On 10/30/2021, I visited Hwy. 55 on Elmsley in Greensboro, NC. I was dining with my significant other and two employees. To begin with when we entered there was large piles of trash bags by the back door and near the bathrooms. In addition to this the men's restroom had a broken door handle that was rusty and able to cut someone. Using the men's restroom was nearly impossible. Next we were seated and ordered our food. We waited a few moments and eventually our food arrived. While the waitress was getting condiments for our table, out of the corner of my eye underneath the ice cream machine is an open drain, and out of that drain a large rat appeared. My party watched this rat proceed to "dog track" slidding and running down the hallway into the large pile of trash bags. I immediately felt sick. I no longer wanted to eat. I searched around the store for a manager, however there was not one clearly visible and all the staff appeared to be very young. My party and I got up paid and left. I wrote the owners an e-mail stating that I would like a refund and to speak with them. After I heard no response, I contacted the Guilford county health dept on 11/01/2021. They filed a complaint and went to inspect the restaurant on 11/02/2021. Upon calling to do a follow up on the complaint. I was told the owners and employees KNEW they had rat infestation before the day we visited. Further the health department informed us that the conmpay did not lose any grade for the restaurant and they were satisfied with the establishment having pest control come out as well as seal any cracks that the rats maybe entering through. However, they are still open and serving customers but have yet to respond to my complaint or even offer a refund at very least. Considering we are in a pandemic and animals are known to carry COVID and many other disease, I do not understand why they are atleast not closed until the pest problem is resolved or offering refunds to the customers.
