We hired ****** to remove a ~80-foot American Sycamore tree in our backyard. We paid him $1,750 upfront toward a $3,500 total job — and he never completed the work.
From the beginning, communication was spotty and inconsistent. He would disappear for days without notice, offer vague excuses like car trouble, health issues, a lost phone, problems with employees — you name it. Either this man is the unluckiest person alive, or he was feeding us a stream of half-truths and outright lies.
He consistently showed up late (when he showed up at all), and when we pressed him for a timeline, he said the job would take 2–3 days. Four days later, he said it might be a couple more weeks. He repeatedly told us “We’ll be there!” — but more often than not, “we” meant just him, working alone in the evenings for a couple of hours. At least once, he told us he’d be “right back” — and never returned.
When we finally reached our limit after nearly a month of delays, we told him we were hiring someone else to finish the job. The new tree company told us ****** had barely done any actual removal work — and worse, the ropes he left in the tree weren’t just the wrong tools for the job, they made the job more dangerous and difficult for them.
We asked ****** for proof that he was bonded and insured — a reasonable request for such dangerous work. Instead of answering, he bailed. He told us it “seemed like a good idea to part ways.” That was the moment we realized we couldn’t trust him at all.
Look, he seemed like a decent guy when chatting in person. But a nice attitude doesn’t mean much if the job never gets done, the equipment used is unsafe, and the person you paid upfront disappears with your money.
We cannot in good conscience recommend ****** ****** for any arborist or tree removal work. He was unreliable, unprofessional, possibly uninsured, and based on what other professionals told us — dangerously underqualified.
