The Southern Mover estimator came to our home to physically review what was to be moved. They provided a low , medium and high quote. Based on the visit and the quote we decided not to pursue other quotes. The day of the move they were late and about 4:30 they determined they would need another truck. After several calls a truck was scheduled for the next morning . The day of the move in they were late and when we called they advised that one of the 3 trucks and broken down , when we made follow - *** calls for *** we were advised that 2 of the 3 trucks had broken down. Finally trucks arrived and after about 60% of trucks were unloaded got a call from the owner advising us that - the actual weight was 70% more that their high estimate and 83% over the high cost estimate. The only way we would get truck unloaded was to agree to the increase and pay it immediately ( we had already given them a certified check for the medium quote as agreed to ) . Than he did offer a discount .The next day I looked closer at the bill and realized not only was the weight off by 70% they increase the per pound cost . In their quote as pounds went up , per pound cost went down - so the " discount" was factored into the price. I followed up with ownership with specific questions and they advised he would review and call me , no call, I followed up - was told the owner would call the next day to review . The next day I got an e mail explaining that although they had professional estimators - it is only an estimate . Not sure if it is total incompetence related to estimating or simply a random price provided to get the business . Once they get your furniture on the truck you are pretty much hostage to their terms - at least with these folks. Unless you don't care about cost , communications and good faith I would avoid.

The representative we worked with was professional and viewed our home contents room by room and gave a quote for a one day move from **********, ** to ********, ** for $3216.50. When moving day came the team lead walked the house and came back out and said no way was this a one day move! We were stuck so had to proceed to move to the new home. The move ended up being $4329. or a 34% increase over the estimate. I know an estimate is just that but I've never had a business increase their quote that much before. I believe the quote was low to get the business plus their team was not efficient with the use of boxes. They boxed my printer in one of their boxes then put that box inside another one of their boxes. I had a case of paper in a box that was torn but instead of taping the box, they reboxed it in one of their boxes. I had items that were overprotected using large quantities of their packing paper. The use of boxes was excessive as well. I wouldn't use them again and recommend seeking a company with a better history of customer reviews.

We had a FANTASTIC experience with Southern Moving. Initially, we were very concerned about choosing a mover because almost all of the reviews for interstate movers we saw included various bait and switch tactics, additional charges, damaged furniture, and the like. Since we had a lot of valuable items that we needed to move more than 500 miles, we interviewed six or seven companies. Southern came to us through an Ideal Living show in ************* and, after discussing the move with **** *** a couple of times (who was great), we felt comfortable with their concern and professionalism and felt that they would at least do their best with our belongings. They exceeded our expectations in several ways: first, since we had so many items, they showed up with three moving trucks rather than the agreed-to two. They did this on their dime, JUST IN CASE a third truck would be necessary. This sounds simple, but they had to drive from **********, ** to ******* VA easily a six-hour drive to do this. They said they would have three movers and showed up with four again, at their initiative and their expense. The four movers were great very experienced, hardworking, careful, and easy to work with. ** and **** were exceptional crew managers (one recommendation is to ask specifically for this crew, which included **** and Niye). At no point did they ever cut corners on wrapping and loading items and were very flexible in working with us. They took the time the job needed and worked very long days on both ends (same four-man crew on each side). The owner, ***** *******, was also very easy to work with and very flexible. Overall, we have nothing but praise for Southern, *****, **** **** KD, ***** **** and Niye.

The owner finally called me after a month. Thefurniture assessment company now cant get to our home until Sept. 9th. Our beautiful $3000 sofa, $1800 leather recliner and $400 hall tree were all significantly damaged and instead of replacing or reimbursing us, theyre pushing to repair it. They have lost a step-ladder and blower that we still have not been reimbursed for or replaced. When the owner spoke with me he dropped the ***** twice during the conversation and noted that good help was hard to find. Only after he saw the reviews did he finally call me. Its obvious, He could care less about the customer and we pad in full over $6500 just to move from 1hr 1/2 away. Very unprofessionalthis man should not be running a local business, sad!
