We stopped here on the way to and back from Myrtle as a halfway point rest. We registered, picked our site, and paid for both nights months ahead of time. When we arrived, we were handed four pages of rules. I don’t mind rules. They keep everything organized. However, these people have a thing about dogs apparently. We were glad we didn’t bring ours with us. If you have a large dog, make sure their breed is not on the list. It’s a long list. If you have a big rig, be warned that there are many tight spaces. People park in the already narrow roadways making it very difficult to get through. There is a gate at the entrance that is tight as well. Shower house was clean. Pool was clean. Site was level. Everything went as planned the first visit. Now to the return trip. After fighting through MB traffic, we were really looking forward to getting hooked up, having dinner and relaxing. When my husband checked in, he was told they gave our site away to someone else because they had some sort of issue. Never in my 20 years of camping had any campground gave my site away. I mean it was even prepaid months ago! They gave us another site. Said it was cheaper, so said sorry and gave my husband a $5 bill and sent us on our way. We have a 38 foot travel trailer with 2 ACs and 50 amp hookup. We paid for a nice lot with grass, full hook up, 50 amp electric, right across from the bath house. What they gave us was a 30 amp electric and water only. All gravel. They did let us borrow an electric converter so we could at least run one AC. However, it’s NC. It’s humid and was a miserable night in the master bedroom where we could not run our AC. We got up, packed up, and headed on our way. Again, they stuck us in such a tight area, we felt rushed to get hooked up and out of the way because of the narrow road and blocking the path for anyone to get through while doing so. In the rush, my husband forgot to use the restroom on the way out. He asked in the office if they had one and the lady said nastily, you should have thought about that before you left. So, a warning to you. These people don’t care about customer service. At least they didn’t care about us. We plan on making this trip a few times a year, but will NEVER come back here. I would sleep in a Walmart parking lot first.

We will address each of the issues brought up above. First, in our experience with customers, there are some that bring multiple vehicles including the camper/truck combo. We have designated overflow parking for these vehicles, however, it is a challenge to get everyone to park in the designated areas. All campgrounds have pet policies and our pet policies are for the safety and enjoyment of all campers. Most of the campers who come here like that we have the policies in place, it is what makes it a nice campground for everyone. I do not know of a campground that does not have rules, and especially dog policies. In fact, it is required by our insurance company. Now, on occasion, it is necessary to change sites to accommodate all campers, especially this year with an overwhelming response to people wanting to camp due to the pandemic. It is common for campgrounds, like hotels, to change a booking/campsite. If you have been camping for 20 years, this is not new news. A few weeks ago, a camper mixed up his check-out date and was in a campsite when the next camper was ready to check-in. In addition, his truck was parked in an adjacent site and he was not here, so he was blocking 2 campsites. This created a huge problem. As campers started to check-in, I had to reassign everyone a different campsite. The late check-out camper finally arrived and left, but only after 90% of the campers checked in for the weekend. Not one person complained about being moved to another site. We did not "give away" your campsite. Our online booking software allowed a "double-booking" due to a software bug which affected a number of campsites. In an effort to accommodate several campers, we had to switch around a few campsites. Our "terms & conditions" that you must check as read and agreed to as you are completing payment online clearly states that we reserve the right to change your campsite, should it be necessary. I called ***** and got his voice mail, so I left a message prior to the camper coming in. Since their stay was only for 1 night, I did move them to a site with no sewer, 30 amp & water and this was explained at check-in and no complaint was made at that time. All of our RV campsites are gravel bed, not grass. Only primitive tent campsites are grass. I told ***** the site I was moving him to and he said they don't need to run both AC units, one AC was OK for 1 night. I offered him the use of our adaptor for the 30amp site. As far as feeling rushed, no one rushed them or made them feel any particular way as far as leaving and getting safely out of the campground. We have three roads in the campground which all loop and go in both directions. There would not be a circumstance where someone could not get out of the campground if a camper was pulling out and blocking one way. Also, in my experience, most campers are very helpful and patient when it comes to loading up and getting ready to haul out. Now for the final topic, if you were anxious and forgot to go to the bathroom, that is out of our control. Your camper would be available to go to. However, when my wife was asked if there was a bathroom available, the FIRST thing that she said was "NO, I AM SORRY". Anne is very empathetic, but she also has a quick wit about her and upon seeing a grimace, thought ***** was being humorous and said something in reply thinking that it would ease the fact that there was not a bathroom available in the office. It was not said "nastily", but lightheartedly, and she did not ever expect that someone would take it as a "Nasty reply" and certainly did not say "You should have thought about that before you left the campground!" We can now understand how the old "telephone game" starts with one thing and ends up being an entirely different thing. We certainly DO care about our campers and try to help them out as much as we can and Anne especially always feels badly when she cannot help someone out. It is hard to please everybody but we do try our very hardest to do so. Finally, as far as being an unapologetic rant, this is not that. We are sorry that you feel so inclined to leave one star but we also feel it is right to have both sides of the story told so that potential customers can understand both sides. Somebody doesn't always have to be right, just have differing viewpoints.
