My wife and I hired Leone, McDonnell, and Roberts to file an amended tax return for the 2020 year. The amendment was filed in Aug. 2021 and showed a roughly $4K refund due to us. However, the IRS has never responded to the amended return and I have been working for more than a year to resolve it. I finally got through to someone who explained there seemed to be a lack of verification for the refund. So I reached back out to the partner at LMR this May (2023) to get more information that would help resolve it. When he did not respond, after about two weeks I wrote to a managing partner on May 30 expressing my frustration. I specifically mentioned that I had been charged extra on a previous follow up and did not want to do anything that would cause additional fee. The managing partner wrote back that same day apologizing for the problems I had experienced, both with the IRS and with LMR. He said he would look into it, and sure enough, the next morning, an email from the firm came in with the information I needed.

I thanked him, and thought that was the end of it. Then, on June 13, I got a bill for $64. I wrote immediately hoping it was in error. He did not respond. I thought, well, hopefully he took care of it anyway. And then in July, about a month later, I got another bill, including a finance charge. Again I wrote to the managing partner and pointed out my original email to him said I did not want to do anything that would cause me to be billed. I also noted that no one at LMR had contacted me saying there would be a fee and asking if I wanted to proceed. They just sent the information and then billed me.

Once again, I got absolutely no response to my email. So all my attempts to resolve this have simply been ignored. Now I have a third bill and have decided to file this complaint. It seems to be completely unethical to bill me in this situation--especially when I said I did not want to incur any charges and they apologized and sent me the information.

The $64 bill in question was for time devoted to respond to the IRS issues the client was experiencing.  We have written off that amount to put this matter to rest.
