I had my vehicle a little over a month. My mother had just passed away & she had a piggy bank. This bank she had been filling for about 2 yrs since released from the nursing home. I had placed the bank in the backseat of my car because I was going to give the money to my moms husband and keep the bank for a keepsake for my mother's grandchildren. Well, long story short...these crooks stole my car keys and my mothers piggybank. **** insulted and lied until his face turned blue. I had gotten the police involved & they agreed that the money was gone & Paul Gerber had some crooks. The cop was concerned about my safety & said that the guy **** was extremely petty & gave me some advice. The cop also told me to file this complaint with the BBB. I have a police report & this will be further looked into.Business Response

I purchased a vehicle in August 2023 from Gerber Auto Sales. Recently, I began having problems with my vehicle and a mechanic uncovered that someone had taken apart the dash and covered the check engine light with electrical tape. My mechanic acknowledged that this has likely been there the entire time and the light was just not seen due to the tape. I am now out a $6000 vehicle due to a preventable issue.Business Response

As we are very concerned about this issue. *** ****** purchased this vehicle 08/08/2023. At the time of the purchase *** ****** stated that her personal mechanic inspected the vehicle and said that there was no issues at the time of the purchase. We have had no further contact with *** ****** since the purchase of the vehicle until 03/07/2024. On 03/07/2024 *** ****** contacted us stating that she was having mechanical issues with her vehicle, she then stated that she has taken her vehicle to a mechanic to get the said issues looked at. During the recent inspection of her vehicle by her choice of mechanic she stated that there was some sort of tape over the check engine light which is very impossible as we do not take dashes and cluster apart. The vehicle was sold as is with all proper documentation and she was aware of this at the time of the purchase of the vehicle. It has now been 7 months since her first inspection when the vehicle was purchased and we are now just hearing about a issue with the vehicle. To finish the response to this complaint we would like to advise that *** ******* first inspection by her mechanic of choice stated that there was no issues or signs of any tampering of any kind when she first purchased. Please reach out to us if there is any other information needed to close this matter. Thank you.Customer Answer

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:Requesting copy of initial vehicle inspection report done by the dealer, as this issue should have been caught by the dealership and would have prevented me from purchasing the vehicle. If the check engine light was covered, the engine light could have potentially been on (as suggested by my current mechanic at Auto-Tech) and would have not passed inspection in order to be sold - See national consumer laws, clause 15.7 regarding defect revocation. My car was not formally inspected by a mechanic at a shop after purchase, however looked over by a friend (as stated in our conversation) after purchase. I trusted that because it is a legal requirement of the state to pass inspection before selling, regardless of 'as-is' status, it would be done properly.
Sincerely,

We are so sorry that you are not satisfied with our response. I am glad that you are concerned about the inspection report. After sitting with the sales person and going over this ongoing issue with this matter. He stated that no one ever asked him for a inspection report. If this had been asked we would have provided the inspection report as asked. The issue we are having here is that you did purchase the vehicle as is, You did have some one look the vehicle over. The biggest issue is that you purchased the vehicle in August 2023 and you are now reaching out. Between Then and now anything could have happened. If the vehicle had tape on the check engine light covering it we would have seen it. After doing the research. You have to go to extreme measures to do so. That would mean takin a mechanic off a car he is doing service on and taking the whole dash apart and in that case would have to pay the mechanic to do said job. That cost us down time on servicing the vehicles we have in the shop. We are not in the business to do those things top vehicles. The vehicle you purchased you got a very good deal on and was a great running vehicle after it had gone through the shop. I do apologize that you are not satisfied with our former response. But we do take these issues very serious and all legal and ethical practices as the owner of Paul Gerber Auto Sales Inc was on the dealer board for many many years. Please give us a call if there is anything that we can do to help make this situation better.
Thank you

