duct and (2) suspending a return duct. According to Mr. *****'s text on April 27th where he asks if it is possible to lift this return duct makes it obvious that this was not spoken about prior to work starting as work had been completed on April 25th. Then about 5 weeks later, Mr. ***** claims a supply duct was never connected. After seeing pictures Mr. ***** posted on Google it is obvious that the duct in question was hidden underneath attic insulation and never connected to begin with. As a way to resolve this matter with Mr. *****, we offered to connect this duct under the condition that he remove his misleading 1-star review and forgo future correspondence with us. Mr. ***** then claims we are coercing him and insinuated legal action. However, we never demanded him to sign anything but only offered a resolution which he could agree to or not agree to. He chose not to agree, then go on to edit his google review and file this complaint. Attachments will show a job deposit, a balance paid once work was completed, a signed contract as well as a text from Mr. ***** praising the work done by American Eagle Heating & Air Conditioning of NJ Inc. If the BBB chooses to investigate this claim further, our company has many examples of Mr. *****'s lack of credibility and unwillingness to come to a fair resolution. Mr. ***** has and actively is defaming our company and our hard worker team members.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:  After I posted my review on Google, the company responded publicly with false claims and an inappropriate personal remark: “Congrats on finding a new job.” I’m currently unemployed, recovering from a serious shoulder injury, and receiving unemployment benefits. Comments like this could be misinterpreted by investigators and potentially jeopardize my benefits and workers comp case.
