I retained Rem/Katcher LLC in August 2022 to represent me in traffic court. When I spoke to ***********************, Esq, she clearly articulated what she would do for me as her client: request and collect evidence from the police department, review evidence with me, and come up with a strategy for the court hearing. Before retaining ****************, I filed a FOIA request for body camera footage. As soon as I received the information I FOIA'd, I forwarded them to **************** and always followed up with a phone call. I did not hear back from ****************. I was never able to review any evidence with her. I never spoke to her about strategy. I left numerous messages for her with her secretary and sent her emails. On the day of court (held virtually), another attorney from her firm represented me. This attorney was driving while representing me. The judge had to tell him to stop driving to proceed. While the judge was addressing me, I received a phone call from that attorney and **************** that a deal was struck a deal between him and the attorney representing the state. I never told anyone that I was looking for a deal. I told them both that the judge was addressing me and I couldn't speak to them and listen at the same time, and the attorney was insistent that I accept the deal, stating that I wouldn't have points removed, etc. The deal was presented and accepted. When I attempted to speak, the attorney told me not to talk.This is a violation of the code of professionalism of attorneys. "Deals" should not be presented in the way they were. I should have had the opportunity to be represented by an attorney I retained without having my phone calls dodged, without having to obtain my own evidence, without an attorney who was not present because they were driving, or to be told that an agreement was made on my behalf without having the ability to weigh out the details fully and without time.