Friday March 1st I went to Paul Gerber needing a vehicle roughly 5:15 pm. The salesman **** which I found on ******** on market place asked me to come that he can help me out getting into a reliable vehicle. **** and Paul himself pointed me strait to a Ford F-150 XLT Looked decent so I agreed on a test drive. For some weird reason before we go on this drive they call **** away and now the sales manager is riding with us. I was given instructions on where to drive and it was just a quick couple blocks then he asked to do the same route again.( Just to make sure there are no issues he said) It drove nice during the test drive. But as soon as I left not 3 miles down 72nd st. Battery light came on the dash as well as the engine light. From there on the truck struggles and dies at idle. I immediately text **** and told him the situation and he promised me they will make it right with me . I have it in writing ( he deleted his end of the conversation and I can't get a hold of him through text now. Picture attached. I called the next day like the text says to and then he tells me to call Monday because no mechanics are working today . Ok . I called. Today and he acts like he don't know what I'm talking about and backed out of his promise to make it right . I have yet to get a call from a mechanic or a manager. Now I'm stuck with a truck that barely runs and lost a 1000 dollars . Issue with the truck does not happen until the temperature of the oil reaches 190 degrees. Will require extensive motor work to repair. Codes were reset before test drive and I was made sure I didn't get the truck warmed up to show the issues . No one will talk to me there and I'm being passed around with no help. I feel robbed . Hard working people getting taken advantage of by business like this should be illegal. I have to get a ride to work after I spent my money on a truck. Yes the car drives fine until it's warmed up then it's a lost cause . He made a promise in writing.Business Response

As we are very concerned with this issue, we would like to respond to the complaint. Mr. ******* came into Paul Gerber 03/01/2024 to purchase a vehicle from said sakes person. Mr. ******* was interested in a few trucks but then decided that he was more interested in said vehicle that he purchased. On the test drive that the manager took Mr. ******* on he made sure to drive the route a second time to make sure that nothing was wrong with said vehicle. The sales manager takes the same route every time for safety reasons so if anything does happen some one from the dealer knows where everyone is at. After the test drive Mr. ******* said that he wanted to purchase the vehicle and if anything was wrong that he would fix it because he is a mechanic. Once agreed on terms of the purchase Mr. ******* did sign as-is and that nothing else was promised or owed at the time of the purchase. For the contacting issues Mr. ******* did call one time to the dealership at noon and left a message our service department did try to contact Mr. ******* after the we received the message but was not able to get in touch with him. We do apologize for any misunderstandings and have taken extra steps into this complaint. Please contact us if there is anything else we can do to assist this complaint. Thank you.Initial Complaint

To whom it may concern, ****** ********* notified Paul Gerber Auto that her 2008 Ford Escape had been damaged, and that she had filed a claim with ********** Insurance, once the adjuster from ********** Insurance appraised her vehicle, it was determined her vehicle was a total loss. ********** made ****** two offers 1) the $4,936.28 and they were to keep the vehicle 2) $4,014.16 and she would retain the vehicle in its current damaged state. At the time the vehicle was damaged ***** had a balance owed to Paul Gerber Auto of $6,061.25. It was explained to ***** if she accepted Option 1 she would still owe Paul Gerber Auto $1,124.97.
***** stated she needed another vehicle she was given several choices, and she selected a 2008 Lincoln *** and requested we hold the vehicle until the insurance settlement was received, she advised Paul Gerber Auto she would not have any money available for a down payment which we agreed to. ***** was advised to retain the salvage vehicle and take Option 2 as Paul Gerber Auto could use the drive train parts which has more value to the dealership. We would have given her credit for the $922.12 for the drive train and would have added $577.88 in trade-in value for a total of $1,500 and ****** would have only owed a -$547.09 on her loan.
***** stated she is out $7,700 for a vehicle and that is impossible as she had a remaining balance of $6,061.25. ***** came into Paul Gerber Auto and returned the wrecked vehicle to our office. ****** informed Paul Gerber Auto she had decided to cancel her claim with ********** Insurance. ***** voluntarily returned the vehicle in its wrecked condition and left our office, and to date we have not had any further form of contact with *****, as far as our office is concerned this matter is closed. We will be pursuing ****** for the unpaid balance of $1,124,97.
If you have any further questions, please contact Paul Gerber

