They are used to promulgate the lottery scam.The prize notification usually comes by mail.The letter has a business name, address and phone number on it to call to get instructions on claiming the winnings. When one calls the number, the sales rep will ask for a claim number and will advise to deposit the enclosed check into the checking account and call him/her back when done to obtain account number to draw out monies from check to cover taxes due from winnings. The company name on letter is Global Inc., 36 Scutti Road, Branchburg, NJ 07851. The zip code is incorrect for Branchburg in NJ. The area code in 1-289-892-5907 belongs to Ontario, Canada. Please note that when you deposit the money into your account and then forward some through Western Union or Money Gram to the designated party, the check will bounce and you will be responsible to pay it back to the bank what the schemers received. The BBB suggests that you contact the Canadian AntiFraud Centre, f/k/a Phonebusters, at 888 495-8501, www.antifraudcentre.ca , or www.phonebusters.com . Since the letter arrives by mail, you may want to contact Postal Inspector , Mail Fraud Unit at 877 876-2455.
