In November 2024, Better BusinessBureau questioned Home Defense USA's website, https://homedefense-usa.com/ and mailer, which stated:
- “Home Warranty Division”
- “Important Notice”
- “It is important you contact our office at 1-805-618-2617 upon receiving this notice to avoid any unnecessary delays in your coverage before 10-24-2024.”
- “This notice is to inform you that the property’s home warranty at ______ may be expiring or may have already expired.”
- “Our records indicate that you have not contacted us yet to get your Home Warranty up to date.”
- “Please call immediately as this will be our final attempt to notify you about activating your Home Warranty.”
- “Failure to call and prevent a potential lapse in coverage could result in you being liable for all costs associated with home repairs.”
- “However, you still may have time to activate a warranty on your home before it’s too late.”
- “We reserve the right to revoke your eligibility for service coverage after the Expiration Date of 10/24/2024.”
- “Please respond immediately by calling 1-805-618-2617.”
- “Based on your purchase date, you may have a home warranty policy that could expire SOON.”
- “America’s Best Home Warranty”
- “Best Home Warranty Advisors”
- “Award Winning Coverage”
- “Only 41% of homeowners say they could afford a $500 repair out of pocket, and that percentage drops to 28% for those who could afford a $1,000 repair.”

"Warranty"
According to the BBB Code ofAdvertising, “The primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptiveadvertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared tosubstantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication orbroadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly tothe advertising medium or BBB. Advertisements which are untrue, misleading,deceptive, fraudulent, falsely disparaging of competitors, or insincere offersto sell, shall not be used. An advertisement as a whole may be misleading byimplication, although every sentence separately considered may be literallytrue. Misrepresentation may result not only from direct statements, but byomitting or obscuring a material fact. In addition, according to the Missouristate statute 15 CSR 60-7.020 (1): “A seller shall not make a representation orstatement of fact in an advertisement that is false or has the capacity tomislead prospective purchasers.”
TheBetter Business Bureau Code ofAdvertising states, “Superlativestatements in advertisements about the tangible qualities and performancevalues of a product or service are objective claims for which the advertisermust possess substantiation as they can be based upon accepted standards ortests. As statements of fact, such claims, like “#1 in new car sales in thecity,” can be proved or disproved.”
In addition, according toBBB’s Code of Advertising, “Sellers or manufacturers shouldadvertise that a product or service is warranted or guaranteed only if theseller or manufacturer promptly and fully performs its obligations under thewarranty or guarantee.”
BBB requested the businesssubstantiate, modify, or discontinue, the claims made on its website andmailer. The company has responded it would makemodifications, however, no modifications have been made on its website.
