Overall a 5!? When I first moved in I thought it was good but now I've been here a year and a half and all units or 40 years old! I've asked for upgrades. None received. The rent went up 5% they say they can do and added a insurance mitigation fee also which is a new requirement. The pool was shut down during Covid reopen this year and it's filthy. I have asked Via email and voice messages for them to clean up the shower area the bathroom area in the pool area. No reply. The tennis court is another amenity that they advertise which has not been used since I have been here apparently they are waiting for the vendor and we are next on the list for repair as I heard for the last eight months. The pool is small in the tennis court would be nice if it was repaired. I believe I am paying for things here that I cannot use. Which is false advertising. I moved here for pool and the tennis court it was such a nice bonus. The management has changed and although they are attempting to be managers I am not sure why there is no follow up. I was charged a late fee before the old manager left my rent was late by a half a day I asked for them to waive it and they said no. The corporate office in the local office work hand-in-hand. Maintenance can only do what they can with 40 year old units. My vinyl is original. The cabinets are put together and poorly constructed and repaired! I ask for paint so I can keep it updated and they give me paint to refresh. The landscaping crew leaves a lot to be desired. They do not clear brush or fallen limbs from the back of the units and the root system is quite hazardous in some areas. I have asked for a upgraded toilet due to my back issues and they said no. This one sits approximately 18 inches off the floor .. Simple upgrades can be achieved without great cost and without residents begging for updates. And if a unit is updated the rent will go up!Tanglewood Apartments Response

Hello, Thank you for your review. Reviews are appreciated, as they give us an opportunity to grow and to be an even better community to call home. We are also thankful to give another perspective and feedback.
Our team has put together numerous events in 2020 because of the amenities not being open, such as trick or treating, Valentine's gifts, and breakfast on the go's. We wanted to bring unity in a time when we were asked to be separate. Our pool was open last year from July to September, we had to have a pool attendant per the Governor's Covid-19 orders. The tennis courts have been pushed back per the contractor due to Covid-19 and will begin 6/20 to be repaired. The fitness center has been open by appointment since the beginning of 2021 and opened fully 6/1. We are thrilled to have a very walkable community with sidewalks and walking trails adjacent to the community. As our landscaping is mature, we do encourage residents to stay on the sidewalks as we are not able to control tree roots in the grassy areas around the trees. To help make our landscaping thrive, we have added a groundsperson to the team and are diligently working with the landscaping crew to express our desired outcome.
Regarding the apartment, the vinyl and carpet were replaced in 2017, and only two years old upon move-in. Appliances have been replaced and these are the same size throughout our community. Touch-up paint is offered to the residents, all we ask if for them to provide a container. As there is no written request for a taller toilet, we have put in an order for this to be installed for the resident.
Our company decided to waive all late fees through December 2020, although we were able to charge beginning August 2020. There were many notices sent out via email, on doors, and posted on ActiveBuilding regarding late fees beginning again January 2021. We value our residents and are proud to have a 60% renewal retention rate, and we do thank you for renewing for a second time. Long term residents bring value to our community, thank you, and we look forward to a great 2021.
Numerous team members have reached out throughout the year to reply to any request or questions that were had, however, unable to get any person on the phone and voicemail is not set up. We would love to have a discussion with you and ask that you give us a call at 910.692.6190 or to email us at ********************************
at your earliest convenience. Thank you and take care.

The fluffy reply did not suffice with my original complaint and is full of false information in my opinion. 1) the timber from the trees that has fallen has not been discarded for months and still is on the back property. The crews blow straw around and trim, yes, and leave all the trimmings under the trees to accumulate. They say the pool was open but with several rules in place, including bringing our own chairs and wearing a mask while in the area. Many items are in the reply to enhance their marketing... not sure why it is all documented on my complaint. I have not witnessed additional groundskeeper, it is the same crew. ******** properties can express all they want to landscapers but again the rating is low. Recent flowers were added to the office for new residents appeal. The appliance have not been replaced. The dishwasher was constantly smelling like rotten water, and they told me to run a hot wash and get product to clean it on a regular basis. The stove works probably old also, the refrigerator is 5'5 " tall, no freezer space - all units are the same, yes; small, very small. I painted myself to touch up when I realize my move in condition was poor. I did ask for an upgraded toilet with the old manager - apparently they cant find that request along with the pet fee waiver that has been on file for a year. They did not inform me they put in an order for a toilet - no email, no voicemail, etc. The reply about the carpet and vinyl 2017 - carpet maybe! Not the vinyl, I would like to see the work order. The cabinets have been repaired by scrap wood and stained to try to match and are disinigrating - I complained about dirt smelling cabinets and they said its normal and clean them. I used lots of vinegar. They filled the holes so the snails would stop coming in from under the dishwasher... The claim that they were unable to reach me is false. I walk by everyday to get my mail... have waited for return calls or an email and recently no communication regarding my concerns. They did however, spruce up and clean the filthy pool area after i sent them pictures (8) to their email and asked for regular diligence for this area for the residents -- after being open for 2 weeks. The late fee was 1/2 day late and not waived - I have never been late.. I will call them again to discuss as I dont want any further frustration going forward. And just to finalize I have been asked by 4 residents lately to start a petition to management in regards to their numerous concerns.. I opted out.
The mandatory mitigation insurance fee every month is BS! Why do we have to pay the corporate umbrella insurance cost for our insurance for siding and roof and windows...? If you are going to raise my rent, give me a benefit t-- my wage did not go up, Mandatory rent raise and added on insurance is not anything they discuss upon initial contract with residence. I hope the new manager will stay longer than the others and produce positive results for all. (P.S. the dog park area is filthy and no one uses the fenced in area - so unhealthy for the dogs)
