1 starPhysicians Mutual was misrepresented to me, and I decided/ was excited to purchase the policy. I waited the full year to qualify for the higher coverage for the work I needed to have done. I was also told that there was no limit on the
work that needed to be done--Again MISREPRESENTED. I consider their misrepresentation to be fraudulent. I requested the monthly payments I have
dutifully been making...and have not had any coverage.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

1 starWe had Physicians Mutual for a few years. Coverage was decent.
Our new insurance covers dental, so we gave two months notice before the end of the year.
They still debited two more times for about, $184.00.
After calling them, and admitting we gave proper notice, and they made the error, they refuse to credit our account.
Horrible, awful and disgusting behavior.
PLEASE! DO NOT USE THEM.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

Our policyowners can call our customer service team and request that their policies be removed from automatic payments, which prevents future withdrawals. To cancel, we require a signed note. 1 starI've had dental insurance through these crooks for almost 10 years, and each time I attempt to use it, I am told they underpaid what they said they would or weren't communicating with my dentist. I was sold their fraudulent insurance with the assurance I could use it "anywhere", and when 4 dental offices either had issues getting payment from them or couldn't get anything, I finally went to their network list and found a good office nearby. After my first several visits, even this office told me there were multiple issues with this company getting back to them, paying the claims, etc.
I have paid nearly 4 grand in monthly payments to these criminals, and more than that to the offices they've been shorting. Whenever I try to cancel my policy, they tell me I need to "fax" a confirmation of cancellation. I don't own a fax machine, who does anymore?
I haven't used anywhere near the amount I paid into them despite my best efforts, and I've been denied emergency dental care so many times due to this company. I have a mind to sue for the years of dental pain I've had to endure because of your inability to keep good rapport with your clients and your network!Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

For over 120 years, Physicians Mutual has focused on taking great care of customers, earning us a 95% Customer Satisfaction Rating. We are sorry to hear we have not met your expectations. To address your specific claim concerns, we will need to work with you directly for privacy reasons; however, an explanation of general insurance operations may help address a few of your questions.
Our dental policies do not restrict customers to a network. Instead, we highly recommend considering and using network providers, as customers realize an average savings of 36% in the billed amount when doing so. This limits your out of pocket expenses. However, Physicians Mutual pays up to the amount shown in the schedule of benefits whether you choose a network provider or not. Many providers will file claims for you, though you can also file claims directly with us.
To protect customers from unintended loss of coverage, we do ask for a signed cancellation request. However, we will gladly stop any automated premium withdrawals with a simple telephone call or notification. If you choose, the policy can be allowed to lapse with no other action needed.
If you feel we have made a mistake on the processing of a claim or have other questions, please call us.Review fromBrenda K

1 starPhysicians Mutual is scamming elderly into paying more into a policy than it is even worth. My mother has paid close to $15,000 for a policy with a face value of $10,000. How is this even legal? I spoke with two customer service representatives and they could not even articulate why this was legitimate. What a horrible scam.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

Although we are not able to share individual details in this response for privacy reasons, we are able to answer general life insurance questions. Life insurance premium rates are based on a host of factors, including: the policy face amount, age of applicant, whether the policy is guaranteed without answering health questions vs. underwritten, term life vs. whole life, participating vs. non-participating, as well as other considerations and product features. Policies can have a paid up feature; however, many policies require premiums during the time the coverage is in force. Some policies build cash value and may even have non-forfeiture options for those unable to afford the premium any longer or who have changing insurance needs.
Please have someone who is party to the contract give us a call so we may look up the policy details and explain the options available for the policy(s) you are referring to.Review fromBrenda H

1 starThey don't listen and lie about the response to your request, one will tell you it has been done and mailed and the next one will tell you they will submit your request that is has not been submitted. One will tell you that you can see documents requested in Your Documents, the next will tell you that you cannot see these in Your Documents. I started November 14 with my request and I have called repeatedly and have not yet gotten anything except bill. I told them I would not pay anything more until I got what I requested, but instead I get a letter stating per my request they have changed my billing from automated to paper bill sent to me, I did no such thing. In previous years I have requested a statement of the premiums I have paid for the 12 months of the year and have received but this years has been totally exhausting, no one should have to fight so hare and be lied to time and time again. I have not yet gotten the same story, one contradicts the other, I wish someone would listen to me to provide the information I have requested. The last person I spoke with said someone would call me but I am doubtful this will happen.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

