-Purchased a 2018 Ram 2500 from Boost Auto January 10, 2024 -Was told a loud noise coming from transmission was the dual disc clutch.-Went underneath vehicle 10 days later, (admittedly not immediately, but on Jan 11 there was a death in my family and did not use truck but sparingly in that time).-Find out upon looking at the transmission, the throwout bearing has always been out and that is the cause of the noise.-Called Boost to try and rectify problem and was met with a condescending salesman who levied such comments back to me,"Well I guess you should have had a mechanic look it over prior to purchase""You should have test drove vehicle""We just thought the clutch was noisy""Our mechanics looked it over for safety and emissions and didn't see anything"---Because it's not an immediate safety issue albeit--Also, "our mechanics just don't know anything about diesel trucks""Well ya never know what will happen with used vehicles tomorrow" ---even though this is the exact same issue they sold it with.Business Response

Thank you for the feedback on your recent experience with Boost Auto Sales. We disclosed all issues, that we know, with the truck under descriptions. The customer was aware of the issues disclosed prior of his trip to our dealership. Customer was greeted by our ************************* AL, who explained all about the vehicle to the best of his knowledge, that the clutch does rattle and makes noise when clutch pedal is pressed. AL disclosed to the customer that we driven this truck ourselves over 500 miles before listing it up for sale and suggested to have a second opinion by a mechanic shop nearby before purchase. However, the customer declined that service. The customer drove this truck home which is 3 hrs away. After 2 weeks of ownership the customer had it checked out and claims that it has issues that pertains throw out bearing which is part of the clutch kit. We would have partially helped the customer if we did not disclose that issue, however at this point we decline any repairs since the customer knew the issues prior of his arrival. Out of good deed, we can offer the customer the throw out bearing part.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:
During the purchase of the truck, I was informed about a mechanical issue with the "fifth gear grind". Regrettably, it appears that the information provided was accurate but not altogether forthcoming as the squealing noise we all heard was that of the throwout bearing. I'm fully aware that you know the truth as indicated by your salesmen's tone when I called back about it. Your business is either severely negligent and your mechanics did not look over the vehicle or you are outright being distruthful.Secondly, the throwout bearing DOES NOT stop the transmission from complete function. But without it, the following should be expected:
--If the bearing is worn or damaged, it may produce a grinding, whining, or squeaking noise when you press the pedal. The noise may become more pronounced when the clutch pedal is fully depressed, and it may disappear when you release the pedal.--
If this doesn't sound familiar to what *****, Al, and I heard when *** pulled the truck up then there is no further point in attempting to negotiate this as you are openly lying about the truck.
Furthermore, I am very interested in when I was ever offered the mechanic's second opinion as you stated. Being that I'm not from the area one could assume that I would have been recommended to a local mechanic by one of your fine salesmen. But that never happened.
The worst part about dealing with this dealership has been the way they have treated me after the fact. If they would have told me about the issue beforehand, I still would have bought the truck. I liked the truck. What has angered me is how I was treated after finding out the extent of what was wrong with the transmission.
Lastly, I feel the need to address the 2 week time frame aforementioned. They are telling the truth in mentioning that, however, they are leaving the part out about how my wife had a severe medical issue that required surgery and hospitalization and I was not driving or using the truck during. Your dealership yet again, adds insult to injury and will stoop to any level in order to save money or face.
Honesty and transparency could have prevented this whole situation.
Sincerely,
EthanBusiness Response

The customer was aware of the issue prior to his arrival at our dealership. We have disclosed that the truck had issues with the transmission, and it was listed on our website for everyone to read. When the customer was checking out the truck, the ************************* and the customer both discussed the issues with the truck prior to his purchase. The vehicle was sold AS-IS with not dealer warranty. We have disclosed everything needed in this complaint and offered the customer the part that he claims is wrong. However, the customer rejected the offer. We try to reason with the customer, but he does not understand the key factor, that we disclosed the issue. We tried to call the customer to discuss possible solutions, however he rejected our call.
Our offer is still on the table to purchase the part that you claim is bad. If you wish to proceed, please call our office.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:Your company has again falsely misrepresented what was wrong with the transmission. It was in fact the throw out bearing as I explained.
Your online post referred to a grinding 5th gear which was not the cause of the loud screeching transmission noise.
I will not answer your calls. Why? Because the last time I spoke over the phone with your company I was rudely disrespected as I have mentioned and told the salesmen that I am done trying to handle this dispute over the phone.
Again, your company could have avoided all this at the cost of being honest, transparent, and respectful. The cost to replace the transmission bearing with part included was $483. I will end this dispute at that price.
Sincerely,

I purchased a car from Boost Auto in May of this year. A 2010 Rav4 in supposedly good condition. Over the weekend, the transmission completely blew while I was driving, and I had had no indication prior to this that this was an issue. When towed to a mechanic, I was informed that the transmission on the car looked to have been replaced previously, which I was not informed of when purchasing, and that there the transmission issue should have been spotted before being sold to me. I called Boost Auto to inform them of this issue and ask them to help solve this issue, and was brushed off with shallow promises to “try to find something for me”. Through the conversation I was even given the “I’m sorry, you’re breaking up” excuse several times, which I concede could have been an issue, however each time that occurred was after I had just stated information regarding the problem, followed by their representative immediately downplaying what I had just said. I would absolutely warn people about this seller, as I have also seen that someone else who purchased from them had transmission issues with the car they purchased.Business Response

Customer purchased a used vehicle AS-IS and declined
extended warranty that we offer. We check out all our vehicles to the best of
our ability and perform any repairs needed to pass state safety inspections and
emissions. We cannot predict what will happen to the vehicle after purchase,
that is why we have buyers guide posted on all our vehicles. We had no knowledge
of transmission being replaced in the past. The only form of documentation that
will show any prior service records is ******* We provide free ****** reports
on our website for all our vehicles listed for sale. It is the customer’s
responsibility to maintain and service their vehicle after purchase. At our initial
conversation, we informed the customer over the phone that there isn’t much that
we can do, however we can help source out a different shop that can perform the
repairs using our discount for a lower cost. We tried to reach out to the
customer back before we closed, to let them know about 2 shops and a possible trade-in
option for a different vehicle. In the past, we have helped customers with
partial repairs that occurred within a short period of time. However, this
customer had owned the vehicle for 5 month and drove roughly 8,000 miles, this is long enough to have a shop look at the vehicle and have any preventative maintenance done.
