My wife had surgery at this facility. She had met her out of pocket maximum with the insurance company already, so all services were covered at 100%. I'm providing the relevant pages of the *** statement that show they were paid in full for the charge of $822.50 that they are attempting to fraudulently double-collect.They have threatened me with a final notice and collections action.

The patient is correct.  We use an outside billing company to handle all billing, coding and collecting for the surgery center.  I have consulted with our billing company and they are correcting the issue.  Unfortunately, at the surgery center, we were unaware of the issue prior to this notice.  We verify all insurances prior to the procedure and provide an estimate of what the patient will owe.  In our notes, we showed that the patient had met their OOP and would owe $0.  This was a billing company error.  The billing company will be notifying the patient of their error.

I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because:

The surgery and complications following caused my wife great physical pain, as well as mental and emotional distress. As her caregiver, my heart was breaking watching her go through this ordeal.

I don't really believe this was just a billing error, and even so, where is the penalty if it was? A simple apology does not make this all better. I had to fix this by filing a complaint with the BBB. That was time I can't get back and multiple layers of stress I did not want.

An amicable solution would be a financial payout of the amount they were attempting to double-collect. There must be a penalty or they will continue to do this to others who don't notice or who won't fight back.

    Sincerely,