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:This is a total lie. I was never offered several options or any credit for my vehicle .The one and only offer for a replacement vehicle was 08 Lincoln *** .That Gerber Auto Sales had just bought. Mr. **** ****** himself told me the car had 275,000 miles ,for the sale price of 4,000.00 dollars. No credit or assistants for discussion on this matter had not happened as dealership states . Gerbers did not even make me aware a buy back was done with insurance and it sure wasn't done on my behalf. ********** is whom discussed that buy back was done by Paul Gerber Auto Sales. I did take the car back because the information I received that insurance is taking possession due to being totaled . I did say I was canceling claim because as an advisement of Gerber Auto Sales person whom is ***** told me to keep my claim open with my personal insurance to see whom makes best offer.. I have been on time even early on payments and carried required insurance for the said vehicle. and no reason for me being in default , Once again I have tried to make contact and no return calls again. The dollar amount the business stated is untrue also. i received a certified letter on the 22 of February 2024 stating my vehicle is going to be sold at auction on 25th of February with me owing a balance of 2047.09. see enclosed documentation and ********** insurance statements. I am also seeking assistance from ******** Attorneys Generals consumer protection Office on this matter because as a faithful and honest consumer I have been deceived and lied to by this company.
Sincerely,
****** *********Business Response

I was having issues with my car overheating. This was a car that I purchased from Paul Gerber autos and I am still currently financing. I called the mechanic there and let him know that I was having an issue with my car overheating. He told me that I could drop my vehicle off there and they would take a look at it. Once I drop my vehicle off there he told me that they would be able to look at my car by 2 PM. I called around 1:57 PM to see the status of my vehicle. The mechanic named Dennis told me that they were just now able to look at my vehicle. Later that day, he told me that I needed to sign some paperwork before they could begin work on my vehicle. However, he did tell me that the issue with my vehicle was that the radiator had blown out and stated that I needed another one. I asked him was he sure that was the issue because I was also told there was a leak as well. He assured me that was the only issue he could find and told me that with parts and labor I would have a total of $*** not including antifreeze or taxes. The next day, noon, I came in to fill out the paperwork so that my car could be looked at. I asked for Dennis and they told me he was at lunch. When I called Dennis back he told me that my car would be ready by at least 3:30 PM. I called around that time and asked him was my vehicle ready he told me no. He then told me that my vehicle should be ready by 5 PM. I called at 5:03 PM asking was my vehicle ready. He told me that they had completed putting the radiator in there but the car was still overheating. I asked him would they be able to complete the work today he chuckled and said no. He then told me they needed to do a complete diagnostic on the vehicle and said that it could be the water pump. I asked him why didn't he do a complete diagnostic on my vehicle before putting a radiator in there. And then he told me that he would let me know when my vehicle was ready or what they found out. They kept my car all weekend without letting me know.Business Response

She had her car towed in without notice. Fit her in our schedule as a courtesy. She wasn't present with the car. We required her to come in and sign for permission to work on the car which she did following day. The car was overheating. The radiator needed to be replaced. Informed her that we needed to test the rest of the coolant system which wasn't possible until the radiator was replaced due to a hole. Received permission from the customer to replace the radiator and the work was performed. Continued to inspect the coolant system and found that the car was still overheating. Diagnosed that the water pump was required to be replaced as well after testing. Informed customer of the additional repairs needed via voicemail. The customer has not responded to our voicemail or several other phone calls. We have not yet replaced the water pump because we have not made contact with the customer for permission to replace the water pump. We are currently in limbo with the car because customer hasn't contacted us and we will not perform any repairs without customer consent.
