Adventure Ready Brands sells three repellent products based on Lemon Eucalyptus oil:Natrapel Lemon Eucalyptus Tick Repellent Eco-Spray 6 oz Natrapel Lemon Eucalyptus ************* Repellent Eco-Spray 6 oz Natrapel Lemon Eucalyptus ************* Repellent 3.4 oz pump spray The stated ingredients in all three products are:Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus* 30%Other ingredients 70%Total 100%* Approx. 65% p-menthane-3,8-diol.This implies that Lemon Eucalyptus (Corymbia citriodora) essential oil naturally contains about 65% p-menthane-3,8-diol (PMD). However, the oil typically contains only about 1.5% PMD, and therefore the label is misleading. I have attached two papers showing 0.59% and 2.76% PMD (also known as 8-hydroxymenthol) and two papers showing no PMD. This is to show typical PMD amounts in natural lemon eucalyptus oil.It is most likely that the oil used in the product has been modified using the process described in the attached ******* paper. This process converts the major constituent, citronellal, into PMD.Consumers are led to believe that the product contains a natural essential oil, when in fact it contains a radically modified oil, which is no longer natural, and no longer an essential oil. Therefore, the stated ingredient Oil of lemon eucalyptus is incorrect.These products should be re-labelled to make it clear that the essential oil has been chemically modified to increase the amount of PMD from about 1.5% to about 65%.
