On or about two weeks ago our main bathroom vent fan stopped working. I just thought the motor was bad since we have been in the house a little over six years. It turns out that the wiring to the fan was bad and over six years burnt through the casing and started to melt the plastic causing smoke and a potential fire in the wall. We also heard buzzing sounds like a short circuiting sound. We also lost power to all adjoining outlets so nothing is working in the bath and master bedroom. We had to call an emergency electrician that advised us that the wiring was totally bad from the start. We called Sydes and they said referenced some clause, unknown to us, that we had six years to report such a claim. We have children in the house and other similar vent fans in our other bathrooms that are most likely wired the same way. We are living in a potential fire trap. Sydes refuses to address the issue citing this clause or telling us to call the subvendor directly. We bought the house from them with a 10 year structural warranty that should include the wiring. We just want them to come and re-inspect, fix the current situation before some more damage, or worse injury or loss of life results. P.S. We have submitted other complaints to them and, in each instance, claim its not their responsibility...for example, cement in the driveway cracking due to poor cement quality. They are making alot of money off of people like us and they need to be stopped.