1 starOn March 16 of 2023 I received a call from Physican's Mutual soliciting my business to switch our Pet Insurance. I have had a policy for our 12 year old dog for over a decade and the premiums had been creeping up. The coverage seemed very similar and the premiums were more affordable. I SPECIFICALLY asked about any lapse in coverage and how long I should maintain our current coverage to avoid any gaps should something happen. I was assured that all would be well if I maintained our current policy for 2 days while everything processed. No mention was made of a SIX MONTH waiting period for orthopedic services. I would NEVER have made the switch considering the age our our dog.
In May 2023 our dog suffered a significant back injury and the costs were quite high, but I was not concerned because we had coverage. EVERY SINGLE CLAIM was denied due to the waiting period. I realize I have no recourse because I am sure this is in the fine print. However, when I asked a very specific and direct question and was given specific and direct assurances in response I believe this company is unethical and does not operate in good faith. I feel this is a classic bait and switch - telling the customer whatever it takes to get the sale. Buyer beware and I was too trusting. When I called with my concerns and bewilderment - I was told there was no way to verify my conversation with their sales person and I could be making the whole thing up - essentially calling me a liar. Not a business I recommend to anyone for anything. Again, buyer beware.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

We’re sorry to hear your pet was injured, and we hope he is recovering. Physicians Mutual understands the importance of transparency and provides customers a 31-day period to review coverage and cancel with a full premium refund if the plan is not the right fit. Upon policy issue, we immediately send a policy with a schedule of benefits. This schedule of benefits displays your policy number, policy effective date, pet’s name, pet’s age, etc. The schedule distinctly shows the coverage options selected and provides in a summary format the exact date of eligibility for Injury, Illness and Orthopedic benefits. Also, our policy provides an option for an orthopedic waiver to waive the waiting period, as described in the policy and during the sales process. Please give us a call if you would like to review any of this information or have other questions.Review fromCarol P

1 starI was the biggest cheerleader for Physicians Mutual. I had Medicare supplemental, vision and dental. They were wonderful. The people were wonderful. But something changed over recent years. For the last 2 years, all I've had are problems with their claims department regarding dental and vision. My claim checks always come promptly but the amount is always wrong. I have a rollover policy but they treat me as if I just signed up, which affects the reimbursement amount. I also call them in advance to verify the amount and let them know a claim is coming. Total waste of time. Now I have to wait for someone to call me back within 48 hours. If I'm not by phone, too bad. More phone tag. You used to be fantastic. What happened?Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

5 starsI have been with Physicians' Mutual Insurance Company for the last ten years. All of my experiences with them have been positive. I personally feel they are the best supplemental insurance company out there, and I highly recommend them, not only because they are fair, but also because they take care of their clients.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

1 starWish I would have read the reviews before purchasing at retirement. Agent, no surprise, was extremely convincing and when discussing the "high deductible plan" vs "no deductible with higher monthly premium the math worked out the same. What he failed to tell me was the excessive increases I would face with Physician's Mutual. Over the last five years I've gone from $**** annual deductible to $**** and monthly premium from $** to $**. Also purchased an annuity HSA. That's disappearing at an alarming rate. I would run from this company. Thankfully I never signed up with the Dental Insurance. My dentist will not accept them and their premiums are, as health plans, excessive and pay little. Check with Delta coverage on Dental. And it does not matter what you say....they always come back with "120 year history" and they will always be in the clear justifying every calculated move. There was VERY little transparency when signing up for this policy.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

We are sorry to hear you are not pleased with your plan. The $***** deductible you are referring to is set by Medicare and became effective 01/01/2023 for the calendar year. That deductible applies to all High Deductible Plan F, G and J policies, regardless of the insurer. To learn more about how Medicare calculates that deductible, please visit them at www.CMS.gov. Regarding rate increases, we review our overall claim costs to determine if a rate increase is necessary due to the rising cost of health care and the annual changes in Medicare’s deductibles and co-payment amounts – no person is singled out.
We have great news to share with you regarding our dental plans. Although you have the option to use one of the many providers in the network, which has equated to over $***,000,000 in savings for our customers, you are not restricted to the network. So, if a dentist will not file the claim for you, customers can simply submit the claim to us so we can pay benefits directly to them. To learn more, please visit us online or give us a call.Review fromJanet G

1 starI have never received my contract nor my dental insurance cards. I have requested these three times but still have not received them. Each time my mailing address was verified and it was correct. There is no reason why this wouldn't have reached me. They said to check with my post office. Done. They have nothing. I can see where maybe one time could happen but three times, no of course not. The last time I called I had an extended phone conversation with your representative. She said that definitely they will resend immediately. Never happened. Never received. This has to be something wrong on your end not mine because you have the right address. Someone is not doing their job. I need a contract to look at not just your initial advertisement that in fact I am still receiving from you so if that is coming why not my contract and cards.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company
